you can be old but look young

True. Some actors can pass off as teenagers. Garfield didn't. Tobey passed off as a teen better at the same age in SM1.

how many times is marvel going to reboot spiderman

They've only done it once so far. Only because SONY did a colossal screw up of their reboot which was a response to a previous colossal screw up.

realistically tom looks like he still didnt hit puberty

Realistically you don't have the faintest idea what 'realistically' means.

In the end everyone has his own opinion and perspective.

is there a pulitzer for obviousness? Because this man just showed up the other nominees.

Neither of them looked like teenagers, but I never thought it was any more of a problem than in other films with teens.

Holland though looks like he's about 16.

The amount of opinion pieces I have read claiming Tom Holland looks 12-14 years old is ridiculous. I blame all the casting we have had in the past of actors in their twenties and thirties playing teenagers. Guess people have just got so used to it that when a teenager is actually cast in something like this it is a huge shock to the system.

That's the point. They want him to look 16...

Yep, pretty much that. We've never genuinely seen teens playing teens in recent years outside of shows on the Disney channel or Nickelodeon.

Plus he will be 20 by the time they start shooting, and 21 by the time the film is out.

So has Tom Holland been spotted at Atlanta filming Civil War already?

When is he due to be on set?

I think he's still in London. He posted a pic with his dog today.

Just for fun... but I don't remember any MCU actor/actress have that much negative reactions... :).

I've known all along that Toms casting (or any of them really) was going to be met with negativity and skepticism. It's Toms job to change the GA/ causal fans opinion.

I think he will. In fact I think he will kill it.

What is with all the posts about Tom being too ugly, or having an ugly chin/mouth?

The more average he looks, the better!

Isn't that partly what's made Spider-Man so relatable...the fact that he is an 'everyman' with everyday problems (and everyday looks).

Unlike most Superheros (Captain America, Superman, Batman etc) Spidey shouldn't have that action hero 'look'.

When one looks at Peter Parker he shouldn't scream 'superhero', he should scream 'skinny nerd', 'average joe', etc. Peter should look like the guy you always ignored in High School, the next door neighbor you never gave two thoughts about.

Just my opinion but personally I always felt Andrew was a touch too pretty in his Spidey Films.

I'm sure they'll mess around with Tom's look, I just hope they don't try and pretty him up too much, as the thing I always liked about Spidey is that he, more then any of the others... represented the hero that can reside in the average person (even the geek sitting in the corner).

That's largely from KayQ. They've been trying to stir up crap in here for a few weeks now.

This was just a couple of years ago. lol.

I feel no enthusiasm for this movie whatsoever. First they get rid of Garfield who I really liked and then they hire an actor who wasn't my first or even my second choice and finally they hire a director I have never even heard of. The trailer will have to bring me round because as of now for the first time in my life I am 'meh' about Spider-Man on the big screen.

Although I personally didn't like him, I do understand Garfield fans being upset over this. Regardless of that, I think it's just really putting everyone off that we'll have a reboot three years after TASM2.

Personally, I'm just trying to act like TASM1+2 never happened.

At the end of the day, this is happening

As a fan, I wanna be optimistic, but I'm also not gonna blindly accept everything. I'll keep my expectations fairly low for now.

And I mean, it's just a movie. It may not be what our ideal pipedream scenarios were, but thats just how the world works. Gotta roll with the punches and either accept it and move on or just abandon the reboot entirely. Nothing wrong with that imo

The only problem this time is, if it doesn't work out, cinematic Spidey is dead.

People were hating on Andrew too when he was casted. Just wait until the movie comes out and everyone is like "WOW! TOM IS BEST SPIDER!".

I just want to see some photos of him as Peter. If I can have faith in his version of Peter, then I won't be worried about anything else.

Indeed. I'm pretty sure that this is the quickest reboot to ever happen for a big franchise. There's usually some sort of "cool down" period that gives the audience some time to breath and start to miss the series. There was already criticism back in 2010 about TASM rebooting the series, and there had already been a five year long break between SM3 and TASM being released.

Also very true. Marvel and Sony need to nail it this time. Things will not turn out well for them if they fail.

Andrew was too old, Feige wanted a young Spider-Man. There was no way Marvel was going to incorporate TASM into the MCU, too many continuity issues. They wanted a fresh Spider-Man.
