Riiiiiggghhht.

Well by all means be a racist dumbass. "Props." :loco:

Exactly. When I saw an almost perfect comic book Peter Parker in Civil War I got so excited for Homecoming because I thought it was going to be the most comic book accurate Spidey film to date, because it was Marvel! I thought because the character was at home....

I should of known after the young, sexy totally not struggling financially Aunt May though!
When Peter started standing around and looking dumb saying "Mr. Stark what should I do??" that was a warning sign.

agreed.

I'd still include MJ in HS. but by not focusing on her in the first film, using Liz as the main LI for example, you could then save MJ for the big Tiger/Jackpot reveal at the end.

Have MJ be this "mystery" character that Peter always hears about from Aunt May but always seems to "just miss" in real life. He walks into the store, and he just catches a glimpse of red hair walking by. Do that several times throughout the film where they just miss each other.

then do the reveal at the end.

better than whatever plans they have now for "Michelle."

True. This could work as well. It's amazing because if Peter and MJ don't go to the same schools you can have her disappear/be in and out of the high school bits then reintroduce her when Peter gets to college.

Civil War was a big red flag for me as you know, and it still amazes me how I came out of the film loving Ant-Man as much as I did. :funny:

yeah. in SSM, MJ actually transferred to Peter's school after being introduced.

so, in the first film, MJ doesn't even have to be in Peter's school. she can transfer in the 2nd film. or wait till college, as you said. but I prefer they introduce her into HS.

Yeah, Ant-Man was one the highlights, lol. :funny: Definitely one of the best characters

So how many changes have Marvel made to mythos as well as Spidey/Peter himself that none of the previous films have even dared to do.

this is all a misdirect.

Keaton is really Uncle Ben who didn't really die that night. instead, realizing he's free from married life and the responsibility of raising his nephew, Ben decides to embrace that fun loving, sassy, flirty, party girl he's always felt trapped inside him.

Uncle Ben IS Mary Jane Watson!!

what a twist!!!

Agreed. Regarding the whole diversity thing, I think it should have gone down like this.

Have Ganke, Sally, Liz, (Latino ver), Flash, Cindy, Debra Whitman (black ver), etc in Peter's time in high school and save Gwen, MJ, Harry for college while introducing the diverse Bugle staff and the college ones while maybe keeping a few characters from high school that stick with audiences. Yay! You have a diverse cast throughout all films without putting characters into blenders!

Why would you want Peter's movie to steal something away from Miles story instead of having Peter use idk Kong or something.

Also Debra Whitman is not significant or relevant nor does she have any impact on the mythos, you can literally take her out of Peter's life and there wouldn't be a butterfly effect.

That's the thing, people want minority actors to play characters nobody gives a crap about or characters that the mythos has spent very little time on.

So basically you're just saying 'here take these scraps'.

Lol, that's not what I meant. Just saying Keaton could have played JJJ well!

you're talking about the changes in this film?

if so.......

1. Stark has a presence in Peter's life, at the very least supplying him with new costume, webshooters, gadgets, and tech. Potentially takes away from the independent, "everyman" quality of Peter who has to deal with everyday problems while saving the world.

2. MJ is no longer a white, redhead. nor is she a strikingly beautiful, fun loving, outgoing, playful party girl. at least not initially. she apparently starts out as a dry, bookish, awkward girl who looks all plain and frumpy. And she's black/bi-racial now.

3. Flash is no longer a white jock who bullies Peter physically. He's now a Guatemalan "intellectual rival" to Peter who does more trash talking than physical bullying it seems. He's also around the same height as Peter and doesn't look that much more physically intimidating as he traditionally should.

4. Betty Brant and Ned Leeds are now in Peter's HS. Ned is now a chubby Asian kid but seems to be based more on Ganke from Mile's social group. Betty is now apparently a blonde girl who looks and acts snobbish/cliquish like SSM Sally Avril. There's a Sally in this, too. but she's played by an actress who doesn't look like traditional versions of Sally but instead looks more like a different character from the comics.

5. There appears to be no Harry or Gwen or Norman in this first film.

6. This Spidey actually swears! ;)

7. Someone other than MJ or Gwen will be the main LI for Peter. This time, it's Liz Allan it seems.

Okay... geez that was just a quick example. Use Kong then, or don't use Debra if ya don't like her, not a big deal. Regarding the bolded comment: You can use and make obscure or previously unlikable characters extremely important and profound and likable when you bring them onscreen.... It's also new and refreshing to bring those characters to the third reboot. You CAN make them significant and likable. Marvel has a track record of doing this. Like Ant-Man and Guardians of The Galaxy. I, by no means, want characters of color to be portrayed badly. Please sit down and take a seat.

and that's exactly what SSM did to Liz Allan.

Sure, SSM changed her race, but the show actually made her a character that's interesting. They wove her into the story and made her an important part of Peter's life - a rival for his affection against Gwen ( and if the show ever finished, perhaps MJ in the future ).

they took a minor background character and made her interesting.

you are correct - minus the race part. It's not just changing MJ's race that has me upset. It's seemingly changing her entire character - possibly even changing her name for whatever reason. And the character change is more important than just the race change.

And it's not just the changes to MJ that have me upset, it's the changes to pretty much the entire HS school, to the point where none of the characters look or feel recognizable to me. They're not just changing races around, but seemingly changing the type and personalities of the characters. Flash is not a jock but an "intellectual bully" now who doesn't even look that physically intimidating. Betty is now HS age, but she apparently looks and acts like SSM Sally Avril. etc.

and right now, I feel like I'm almost at that point of not wanting to see the new MCU Spidey series because of the direction they seem to be going with. They have perfect casting with Tom, interesting casting with Keaton as the villain, but the rest......questionable and sometimes downright headscratching.

and it's unfortunate cuz I was so happy when Marvel finally got to get their chance with Spidey.

I was directing my comment at those who seem to have a problem with race changes in general for these comicbook film and tv shows as opposed to other changes to the personality or characterization.

Still though, if you don't like the direction the film is going so much you don't want to see it , then don't.

Nailed it. Don't forget:

8. Spidey villains are now coming from Stark industries

9. Sally Avril herself bears zero resemblance and is nothing like her comic and cartoon counterparts. Instead of being a popular chick at Midtown, she's a science nerd like Peter and chubby like Ned Leeds in this movie.

10. Aunt May is hot & young

I added the Sally part.

but I didn't know about the villains being tied to Stark Industries.

so, I guess Stark Industries is the new Oscorp?? lol

Yep, Tinkerer is a pissed off Stark industries employee who wants to get back at Tony for firing him so he makes tech for Vulture & Shocker apparently. Let me remind you that this is happening in a SPIDER-MAN movie and not an Iron Man movie where it should
