From CBM.com, apparently Joss helped to cast Thanos:

...director James Gunn headed to Singapore to begin his promotional tour for the upcoming Marvel space opera. Tagging along with him was stars Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista, who all took part in live Q&A; during which, James Gunn discussed working with Joss Whedon on the script. More interestingly, the Guardians director confirmed that "we had to work together in casting Thanos because Thanos is gonna appear in stuff that I do, as well as stuff Joss does." Of course, he wouldn't confirm if it was Josh Brolin playing the purple villain, but it's pretty obvious at this point.

So two things are confirmed there. Thanos is in Age of Ultron and/or Whedon is definitely doing Avengers 3.

Im going for/hoping for the quote is basically saying Gunn will do GOTG2 and Whedon is doing A3.

Im sure Thanos will be in A2 most likely post-credits but I think for Whedon and Gunn to be the two main deciders on the actor must mean right now both are planning on returning.

Yeah, that's what that quote is implying to me as well. I figured Whedon would do A3 anyway.

this finally seems to be a first look at Thanos (on the left)

that does not look like Thanos to me... that guy seems to be blue, not purple...also a make-up [not the same one from Avengers] and not digital [as he has been reported to be in GoG]...

Right there with you man. Apparently there has been some chatter about his looks and voice on Twitter. It all sounded very promising!

Nah not really. Everything was pretty much done except for some dodgy VFX in the 3rd act.

Sounded like Brolin at times but you could feel it was digitized. I agree, I always imagined that he has a deep voice. I guess we'll see how he sounds in the final version.

I don't get why they decided to do him in CGI for the movie, but it worked. The size that he looked when he turned around, made him look like he can take everyone on. He just looked very imposing.
