Coz their are those who think insults are arguments.

When insults begin to go back and forth the way those ones do, it becomes an argument.

I do agree. After all, movie makers should subject themselves to a higher standard of film making other than a higher paycheck. If not then we will see something like the Batman and Robin movie again.

And producers and execs could care less as long as the Batman & Robin type movies pull in the cash.

Yes...Ghost Rider begged for a more mature type of movie...YES I think this movie is a laugh riot...BUT I dont want it to be. If Ghost Rider is going to be a movie for kids, then certainly watchmen should, heck, so should 30 Days Of Night. Swamp Thing was a kids comic, right? Wanted seems to be going the route of being kid-friendly as well...this is about more than money to me. YES I want thge films to be hits...But I want them to be done WELL even more. I would rather Ghost Rider be so good that it got nominated for an Academy Award over it making 100 million at the box office.

The general public looks down on us. They think our interest in comics is stupid. They think comics are all childish...even the ones JUST for adults. The only reason why Crumb wasnt nominated for movie of the year is because it was about a comic creator. You know they literally used that as their excuse. You KNOW that when casting their votes for movie of the year and saw American Splendor on the ballot they thought "I feel guilty not voting for it but its based on a comic and we cant let a comic book movie win". What if we had 10 movies a year that were award caliber??? They couldnt stop us!

Ghost Rider could have been a huge step forward for us as a medium, instead its a huge step backwards.

We, comic book movies, will never be recognized as more than, well, "comics". The highest we'll ever make it is best fx at the Oscars. There's no such thing as an Oscar worthy performance in a comic book movie, because the Academy will only blow us off their shoulder. They look at them as a joke with a few notable exceptions.

Superman: The Movie, had some of the best performances put on screen, The Academy saw it as "decent movie with a guy in red tights".

I think the Spider Man movies deserved an oscar nomination because, of all comic based films, it had the best acting, directing and script. Just my opinion though.

Completely agree. I personally think it had great direction, but what are the chances of it being nominated?

Hey, it's premise isn't completely drama, no award there.

The word "clever" may be relative to the user, however to deem the writing as "clever" is an observation, an observation I happen to disagree with. I see no rebuttal from the poster who made the claim, only from throngs of others who are out to make claims they can't back up with actual evidence. So are you in here to abide by the thread topic or defend someone else's opinion because you can't articulate your own?

I already expressed how I felt about this movie pages ago. If you want to not read it and then assume I can't articulate my own opinion then that's on you. My point is you're being a prick to this guy when all he did was voice his opinion. Don't start getting hostile with me, mister.

He thought it was clever. Whoop dee doo. Dissagree. There is no need for name calling (and don't pull this "I was only asking him if he was ******ed" crap because that is still quite offensive). Maybe where you're from it's this normal, every day greeting but to the other people, it is offensive.

Anyway, my point is it's okay to dissagree. You have that right and it's what this message board is for but unless this guy said all people who disagree with him are wrong or stupid or something I don't see how the insults are justified. Just uncalled for rudeness.

American Splendor was nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards, so you are wrong.

cartoons aare now being nomintaed, comedies are being nominated...Lord Of The Rings cleaned house...even pirate movies are getting respect...if we MAKE GOOD MOVIES CONSISTANTLY we can overcome the prejudice that hold us back, my brother!

Best Picture then.:woot:

Best Picture then.:woot:

After Crumb and American Splendor got robbed (and that isnt fanboy talking...mainstream critics were shocked) the industry is going to have a hard time repeating that over and over...the problem is that we dont get very many truly great comic book movies that often. When a movie like History Of Violence comes out. we ALL need to go see it...to support comic book films. thats why a went to see Ghost Rider...except that Ghost Rider isnt being nominated for anything but a Razzie. If we could get several films a year that are THAT good then eventually we would win the big prize.

huh? You honestly expected GR to be Oscar/ American Splendor worthy???! WOW.

No superhero film will ever get an oscar. Sad, but true.

Sure, AS was based on a comic- but it wasn't a hero movie. It was a drama.

No...not at all...

But that doesnt mean it shouldnt have TRIED to be the damn darn horror/superhero movie it could be.

That would have been an ENORMOUS risk (if you mean rated R horror film). The effects cost lots of money- or I think so- and the audience would be more limited. Thus, a HUGE risk... more "fanboy" friendly- but, the risk?

I mean, this isn't vampires we're talking about... it's a guy with his head on fire. Which costs ALOT more money than vamps ever could.

So, personally, I can see them going with the PG-13 approach.

I gave it an 8. Just take away alot of the camp in the sequel, and it's all good. Plus- FULL demon forms.

Ghost Rider should be nominated for Best Picture next year

yeah, lost me too.... didn't think it was that good.

SM3? Hopefully- but, come on-

Begins would have been the one to be nominated. Talented actors, phenomenal performances that may have been some of the best of that year. And a well known director making a SERIOUS and REALISTIC super hero film.

Film critics and academy? Still "action &/or horror huh? Ha! Not good enough..." snobs.

I think a movie involving horror could get nominated...actions a little trickier but its happened. The Dark Knight will benefit from not having the word "batman" in the title. yes, Academy voters are THAT closed minded. It could happen...its unlikely though.

Pfft, Ghost Rider is by far the greatest thing ever created since Slice Bread. Hopefully, it takes away every Oscar next year like LotR once did

It was so good, it should win best adapted screenplay and best original screenplay.

I would rather have 1 really god damn good movie than 3 mediocre ones.

I can see that, but the studio?

They would rather make money, than possibly loose billions (and yes, I was being sarcastic in the money amount).

Studio politics would have never seen fit for an R due to money loss risk.:cwink:

You can always hook a general audience, then go darker- they'll already be there with the $$$. As long as they just don't pull a Burton (so dark, parents complain and Burton thrown off series)

-------------

R would have been cool, but I highly doubt ANY studio would ever take that risk.

The film was too 'campy' at times, which took it down two points... to my 8/10. But, most superhero first films start out that way and get a million times better with the sequel. Campy dialouge can work, just not when Wes is saying it- Dafeo could have made his lines work, for example... hey, "can Spider-Man come out to play?"

Batman Begins, pretty much, was the first new superhero film to ever get it 100% right on the first film. Just hoping that wasn't just sheer luck and that the sequel will be awe-inspiring a million out of ten... hey, a Bats fan can dream- can't he?

Something about Anonimity seems to bring out the worst in people sometimes.

I've been doing this internet thing for a good chunk of my young life and have decided that if someone doesn't even have a basic enough level of respect to not be a ass while trying to share their views, they're not worth my time. I've got more important people to deal with in my day.
