These profile sites are depressing me

join or start a rock band
get some female vocalists/instrumentalists
date them
make out with them
etc.
it's that simple.

Yeah this is another thing.

Too many girls seem to be going out of their way to make themselves look like shallow *******s. Play a musical instrument, especially the guitar, and all of a sudden you'd get girls all over ya asking questions.

Nobody seems to be impressed when you tell them you're a writer. EVERYBODY wants to be in a rock band or date someone in a rock band.

Untrue. False generalization.

You're acting like "the internet" is myspace.
The people I know who have had GREAT success finding GREAT people met people through a more serious thing like harmony.com, where there are in depth tests to find compatible people, or, while pursuing their own interests like music or movies, and then meeting someone else who was just pursuing their own interest, not "looking to get laid".

Yeah, one of my friends met his current girlfriend on a site like eHarmony or Match and they're really good together. A MySpace like site just feels like it'd be worthless to meet girls.

That's because you say "writer" and women hear "slacker who'd rather not get a real job so he 'writes', and likely couldn't support me and our potential children if a relationship were to blossum and go that far." :o

sorry *shrug*

I know 3 different couples in great marriages that met on eHarmony and Match...they work.

Jesus Christ...

Men and women have been getting together long before the internet was around. Try not using the internet to meet Ms. Right. If you want to interact with people get away from your computer!!!!

^Lol! it's the truth though :D

You just wanna knock a bunch of those hood rats out right. Stop puttin' the ***** on a pedestral, like *****lyah.

Believe it or not, I met my fiance on eHarmony.com. We are getting married next year. And I had tried the other sites (yahoo, match.com, etc.) prior to that and they are pretty much crap. My biggest reason for turning to online stuff was because I pretty much ran out of single friends. :) There was nobody to go out looking for women with, my work is very limited as far as women go, and I simply can't just go to the bar or whatever by myself. *shrug*

I'm not necessarily advocating the internet as the one and only way to find a date...but it can work if you go to the right place. But if you can go out and meet people, do it.

Yeah its not really whats going through my mind, to find a soul mate. I just feel lonely, and can't really see another alternative. I don't know where I can hang out besides bars where I could easily meet interesting and attractive girls. And meeting girls at bars is a bad idea.

I joined a photography class earlier this year, and the whole class was old people :(

Bars are not the answer. Guys are always complaining about the low class of women they meet at bars, but they keep going, expecting that to change. You have the right idea with the photography class,(too bad about the old people .. but hey! Some of them may have daughters ) Where did you take it, at a community center or something? Try to take classes like that at a university so you'll have a better chance of meeting younger people.

And as a woman, I can say the writer thing is definitely good. But are you actually making your living as a writer yet or still just a wannabe? If you're not actually making your living that way, some women might just perceive that as a line you put out there and not take you seriously. :(
