Glad Disney look like they are sorting the problems out.

On reviews, all the ones I've read have either really loved or completely hated the film lol. Classic Burton!!

More positive ones though so that's good.

The positive reviews are pretty encouraging. I might actually catch this in IMAX this weekend.

II'm surprised that there is so much hate for Burton. so many seem ready to call the film bad before seeing it. Does it look like a weird surrealist painting? Yes. Should we be surprised? No.

Okay, I'll agree that CATCF was pretty mediocre. But every other Burton-Depp collaboration has been nothing short of very good and sometimes spectacular--including their last work together, the criminally underrated Sweeney Todd.

Bring on Alice and all the weirdness that follows.

I agree.

I actually love Burton. But lately he has been making just average movies and that is worrying. Alice might be excellent but so far it sounds the average Burtonian collection of visuals without any substance to add to the Alice universe. Batman, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Nightamare Before Christmas, Big Fish, all masterpieces, but this sounds more like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; you enjoy it while it lasts then you easily forget it.

I watched a few clips online and thy weren't as bad as I found the trailers to be. I'll probably catch a matinee showing....

Really looking forward to catching this. Comes out this week in Oz.

I have a feeling based on the trailers that this won't be remotely close to Burton's best work. But, I think it will be better than CATCF.

I liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so if it's better then that movie I will be very, very happy.

CATCF is okay. I'm a big Burton fan, too. But, CATCF had a great score and scenery, and is good while it is on. However, it is inferior to the original film and quite forgettable. I don't hate it by any stretch, but it is def one of Burton's worst films.

I will agree it's one of his lesser films but I did have fun while watching it. I do recognize all it's flaws though and I can understand why other people were disappointed, especially when you compare it to the original film.

That's part of the curse of being someone like Tim Burton. People know you're capable of great films, and while most remakes are going to be second thoughts to people whom write them off as not as good as the original before it is made, Burton is a guy you think can maybe do something different and just as good as the original. Especially since he can attract real talent like Depp to his films. When that doesn't happen, he'll get it harder than a random filmmaker people expected to fail.

CATCF is a good film on its own merit. It's just not great. It's still better than a lot of other director's at their worst. Only Burton film I legitimately think sucks is Planet of the Apes. That is terrible.

Did you see Sweeney Todd? Because that was his last movie and IMO is his second best (right after Ed Wood on his best list). And the film he did right before CATCF is Big Fish, which you call a masterpiece. It seems the only movie he's made lately that you call average is CATCF. Yet two of his last three movies were great so this criticism from fans always puzzles me, really

I watched the movie yesterday :D

Didn't enjoyed it as much... I thought it was a little empty and predictable, and the visuals were a little "dim", "opaque" when I thought it should be all about wonderment (in underland). The actors were ok, except for Helena, who was Wonderful.

The M/C Review: 'Alice In Wonderland' is anything but wonderful

It's been a little over a week since I saw Tim Burton's new "Alice In Wonderland", which is not so much a remake or an adaptation as it is a sequel, ignoring of course the idea that Lewis Carroll wrote a perfectly lovely sequel himself. It is wrong-headed in pretty much every way it can be, poorly designed, loud, and worst of all, boring. It is a catastrophe as a movie, and as a place marker in the career of Tim Burton, it is a big fat dead end.

Remember when it used to be exciting to hear that Tim Burton was making a new film? Those days seem to be well and truly behind us. That's a shame, too.

Not in "Alice At Wonderland," though. Any sign of the artist whose career I've enjoying watching over the years is submerged completely here, and what we're left with is a whole lot of art direction, a ton of expensive effects work, some of the ugliest 3D of the modern era, and not a hint of fun or wonder. Add to that a script that seems to be almost completely ignorant of what it is that makes the original work by Lewis Carroll so significant and elastic, and I'm genuinely baffled as to what anyone is expected to take from the endeavor.

And then there's Johnny Depp. As disappointed as I am in Tim Burton on this film, multiply that by a thousand for Depp. I would like to formally request that Congress step in and pass a law that prevents him from working with Tim Burton anymore, because at this point, I think they're starting to actively hurt each other.

This time out, though, his work as the Mad Hatter is nigh unwatchable. It's a jumble of crazy voices and creepy make-up and shifting accents, and instead of coming across as someone genuinely damaged or mad or eccentric or fascinating, he just plain feels like he's trying too hard. And did anyone... ANYONE... really need a backstory for the Mad Hatter to explain why he's mad? No? Well, too bad, 'cause you're gonna get one. And it's really really stupid.

I guess Cameron was right.
James Cameron Criticizes Tim Burton and 3D DVD Releases
Peter Sciretta said:
James Cameron gave a keynote presentation at the 3D Entertainment Summit today, and took aim at Tim Burton, who is filming Disney’s upcoming 3D adaptation of Alice in Wonderland using 2D cameras. Burton plans to convert the footage to 3D in post production, a decision that has angered and baffled the 3D community. “It doesn’t make any sense to shoot in 2D and convert to 3D,” Cameron said.

I'll be skipping this.

Yes!

Yes. I forgot Sweeney. You're right.

It all depends. If the film is shot in 3-D then, Im all for it. But if a film is shot on 2-D and later on they decide to add the "3-D element", it might not look good.
