- As seen on last night's RAW, "Road Dogg" Jesse James and Billy Gunn reunited to defeat Primo and Epico. In a RAW Active video, Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow requested time to issue a challenge. They knocked The New Age Outlaws and issued a challenge for next week's RAW.

The Rhodes Scholars are like Hall and Oates: kind of broken up, but will get back together for select occasions to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting.

kind of surprised the New Age Outlaws are allowed back in WWE.

didn't they take a big dig at WWE and Vince when they were in TNA, with that whole VKM tag team name?

Both have been back for a while.

I don't think there are any insults Vince can't take if it means he'll lose money.. plus being butt buddies with Triple H probably helps:jedi

The funny thing is I used to be a big fan and actually was one of the few in here that defended him up until 2008.

He's a guy who has overstayed his welcome, along with many attitude era stars. I think Vince has the wrong mentality when people say they want the attitude era back. They want the look, feel, and mentality of the attitude era, not just the Superstars.

It's actually really cool at Road Dogg is an agent/producer and Billy Gunn is an NXT trainer. Road Dogg was one of the best talkers of the Attitude era, and he can really help develop characters and charisma in new performers. And Billy Gunn was a great all-around wrestler, so having him train new talent is pretty neat.

So when are the awful reviews for The Marine 3 going to come out?

Just watched Raw and to be frank, I HATED the set up for Taker and Punk.

Mistake no.1: Taker's goofy introduction to Old School Raw, it completely took the air out of Punk's challenge.

Mistake no.2: Punk having to "qualify" to take on Taker. After 4 years of excellent storytelling in regards to the streak, that was just a pathetic manner in which to give Punk a shot at the streak.

If I could have booked it I would have had Taker make a bee line for in kayfabe terms the best superstar of the past 12 months. What makes it even more ludicrous was the fact that Punk's promo last week was the perfect set up for Taker confronting him.

Some might say that the fatal 4 way solved WWE's problem of needing to have Punk look strong going into WM but I'm sorry, beating Show/Orton/Sheamus does not make up for his two losses against Rock and his loss against Cena. It does not make his eventual loss to Taker any better.

BUT what would have made it better was what I outlined, Taker challenging Punk outright. It would have made Punk worthy of taking on the streak rather than just getting a "fortunate" win to "qualify" to take on the streak.

I am actually really pissed off over this. And don't get me started on Trips promo....the aura of smug was unbearable.

Ouch! Rey needs to retire or only make special appearances.

Oh absolutely. He should be a part timer or special attraction these days. Thats unofficially what he is now anyway. Not sure why Rey even bothers to try a full time schedule since there is no way he can handle it today. Seems like he's spent at least half of the last 6 years on the injury list.

At this point I have to wonder if its a question of him not wanting to give up the money he makes or WWE not feeling he's worthy of the part timer status? Seems like negotiations between him and WWE are often tooth and nail kind of affairs.

Exactly. I saw some people come into this thread tonight because they saw the old school theme and it got their attention. It's one of the many reasons not to have a throwaway show. Some of the main event feuds moved forward , but I still have questions about the midcard. This needs to be resolved shortly.

Good point. Its Raws like Mondays when they SHOULD try to put on the best show they possibly can. Thats when a few people might be interested in tuning in to Raw again. Instead they waste the opportunities on a mediocre shows and don't take full advantage of the attention.

It's really cool to see this every once in a while. If they put massive effort into one of these specials it could probably sell on dvd/blu ray. Hearing the music again is very surreal.

I always enjoy them for the nostalgia factor alone. As long as they space them out and don't ruin the novelty they always have that hook.

Tweets across the screen , Ryder joining the hall of pain , and Miz doing the worst impression of Flair's strut I've ever seen.. ugh.

It was good mic work from the both of them and I think Rock has gotten better. It felt like something was missing though. Cena turning heel would make it so much better. I could see him cheating to win.

I wanted to shoot my tv when I saw Miz trying to do stuff like Flair. It was that awful. Someone please tell him to stop doing the Figure Four. Just stop. Like everyone said umpteen times last night Flair should be with Dolph. Its a much more natural fit.

I thought Rock and Cena did an ok job last night. Some of Rocks delivery didn't feel very genuine...and Cena went on a little too long. At least they kept the goofy lame assed jokes to a minumum. They are trying to paint Cena as the underdog next to an overly confident Rock and it just comes off as ridiculous from both sides. Especially Cenas though. You could wrap the angle in lead and Superman could still see right through it.

Ditto. NAO looked great last night and all four guys are good enough to make a tag match interesting. Hell I'd even settle for an 8 man tag so some newer younger talent can get the rub.

Ziggler vs Jericho is an easy to put together no brainer match that would actually be good.

