Sequels Thor: Love and Thunder

Tessa's comment about finding her queen makes me think Jane will be her love interest though. Not a fan of that direction if that is the case but whatevs.

Well just like that my enthusiasm has been dampened. I get that others are excited but I'm starting to wonder if the things I've wanted to see in a Thor film will ever be realized.

I'll try and keep an open mind but right now it looks like I was right to be worried. Taika is a weird dude but he's clever. Ragnarok wasn't what I expected but it was a great film in its own right and delivered some of my favorite movie Thor moments.

Man though... what a terrible cringy title. It makes me think this film is just going to be a total joke and that Ragnarok's humor will look tame by comparison.

I never read the Jane Thor story line but maybe I should before I judge this. I'm familiar with the dying of cancer angle but after the way Taika handled the destruction of Asgard I'm not sure he'll hit the right emotional beats there. I don't love everyone going around wielding Mjolnir but if anyone else was to do it, I was hoping it would have been Beta Ray Bill. And just because you wield Mjolnir that doesn't make you Thor. I mean that's like his name. It's not a title like Captain America or a secret identity like Spider-Man.

Natalie coming back is actually one of the things that is retaining my interest personally. I didn't like how she was written out of these films. She's a wonderful actress and with the right writing and direction she will do great.

Tremendously disappointed at the lack of Sif. Hoping for Amora. Still hoping for BRB. Balder or Mangog would have been great. Guess we'll see what happens.

Im with ya

I wasnt as enamored with the jane thor story as most (and i agree that Thor is the guys name, not some title)

But the biggest issue is portman, she looked so damn bored in her other two performances and always seemed like a rare MCU miscast to me. She doesnt sell the fantastical aspects of Thor, and even the chemistry between her and hemsworth always felt unnatural outside of the one cute scene of him kissing her hand in Thor 1(which wasnt scripted)
I love ragnarok tho so I have hope Taika does well here, but this took a lotta the wind outta my sails

I also think Taika heard the complaints from people that thought the comedy undermined some of the emotional beats. And i hope he's brining the Jane Foster Thor storyline in order to layer a more even story.

He just needs to tone down the humor a bit when he digs into the emotional aspect of the story. He has done just that with his previous work. But in Ragnarok i do agree he was much more interested in flexing the comedy muscles... He now has another chance to make a deeper, personal and more impactful story.

Regarding everything else we know that Taika can deliver, the inspiration/flair, the humor, the visuals, the spectacle, the chemistry, the performances... Ragnarok was a solid win. I think Thor: L&T could be stronger movie if it delivers a lot of the stuff on a similar level and improves on the things that didn't work as well.

I wouldn't judge this on her performance from TDW. The fiasco with Patty Jenkins and Alan Taylor was probably one of Marvel's biggest snafus as a young studio. They've course corrected nicely since and even though I'm nervous about where they are taking Thor, Taika has been an inspired choice. One thing I'm pretty sure about is that Taika will get great performances from his actors.

Jane as Thor definitely isn't the angle I would have taken, at least not at this stage, but Ragnarok is one of my favorite movies of the past few years and Taika's work continues to impress me so they have my full trust at this point.

Ragnarok was a breath of fresh air and it's my favorite MCU movie.
Having said that the movie isn't perfect. A few things that didn't quite work to its full potential...

- Humor undercutting the pathos of the story.
- Reshoots tarnishing the final product.
- Unevenness of the movie with... Asgard/Sakaar.
- Some missed opportunities. Odin interacting with Hela...

Having said that i could write a long list of positives that make Ragnarok the absolute win it turned out to be. I trust/hope Taika has learnt from his mistakes tackling his first big budget movie and i expect him to be even better the second time around.

I'll be honest, I didn't like Ragnarok & while I still would have without question went to see Thor 4, after some initial teaser information & the title has been released I'm looking forward to this very much.

The only thing I hope is that Taika/Hemsworth tone down the comedy in this next one, it was at a 10 or 11 in Ragnarok, I need it down to a 6 or a 7. I found it incredibly difficult to take anything Ragnarok did seriously or emotionally to heart because everything was treated as a big joke.

The emotional moments in Ragnarok all landed for me. YMMV but I've personally never bought the idea that the presence of humor automatically undercuts drama and tension.

