Tim Burton's Dark Shadows - Part 2

Yes, because Homer Simpsons is a fine example of normal human behavior.

Stating something that is clearly true without the slightest semblance of sarcasm is not a joke.

Homer does indeed laugh out of impatience. What about that is a joke?

I've laughed when I was angry before .

De-constructing humour is about the most stupid pointless activity ever. But your Sheldon Cooper-esque response to it is more amusing and useful.

It was a joke.

It's okay. We all swing and miss sometimes. :o

I'm checking this out because we haven't really gotten anything insanely quirky from Burton for a minute. It's obviously going to have the message that the Collins family is even more ****ed up than Barnabas, a vampire is, but it should be fun getting to that.

well that was...not what i was expecting. :(
me either i was hyped when i heard they were remaking dark shadows but the trailer make it look like a straight up comedy.it looks worse than sleepy hollow which i liked.:csad:

I'm disappointed by the tone this movie seems to be taking. Dark Shadows was campy from time to time but it really wasn't meant to be a comedy.

I read somewhere that it's supposed to be more horror mixed with comedy. I think they're just playing up the comedy elements more because that's what the general audience likes.

The general audience may like the more comedic aspects of something like this, but the fans of Dark Shadows probably aren't jumping for joy over the comedy. I know I'm not. I'm more thrown than anything...

How big is the fan base? I'd rather grab new fans with the marketing. I wouldn't be too worried about upsetting a small fanbase. No offense meant.

Let's not forget marketing campaigns don't always represent the film its promoting. The fans of the original material need to just go see the film, and decide for themselves what they think rather than getting worked up over a marketing campaign that is obviously not meant for them.

Its cheap recycling of a brand name to sell something entirely unrelated.

Hey lets make a comedy, but to get a bit of extra hype lets grab any old property and slap that title on it so we can get some attention right off the gate!

21 jumpstreet and this are the same situation basically.

What is tim burton thinking? I thought he was a fan of the original

Here is what he had to say about the original:

"“I think,” Burton says in reference to the '60s soap opera, “you could say it was actually awful.”.

Burton never said he had love for the old show. He just liked how insanely campy it was for a soap opera stemmed in supernatural stuff.

Yeah, I know. I don't really care one way or the other. Never seen the original, and can't say I want to. What I do want however is a good Burton film.

I saw that. It's disappointing. I admit, I haven't really watched the show since I was a kid and they were rerunning it on Sci-fi, but even if it's dated and cheesy, I believe the movie should try to communicate the tone or feeling the show evoked. An example is that I never watched Star Trek. As an adult, I tried a few episodes but just couldn't get into the old cheap stilted sci-fi vibe. But JJ Abrams adapted it in Star Trek that both paid homage to the original and reinvented it for modern audiences while keeping the tone of wacky, semi-campy space opera.

This quote makes me think that he may be looking down on the material. The last time he did that we got Mars Attacks! I really hope that's not the case with this movie.

yeah i does look like he is!this looks real chessy and campy like addams family which was a comedy i wanted something more like sleepy hollow with a little camp but still scary.

Yeah I thought he would be good with it because of the dark undertones that Dark shadows is supposed to have which is something that is right up Burtons alley. Ive only remember seeing a few eps when i was younger in scifi (got me exposed to dr who as well!) and the thing could have seemed campy-cheesy because at the time thats the best productions could do and it was a soap opera type but the story itself taken seriously is strong so a modern adaptation would have been good to see. Too bad this got turned into beetlejuice meets austin powers meets the adams family.

haha..most of you in here were probably not even born or were kids when the original campy soap came out and now some of you were actually complaining that this film won't be like the original and some are saying it is a comedy?

Really??
