Endgame Thor/God of Thunder - Chris Hemsworth

I read J. Michael Straczynski's negative tweet regarding Lebowski Thor this morning.

Hemsworth is amazing and highly talented, he can play anything. I just rather wish that they had kept the character as Thor rather than -- apparently for lack of knowing how to handle him without being corny -- using him for comic relief and finally turning him into Volstagg.

But I thought I remembered him doing the exact same thing to Balder the Brave. But no, it was the great Walt Simonson who gave us an overweight Balder who lay down his sword while suffering from PTSD.

I always felt that Odin (as portrayed in the comics) was a little on the heavy side as well. Either way, this is the coolest Thor has looked since the first act in Ragnarok.

Was Hemsworth wearing a fat suit or did they digitally alter his body?

I'm sorry, that specific armor looks better on Fat Thor. Not just the long hair and beard but the shoulder area too. He looks a little like Odin.

Agreed. I'd say he looks a lot like Odin there.

Just saw the film again. I'll admit that I've warmed up a little bit to this new Thor.

But for the life of me, I still can't figure out on what his contribution was towards defeating Thanos.

Iron Man- Sacrificed his life to remove Thanos and his armies from existence.

Captain America- He was pretty much the glue that kept the group together and essentially led them to victory.

Black Widow- She gave up her life in order to obtain the Soul Stone.

Hawkeye- He assisted Widow in getting the stone (since he helped her fulfill the something you love most must be sacrificed requirement) and he kept the gauntlet out of the clutches of Thanos's minions at the start of his attack on Avengers base.

Hulk- He essentially sacrificed his arm in order to undo the snap.

Off the top of my head, the only thing that I can think of was Thor bringing back his old hammer into the main timeline. But aside from that, I still could not figure out on what contribution he made towards defeating Thanos like everyone else from the original six.

I don't know the exact times, but it seemed to me that Thor spent more time than any other hero going toe-to-toe with Thanos. When the Big 3 led the way into the climactic battle, it was Thor who shouldered the bulk of the hand-to-hand exchanges with Thanos, at least until Cap was able to wield Mjolnir and even the odds a little.

(Sigh)

You don't see it because you don't want to. Cuz what anyone else can see is he actually traded blows with Thanos more than any other character in the movie.

I get that some folks are upset that Odinson was Thanos' punching bag. But this is a guy not in peak form absorbing a body stomp, an axe to the chest, and multiple full-force punches to the face from a nigh indestructible space god. The same guy that KO'd the frikkin' Hulk last year in record time. And Lebowski Thor gets back up a few minutes later to stand toe to toe with an army of Avengers.

The only thing tougher than Mjolnir and Stormbreaker is Thor's jaw.

Well, I think Thor was the only one who knew how to get the reality stone, so there's that.

Either keep thick Thor for GOTG 3 or I would love to see this version of him in some shape or form.

In Praise of Thor, the Classic Mama's Boy

Truly an article worth reading regarding Thor’s meeting with Frigga. Insightful and beautiful analysis. Here’s a passage regarding Thor...

The angle they played him in this movie was more comedic but I genuinely felt so bad for him in that scene. Even when the hammer came back to him it go mostly laughs but it got me, you got the feeling he generally didn't think he was still worthy.

Basically for the two BIGGEST films in the MCU Thor's power was durability. We're talking the God of Thunder here. More was expected.

Well, Odinson also single handedly turned the tide in the battle of Wakanda and came within inches of killing a space god with the power of everything. So his powers extended beyond merely absorbing punishment.

My favorite heroes are those who stand tall despite being outmatched and knowing they are likely to fail. My Avatar references a classic FF tale in which Ben Grimm takes a beating from the Hulk, dusts himself off and comes back for round 2. I prefer to see Thor's extraordinary courage over another power display.

After seeing the movie twice, I can't blame anyone for disliking Thor's portrayal. As a Thor fan, it could be tough watching almost everyone else get portrayed at their best, while Thor...isn't.

It's an interesting portrayal, just not a very flattering one. Contrast this with IW Thor, which manages to be both.