I felt there was a bit too much over reliance on the humor. Even though for the most part it was really funny. For example Odin's death still got to me but the reshoot look of the scene took me out of it. Those where vital parts of the movie that should have been we'll ironed out before hand.

There are som nice touches with Thor mourning in Sakaar, the brotherly talk... Then the pep talk with Odin again was significant but again the reshoots plagued that scene as well which i din't appreciate. Sure the reshoots made the final product better but they stuck out like a sore thumb in my eyes. I would've like to have seen a more even look throughout.

Then again these are more script issues which needed to be addressed in post.

If it's done right it doesn't, but there was a couple of occasions it was poorly timed in Ragnarok ruining what should have been more emotional moments than what they were.

Korg's lines & interactions at the end on the ship regarding the foundations being gone, him trampling over Miek etc is a good example of that.

I enjoyed Ragnarok quite a bit. I did feel some humor was a bit much or a little childish. The devils anus name and jokes with it for example I remember thinking were too much.

I like funnier good natured Thor, but I also like the side of Thor who is serious too. I’d like to see more balance with that, face his demons and burdens a little bit. Or at least talk about them some.

Again i love Ragnarok even with it's flaws. That movie is so much more than just the title character.
Having said that i think that IW hit the perfect balance for Thor and was the character's best showing in MCU's history.

This.

Was the perfect balance, the character had his moments of humour without becoming a complete buffoon, all the while having an emotional & rage filled journey.

I love Ragnarok but definetly hope the humor is toned down for this one.

I'm not a big fan of the Jane storyline in the comics but am not totally against this in the mcu. We'll see.

My favorite Thor has been Infinite War and some parts of Endgame!

Natalie Portman is a stunner

Actually, she was in Endgame.

Also did Portman phone in her performances, or was her character an unwritten afterthought?
I’m going with poorly written?

Like I said, I enjoyed her in the first. Her drive for science, finding answers, how excited she got about discoveries etc. being smart yet awkward. I feel like a lot of that got taken from her in the second. They made Darcy more important than her. Put way more emphasis on her than Jane. The awkward date was awkward in a bad way. I liked her best on Asgard in TDW than in earth.

A lot of people are saying that they think Thor will mentor and train Jane as the new Thor. I haven’t read that story arc and am only vaguely familiar with it

But could that possibly be a good thing in a way? Maybe helping her will help him get back on the path he should be on. Get out of the slump and become the king he could become?

I am with you. I wasn't too big on how they handled her attraction to Thor in the first movie, but there was definitely things to like about her in that one imo. By the time TDW came around, she was the usual MCU stick in the mud, who was somehow the Macguffin who stopped the movie dead multiple times.

The Last Jedi before Luke died. :o

Maybe Jane Foster Thor will be Thor's personal trainer to help him get back into shape. We could get a training montage where he keeps trying to eat and she takes away his food, makes him run up a few mountains with her, circuit training and bench press some weights.

thor is in space.
valkyrie wants a thor on earth. jane will be that person.

i definitely see 2 side stories joining up later in the movie. thor could also encounter beta ray bill while in space.

this movie can see 3 different thors with either jane or OG thor riding off into the sunset at the end.

And yeah, considering Jane will be becoming Thor, I am betting pretty highly the love story is between the pair of them. Exploring the aspects of what worked, what didn't, and what happens when Jane is Thor's "equal".
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to this. After all the work Taika, Hemsworth and Tessa did in Ragnarok to make this franchise well loved by people. Jane is going to reap all the reward. So I guess Tessa is not going to have much screentime in this and its going to be all about Thor and Jane again. Who was even clamouring for Jane to come back? The two have no romantic chemistry whatsoever. I'm down for Lady Thor, but it should have been Valkyrie. That was who most thought was going to get the title if the MCU did that storyline. Tessa has the swagger and is a fan favourite and they passed her over for Jane Foster, who is the dullest female character in the MCU.
I was so excited for Thor 4 when we got the announcement. I was hoping Thor, Valkyrie and Hulk would get to go on an adventure together. I'm still going to watch it, I trust Taika, but I'm very skeptical about this. I just hope this Jane foster is from an alternative universe.

Maybe Valkyrie will hook up with Jane Foster in this movie?
