Tim Burton's Dark Shadows - Part 2

To be honest, I''m not really a big fan of any of those movies. The only Burton-Depp movies I like are the Ed movies. :cwink:

I love Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands (though neither of them were out-and-out comedies like Beetlejuice, Pee-Wee and Dark Shadow's trailer), though I think Sweeney Todd is on par with them. A true masterpiece, in my opinion.

But the material of Dark Shadows lends itself more to their darker films. I'm curious what it would have been like if John Logan or a Jane Goldman type had written the screenplay instead. Oh well.

Why are y'all acting like DACrowe is crazy with the "de-aging" claim? They de-age everyone in promo pics and magazine covers, and they've definitely done it with these posters. And yes, they are trying to de-age them to make them look the most appealing (except the kids, one of whom they creepily aged up for presumably the same reason). That's just what happens in the age of Photoshop.

They did it with Depp, Pfeiffer, Haley, and pretty much everyone in the cast over the age of 20. Who is seriously gonna deny that? He was just making an observation, and it wasn't that Michelle Pfeiffer is some ugly old hag.

They airbrush the wrinkles out of the famous people and not the supporting actors. I point that out and people act like I'm ruining their childhood heroes.
No, it's not that.

It's that you seem to have entered the territory of "I don't like this movie and people don't agree with me so I'm going to point out every single minute flaw in it to be annoying as possible and try to prove my hatred valid."

It's okay. We've all been there. :o
Was CATCF really that dark? Being darker than the 1970s film is not the same as being dark. It was still a whimsical film with candy colors about Johnny Depp playing a character with a funny voice and quirks aimed at appealing towards children. It may not be as light as Pee-Wee, but it's in the same ballpark.
Um, yeah, it's pretty dark. Is it Sleepy Hollow? Of course not. It's a children's film. But it's certainly more than "candy colors and Johnny Depp with a funny voice." There's a lot of pretty dark subtext in the story. Dahl's work is generally cited as being some of the darker entries of children's fiction.

Oh, I'm trolling?

I mostly have only been posting in response to direct questions/pointes being poised to me, including this one.

For the record, I'm actually hoping to like this movie. I didn't realize talking about the posters other people around here have knocked is trolling. :o

That may be, but the only thing menacing about the movie is that some people thought Depp's Willy Wonka was Michael Jackson (back when people still associated him with child molestation). In and of itself, the movie was pretty light to me when they add in the "Willy is upset at his father" subplot as well as all the colorful CGI. If you ignore the comparisons to MJ, his Wonka is just one of his harmless pop culture goofs that his younger fans eat up like Captain Jack and the Mad Hatter.

I'm not knocking the movie, I just think it was a crowd pleaser that smoothed out the dark edges. But fair enough.

Do you honestly believe I'd think someone that's been posting here for 12 years would be trolling? :o

In any case, you really are missing a lot of the subtext of the film. Willy Wonka behaved that way because he was an under-socialized, emotionally neglected person, and unfairly ridiculed as a child. His whole story is one of parental and societal abuse and misunderstanding.

I know you mean no offense to the film, and I'm not trying to like prove you wrong or anything. But it always kinda irks me when people miss the subtext of movies because they're literally missing the best part of the movie.

I have no problem saying I would tap that.

Alice in Wonderland was such utter crap. Glad it looks like Burton is making a great film again. Really looking forward to this one.

Just saw a commercial on CBS during NCAA. Haven't seen any Avengers yet.

They also showed the full trailer (with the additional Alice Cooper scene) last week with Once Upon a Time. Seems like the floodgates have finally opened.

My science professor was talking about the old Dark Shadows show in class yesterday and she was ecstatic when I told her a new movie was coming out starring Johnny Depp. I sent her the link on youtube and she couldn't stop laughing

Laughing with derision and anger or laughing at the parts that were supposed to be funny? :funny:

Who laughs out of anger?

I'd have zero problems. I have a thing for older women, if you know what I mean. :woot:
