seeing this again ....this is camp.
this is IMO camp.
so yes to me this is a campy movie. maybe i will change my opinion after i see the whole movie again......but i doubt it :o

There were alot of camp moments, I don't think Raimi or anyone else is pretending otherwise, however Raimi was able to outweigh any serious camp with some examples of compelling drama and serious action. That's what makes Spiderman 3 different from Schumachers Batman

i personal hate the idea of amovie having camp moments and serious drama. that just doesnt go together :o

Surely, he's not a punk.. come on, it's just a way to call him...

Until a few months ago I had my hair in a similar manner (more of a fringe), It's not an emo/punk style, I listen to Metal so if thats anything to go by. Parkers a metalhead

The funny thing is that peter is really a big headed idiot inside the body of a geek. That's the true reason his uncle died because he let his fame and power get the best of him.

He's spends his entire life pretending to be worse than he is to protect his loved ones when he could crush anyone that really threatened him in the palm of his hand.

And he deals with this by being spiderman because behind the mask, he can be his true self and he can be cocky and hence that's where all the bravado and wisecracks come from.

An amplified version of this would be very typical of the spidey we saw in the film. Being very attention seeking during the day when there's no stress and when it came down to the nitty gritty becoming very aggressive.

it's probably some of the most accurate character portrayals of spidey i've seen in the entire franchise.

Sure the delivery had a touch of raimi to it and it was relatively light but i felt it worked

I don't think you should be watching a comic book movie than, the whole genre is based on campy ideas.

you thought spidey working out what made his webbing go in the first film was smart humour?

what about spidey falling off a building in the second film, or the raindrops scene or not being allowed into the play because his shoes were untied.

or having students hit him on the head with a bag continuously because he's dropped some books.

they are all in the same league

not to me. campy is for me extreme dumb humor.

Not at all, Camp is bringing a lighthearted aspect to a movie. If handled well, it can be produce necessary effects to a serious moment. Singer handled some campy moments well in Superman Returns, and I suppose the X-Men movies as well

look the humor worked to me in spidey 1 and 2. in 3 it was over the top.

Same for me, I liked the humor in Spider-Man 1 & 2. Most of the stuff in Spider-Man 3 was funny as well, JJJ in practically all his scenes, Burce Campbell no question, but the street dance was just boderline idiotic in my opinion.

there is no difference between them.

If you're consistently picking holes in things throughout the franchise, then it's one thing but to isolate one particular scene in a film when similar scenes have been shown previously is just being...somewhat naiive and incredibly selective.

It just seems to me you're looking for reasons not to like this film.

The reason the scene was shot like that wasn't for comedic effect but was to make pete come across as an ass, we see him as the rest of the public sees him, first a lil charming then obnoxious.

the whole point you don't like it is a just a stretch off the goal of the scene making you not want to like pete, you've just taken it a lil bit too far and have viewed it from outside the box as a scene flaw instead of inside the box as a new symbiote based character flaw of peter parker.

The reason it wasn't done subtlely is because at the be all and end all, it's a children's film and some points need to be smashed home for the younger viewers.

Word.

While I didn't like the flick and yes, it did come off as idiotic in the sense that it was a rather silly take on "one's inner darkness" looked silly, BUT...

Yeah, Spidey totally is an attention-loving obnoxious cocky little SOB who just happens to have a good heart too. They got that much right. :woot: :woot: :woot:

why would i do this?

I was the only one who yelled that!

Flash then Harry then Jameson then Pete then back to Harry again wtf??

The people at my screening wouldn't shut up over this...yelling "****" and "****e"...not the kind of reactions I wanted from this movie...but they happened...WTF ever!

why would i do this?

because there are always people out there who bash things for various reasons, examples would be to act different as they feel conforming is a terrible thing, people like the nitpick to the point that it ruins something for them, they want to act like jackasses or are just haters.

I'm not saying you are any of these things, you may very well just dislike this movie.

why would i do this?
because you didn't enjoy it and you wish to validate your opinion.

Although the reasoning why you didn't enjoy it aren't at fault, saying you prefer other films with the same faults within them and not notifying them when you first saw them is.

It's like saying it's alright for your friends to have guns but simply because you don't like your this random person, it's not ok for them to have guns...

one needs to be consistent with their reasoning.

Alot of people who haven't liked this scene are in love with the second movie where a large proportion of scenes are done in a similar light to the last film.

It simply doesn't make sense.

The whole of my audience collectively clapped and cheered when Peter threw MJ to the floor. It very much ruined the moment, but you got to laugh at such an atmosphere

There are many wtf moments, but Harry's line when Peter confronted him took the cake for me: "Her kisses..." *make out session with his hand* "...where like strawberries."

This wouldn't pass in a soap opera, what were they thinking?