I was looking forward to finally getting Sheamus Vs. Undertaker and they blew it.
..

I sort of feel the same but at least Punk will be one of the few able to carry Taker to a good match. They went with an easy explanation that makes sense but as of right now the matchup has no strong story behind it. That might change but they only have a months worth of Raws to do it. Not much.

Sheamus could probably put on a good match with Taker but that would have even less of a story and while Sheamus can work he's not of Punks caliber nor can he sell the match buildup with promos the way I'm sure Punk can. With such a short time thats why it made sense to go with the best mic man from a creative standpoint.

Re: Best of Nitro Volume 2

Lots of goodies on this set. Its certainly better than Volume 1 such as this gem:

I REALLY need to buy this. So glad to hear its better than the first set which really disappointed me.

I just wish they would stop dubbing over Goldberg's WCW theme. Sh**'s annoying!

What are the dubbing it over with? Goldbergs WWE theme?

Re: Bret Hart: Dungeon Collection

When Bret Hart had his previous DVD set released in 2005, there was nothing, but brutal honesty from him as well as some unease after burying the hatchet with Vince.

Fast forward to now with The elder, but dignified Hitman picking up where he left off. This time with him having peace of mind. He goes over these handpicked matches (I forgot how good the KOTR match with Diesel was!) before they're shown and he also tells some great stories like a grandfather would about the days of yore.

I really enjoyed this layout and hope for more Unreleased Matches from other great Superstars giving their thoughts on their past work. The presentation ends with Bret doing what any wrestling fan would do: staying at home watching classic matches on a big ass HDTV! :D

This also good to know. It was a must buy for me anyway but I really need to get it now. The format sounds unique.

I also think he's pissed someone off by defying expectations. His treatment lately has been pretty ridiculous.

Cena is never going to turn heel. I have given up on that ever happening.

It would be epic if Cena beat the Rock and turned Heel but its not going to happen. As long as Cena is in the WWE he is going to have the same character he has now
.

Vince likes to follow the same formulas and people forget Hogan was a face for the whole of his second run in the WWF. Almost ten years! Then it was two more years after he went to WCW that he turned. Before all of that he was a face in the AWA. Thats the better part of 15 years as a babyface. I think there's a slim chance that Cena could turn one day but I wouldn't expect it. If Vince sticks to his usual MO he'll get everything he can out of Cenas face run. Some people here think the whole crowd hates him but its only a lot of older fans (not even all of them). Cenas still making them way too much money.

And for people who think it would creatively be the right thing to do (and it would be) Vince is the same guy who has relied on a part timer to draw at the top for three Wrestlemanias in a row. Its all symptoms of the same problems. He stopped giving a f*** about whats best creatively a long time ago. Its all about what makes money.

If people want a change from Cena we need to see people being less happy to see the same old stuff (even when its some stuff they like) and actually give Vince a real reason to take some widespread creative gambles. He feels no need to take creative risks or put effort into quality booking when he knows that despite them hating Cena the Attitude Era marks will still pay their money to see The Rock, HHH, and The Undertaker. And he gets the money from the kids with Cena on top for their generation. In Vince's eyes its win-win since he has people who can make money by appealing to different generations of fandom.

It doesn't.

WWE can have Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, Cesaro, Miz, Ziggler and so on talk all they want about bringing prestige back to those titles but if you continue to book those champs like trash it means nothing.

Exactly. The midcard, the talent, and the belts don't mean sh** to Vince. They are filler in his eyes. The weak build most of these guys have going towards Wrestlemania 29 is proof of that. The days of midcard titles mattering is going to be over for a while unless there is a real creative shakeup in WWE.

I hope this leads to some kind of match at Wrestlemania for Rhodes Scholars. Either a two team or three team or four team match. The Outlaws could put them over strong. Thats something Rhodes and Sandow need.

?

Yeah but Vince has allowed people back in WWE despite doing and saying worse things. WWE knows they need veteran talents as good as Jesse James and Billy Gunn to either work as agents or directly put over younger talents in the ring or both. Guys of their skill and popularity who can still go are scarce now a days. Plus while they aren't always best buddies with HHH they were memorable parts of DX and the Attitude Era and WWE loves squeezing ever more money out of DX and Attitude stuff when they can.

Agreed. I think it would be a mistake to bring the Attitude Era back whole hog but I wish Vince could see behind the stars and asthetics to see what else made that era sucessful. The world has changed, a lot of that stuff wouldn't fly now, and WWE needs to progress not regress but elements of Attitude era booking, star building, and unpredictablity should return. Like you said Vince can't seem to seperate one thing from the other though.

