Tom Welling as Superman Manips

What a silly picture to begin with. Really, I'm almost feeling sorry for the guy.. I have yet to see a non-goofy looking picture.

What's that on the middle finger of his right hand? Dirt? A scratch?

As stated, original manip, using the belt and boots. Been at this one for a week. Still need to fix a few things that are a bit off, but I'm happy to post it now. In Wallpaper format not less.

you know, no matter how many times people put the face of Welling with the suit or put the suit on Welling's body, it will NEVER look as good as the real thing. The make-up, the hairstyle and other details will never be good in those manips, all we get is just a small idea of how he can look, i'm waiting for the real thing.

I didn't paste one into the other. I carefully recreated Welling's body/proportions, skinned a new suit created from scratch, textured it, lit it, shaded it, created the cape from scratch....blah blah blah (wasting my time)
Why am I even bothering?

To be fair to what I think KalKai was getting at, I do understand the point - though I don't agree that the manips are bad. As great as so many manips are, and as much as I can tell they must have taken a huge amount of time to do, very few of them look "real." As pieces of artwork, or as concept work, they're fantastic. But it's often difficult to suspend disbelief that you're really seeing Tom in the suit, and in that sense it IS only (to quote Kalkai) "a small idea of how he can look."

I don't think that's disrepectful to the people making the manips. Hell, I've made some myself. Not necessarily very good ones, but that's beside the point...

Speaking of, I made a manip a while back using an image that was rare at the time. It's not rare now, so I can do a comparison of my manip against the original:

That's Tom's body without a single change to it besides a little accentuation of the abs. And I like the big Supes symbol.

That looks pretty darn cool actually... the S is a bit to large but I like the colors...
Make the S a bit smaller, and the red a tab lighter, and it would look awsome!

I had to go find the original to compare because I *knew* that chest looked bigger. Nice job enlarging the chest and \S/.. subtle.

So there are manips of both Welling & Reeve in the Singer suit, and both look good in the suit, and actually make the suit sort of work where Routh fails...
So it's not the suit it's the actor! lol That looks good by the way... good job.

See, this is the problem with putting Welling's head on that body: it just looks bizarre. The manip itself is good - nice work, Mutt!!! - but body wise, he still looks... I dunno, not right.

As we all know, Welling is quite a big guy with a lot of meat on him. He has a long torso that slopes down and out. While pronounced, it doesn't look overly "forced."

He's all chest and has a deep lateral separation between his abs that runs from his neck/sternum all the way down past his navel. Part of that definition would be obscured by the shield, but you would definitely see it between the bottom of the logo and the trunks in a skin-tight costume.

Somebody posted this over in the Supes' forum and a bell went off...

Look familiar? Well it did to me...

Legs seem fine, but his arms are another issue. Welling is no Schwarzenegger, but he does have one helluva set of guns. Even his forearms are big - almost unnaturally so. So odd looking is it that folks have actually asked if he's broken his arm because his radials at the elbow are so wide...

I think the most representative "what-if" manips of Welling are the ones that use his own body, 'cause even if the suit looks odd - be it "painted" on him or a version of the Singer suit - his body still looks right. In short, it still looks like him.

I'm of the mindset that Superman should look BIG. Not body builder big, but just be *clearly* muscular and have a lot of mass. From that perspective, this manip was perfection -- this is what I see when I close my eyes and think Superman...

Yeah the head shot is from the new promo featuring Lana Clark and Lex. The suit looks so much better with higher boots, lower neckline, different belt buckle and a slightly bigger \S/.

It's a manip. the pic they released of this was from his forhead to his let shoulder-ish...dont be so quick to judge. There are just as many goofy pics of welling anyway. and dont think i'm trolling, i wanted welling in the role too, but just try to keep an open mind, guys...

Risky only if you are me I think Someone posted the worst possible promo pic of Routh that wasn't even meant to be seen by the public. Then someone posted a manipped pic of Routh with Tom Welling's head. I'm saying take a good manip with a good pose and leave the suit as is. Then put Welling's head on and see if the suit looks soooo bad

Agreed. Although there is nothing to feel sorry for as this pic was never meant to be released. There are plenty of crap pics that make their way for any project, damn leaking