Punk could be an anti estableshment/anti authority kind of hero or anti hero like Austin while still being quite different from Austin. The difference is Austin was booked strong but they've dropped the ball with Punk despite him doing some great work and having great talent. Right now he's as sucessful as he is mostly in spite of WWE creative not because of them.

Ditto. Seems like WWE felt winning the four way would give Punk some much needed cred but it doesn't equal the two losses to Rock back to back. Especially that first loss which was so piss poor.

It all felt so slapped together with no story. I agree that it would have made Punk feel more important and like a bigger deal if Taker had just challenged him directly. That would have validated Punks historic title reign. But WWE sh**'s on Punks accomplisments again by ranking him with three other guys who aren't on his level right now.

All that really makes Punks comments last week more of a headscratcher. They were clearly setting up something for Taker to respond to as well as the eventual match but there was no payoff response this week when there easily should have been.

Why take the effort have Punk say all that stuff that was obviouslty aimed at the Undertaker by creative only to have Undertaker ignore it a week later?

After the last four Wrestlemanias the bar has been raised on the streak and the storylines surrounding it. I don't think Takers matches with HBK will ever be topped but I understand that. They could at least put the effort into the buildup of newer matches. Does Son in Law not want Taker vs Punk to be built up as well as Taker vs the DX duo?

I am actually really pissed off over this. And don't get me started on Trips promo....the aura of smug was unbearable.

Yeah while I thought his delivery was good if felt like HHH was more concerned with kising his own a** and putting himself over than building Brock as an actual threat. This match still does not need to happen. Nothing changed that last night. Its a waste of time for both of them when they could be putting over or at least working with younger talent.

He put Brock over a little but then he went on to put down Lesnar and Heyman in the same breath. You know he and Vince get off on crap like that between family workout sessions.

couldnt have said it better myself,Extremly disapointing

Was nice to see the old school intro, prefer that W logo to the one they use now, looks classic and fits today image of its for the kids, as it was pre-attitude.

Miz/Flair was crap, as soon as Ric came out I knew Miz was gonna win meaning Ziggler having to job to another nobody for another week.

Rock/Cena had it moments though as normal Cena seems to ramble on and on and on that I just turn out in my head until someone else speaks.
I don't see how or why he needs redemption, the guy has had more wins/titles handed to him in decades, yet feels like lost his way! He was still headlining PPV's over the actual Champion.
I'd would be nice if Rock just wins again then Cena has to know he isn't the man, just a merch man. The crowd can't stand him, he got an awful reception last night and it will be even worse at WM, if he does get the belt back my interests in Raw will drop alot until they do something good with him.

It would be nice if they started using that logo again

Ziggler was built up before the rumble as a winner and now he's jobbing to Miz. It's doesn't make sense. At least losing to Ryback made more sense because Ryback is teetering on the top of the mid card. I guess he needs to be squashed for his momentous MITB cash in.

Cena's redemption story doesn't work for the exact reason you just mentioned. Redeemed from what? The guy has been headlining ppv's for a year and Punk called him out in promos saying he would always rise to the top. Also the Rumble win wasn't built enough in my opinion. We all knew Cena would win and then they have Cena on tv acting surprised. It's a complete fail to push the redemption angle It should just focus on Cena wanting his win over Rock.

I'm glad it wasn't a one time performance. The NAO could help rebuild the Tag division.

kind of surprised the New Age Outlaws are allowed back in WWE.

didn't they take a big dig at WWE and Vince when they were in TNA, with that whole VKM tag team name?

They can blame the drug problems. Both are clean now and doing much better , but Gunn basically said he was talking out of his ass when he bashed WWE beforehand in a recent interview.

I wanted to shoot my tv when I saw Miz trying to do stuff like Flair. It was that awful. Someone please tell him to stop doing the Figure Four. Just stop. Like everyone said umpteen times last night Flair should be with Dolph. Its a much more natural fit.

I wonder if WWE might of realized this last night. Maybe Flair could turn on Miz and team up with Ziggler. Flair's hair is really thinning out , but it's kind of funny how the hairstyles match up. Also we know Ziggler an do the moves without looking goofy like Miz did last night.

The angle doesn't work for me , but it was nice to see Rock out there doing his promo without lame jokes. The Lance Armstrong line was brilliant in comparison to his jabs last year.

I'd like to see Sheamus vs Undertaker , but the promos would barely have the same fire. Punk will be able to get people invested within the small amount of time left. Actually seeing Orton last night made me think he might be a good opponent for Undertaker again , but that's even less likely.

Punk could be an anti establishment/anti authority kind of hero or anti hero like Austin while still being quite different from Austin. The difference is Austin was booked strong but they've dropped the ball with Punk despite him doing some great work and having great talent. Right now he's as successful as he is mostly in spite of WWE creative not because of them.
.

It seems obvious to rest of us , but WWE doesn't fully grasp where they could go with Punk. It's kind of shameful.

I couldnt help but notice that Punk bought back some of his straight edge persona during last nights raw.

Ryback is the number one contender for the United States Championship, right? He’s beaten Cesaro clean at least six times. Hype that up a bit, have him get his shot next week, and then have Henry ruin it for him to set up their match.

My biggest disappointment with RAW was mark Henry not just flat out bulldozing Ryback.

Another issue for me is why would I ever buy a ppv when they use potential main events in throwaway matches on Raw? The WHC vs the Intercontinental champion? A big deal should be made of that, it was treated like just another match. Oh and the IC champ gets a jobber entrance? Ridiculous. Cesaro should have beaten Ryback, even if it was something like a foot on the ropes for leverage pin. Ryback could survive a loss.

Miz is just terrible as a face, moreso as Flair's apprentice. The natural fit was on the other side of the ring. The MiTB winner jobber strategy i never got that. When is the last time Dolph had a decisive clean win over an upper tier talent? At best he'll inheret the Jericho spot. Never really being on the level of the Cena's and Orton's even though he's better all around then both. Miz is ideally suited as a mid card heel, or ina tag where he can so the talking wrestle a few spots, and his partner works the majority of the matches

Like everyone else here I never saw Ryder as a ME guy but he should be on tv. He can get the crowd going and occasionally challenge for the US title again. Or pair him with a good worker who can't talk. There aren't too may face tags teams and and theam Hell No will break up soon leaving only Kofi/Truth and the Usos.

Now, I do like that they are focusing more on the tag division as I always enjoyed those matches when we have real teams not just two superstars thrown together though kane and Bryan has worked well. A limited run for the NAO would be nice as they can help put over the Rhodes Scholars. Now I see Sandow with a bright future asa singles star but for now this would be ideal for both men.

I'm also glad to see WWE is open to brining back more managers. Colter is great, and as for Jim Mitchell? I can really only see him with Kane to help him get beack his demonic nature or some such thing. I still want Striker to become a manager. Leo Kruger and Kassius Ohno have been teaming on NXT and I think they'd be a great addition to the tag division and he could use them to get revenge on all the wrestlers that have abused him over the years. Simple storyline but i think it works, and it gets two guys I like on the main roster.

As for Mania we have

Cena vs Rock
Trips vs Brock
Taker vs Punk
Show/Sheamus/Orton vs The Shield
Mark Henry vs Ryback
Barrett vs Bo Dallas (could be added as Bo beat him and they attacked each other a couple times and there has been no resolution. Plus I'm a big Bo fan so would like to see him make it. He needs a manager for sure, though)

As for post Mania, after Cena is the champ what's left for him? Systematically beating the Shield members? A heel Ryback? Who else poses a believable threat?

One last thing, I've been thining about Smackdown, and how it could have it's own identity, and not just be the B show. I'd play up that their title is a WORLD championship, and how they ahve Superstarts from all over the globe competing for there title. Del Rio, Barrett, Orton, Sheamus, Cesaro, and Kofi etc.

Lastly Christian needs to be on TV

Ok, long assed post is over.

right now, the best way to turn Punk face/anti-hero tweener would be a Heyman/Lesnar/Shield turn on Punk.

Heyman gets tired of Punk losing, or actively screws Punk out of a win in favor of his "boy" Lesnar.

To be honest, I were WWE, I'd work towards getting rid of the WHC. The problem with the WHC is that it's not as popular as the WWE title (and with brand extension over it only plays second fiddle to it), and it's only distracting from the IC title. Brand extension is over. There's no need for two major titles anymore. I'd work towards a unification match and get rid of it. There's so much focus on both that and the WWE titles that the US and IC titles are suffering for it.

^ agreed.

I'd also unify the IC and US titles, too.

Have Lesner/Shield attack Punk just when he is on the verge of winning ( this way Punk looks very strong dispite losing)

I say unify the WHC and WWE titles. Keep the US and IC titles separate; use the US title as the junior singles title for more typical "WWE style" heavyweight wrestlers, and transition the IC title to become the unspoken global cruiserweight/X-division style title in everything but name (that way it can be transitioned back into a traditional junior heavyweight title at any given time without having to close yet another title with a good history).

The only title that matters seem to be the WWE championship it feels like. Divas, Tag, IC, US and WHC feel like an after thought these days.

The problem with merging the titles is that then you have got 50 plus wrestlers and only small number of titles.

Most of the locker room won't even get a title if you take away anymore belts. The titles need to be booked better and treated with more prestige. Make the Tag, IC and US titles something wrestlers actual want again.

I can see Punk vs Taker being a good match. I think those two will push each other and really want to put on a great show.
