Last night, Robert at IESB put out an A.P.B. on me to see if we could figure things out together. From our discussion, it is clear that we have multiple though different sources who are all saying Welling has always been WB's #1 choice and that he has been in negotiations with them as recently as Tuesday this past week. Gough gave an interview to JusticeLeagueOnFilm.com (no affiliation with Batman-On-Film or JusticeLeague-On-Film) and denies everything. He goes on to say that himself, Millar, and even Welling have never been approached by WB about the project. Well, that part is flat false. I know for absolute fact Welling was approached. Did he agree? I was told he did and Gough stepped in. Is it true? My sources all stand by their info, as do Robert's, even after reading Gough's statement. When will WB step up and say something? Hopefully the end of this week.

All I know is that with what I've been told, added to what Robert's been told, plus the siting of Welling in L.A., and how Gough is the ONLY one commenting now (WB and Welling's agent are now giving no comment and directing people to their respective PR depts with interview requests) it seems as though this may be coming to close. Again, 100% positive proof is not available yet. But it sure looks like the odds are now that Welling will be Superman.

I hesitate to even post this, but things got hot and heavy over at CD. I even got sucked into the debate there, and trust me, I didn't want to be. But there's a troll there that's been annoying me to no end and... well... y'all know how I am. LOL Anyhoo, here's Jayne's latest post. Have a Tums people, and buckle up folks:

Okay....I see things have gotten nasty in here again...

Here's the only news I have at this point.

it's The Doctor and Rose kissing in "New Earth". Or rather The Doctor and Cassandra kissing seeing as she took over Rose's body in that ep.

its rose's body, rose's lips its doctor/rose:cmad:

*puts the shipper back in the box!*

Oh, okay....

Gotcha, I never watch that show.

well you should! :cwink::woot:

LMAO!!! Have you been watching the festivities over there too, Hulk? :p

LOL you guys posted the same thing. Hope Welling is Superman!

the problem I have is that the gough statement is so strong. Either its faked and the site is shamed or gough is lying through his teeth and he gets shamed. If this is true i doubt he would be SO strong about tom not being involved knowing he will end up looking like a liar

I totally hear ya. I've been catching flies over that interview since it was posted. I'm torn between thinking it's totally fabricated, it's totally true, and it's totally NDA BS. I truly have no clue, but g'damn, I want to know. NOW!!! LOL ;)

just checked in and saw that. It has gotten pretty nasty over there, that guy from BlueTights is being a real jerk to her... It seems she did have some kind of pow wow with Sanchez. I'm curious to see what his take is since he said Gough was full of it from the beginning.

he's got an out, if he's under an NDA. All he does is use that. Between that and the utter elation of Welling getting to play Supes, no one is gonna care that Gough quashed the idea beforehand.

I've been following the discussion since MSN mentioned Tom's name for Superman in Feb. '07. It has gotten quite heated. All I can say is that we'll all need a drink after all this is over, whether or not Tom gets it.

Sooo... another day of martinis and fried chicken then, yes?

*sigh*

Y'know, mods can do all sorts of nifty things that mere mortals like us peons can't - like check ISP's and stuff. Cool, huh? ;)

I'm *very* interested to hear what Sanchez will say about this now.

True. And you're right - nobody is gonna give two hoots about what Gough said if Welling is announced. But it's not like Gough made a public statement on a "real" news site anyway.

what is this that you guys are talking about?
You ever been to the CountingDown boards, Docker? Kind of a long story. Just go. Read. Catch up on sheet. ;)

"Gotten heated?" It's BEEN heated. Like since... oh... I dunno, 2003 sometime? LOLOL!! Seriously, Welling as Superman is the debate that Will. Not. Die.

Ever. It is what it is. I'm just glad to hear that Warners is trying, even if it doesn't happen.

*sigh*
Tell me about it.

*braBAAAA!*

[another chicken bites the dust]

Wow, since 2003?! If that's the case, I'm glad I've only started to become aware of this casting debate this year. It's been a headache so far... I don't know how you guys have hanged on.

Well, I tell ya - it aint easy. Being a fan is a lot of work. LOL ;)

LOL not who you think it is. This one seems to be from your neck of the woods.
aHAH! Okay. Good to know. :word:

LOL!

:D

Yeah, things were real fun around here just after the Teen Choice Awards in August of 2004. I was still lurking back then since I didn't actually sign up for a login until Sept of that year, but I joined up to defend Welling when it got so ugly.

I'm not sure you really missed anything since this is like "Casting Wars: Part Deux"...

This is like deja vu all over again.

I know this is random, but have anyone here seen the mock JLA movie poster by Alex Ross for Wizard Magazine. It has Tom's name in the credits. :)

yeh only this time welling could actually get the role!

Quoted for truth!

But I guess the big difference this time is that there is no flat-out warfare between feuding camps.

The mods learned their lessons, thus the Thou Shalt not Discuss/bash SR in the SV forums/Thou Shalt Not Discuss/Bash Welling in the SR forums edicts that still linger to this day...

However, from what I understand some pretty serious bashing of Welling still does happen on other forums and Routh/SR disrespect does happen in here from time to time...

*shrug*

It's why I stay over here. I don't need the migraines I get when I see endless fanboys who don't watch what they call "Dawson's-creek-ville" bash Tom.

I had wandered over to the Other Films/DC Comic based films forum (the only place JLA appears to be discussed besides this thread 'round here) earlier today and there was plenty of Welling bashing in there.

And I'm not sure Tom getting the job will make it any better.

There will always be haters but I think it will be darkest before the dawn, when the film finally is relased and people can see for themselves how Tom does in the part...

Short of him totally nailing the role and delivering a perfect, spot-on performance, I'm not sure what else he can do to win some people over to him as Superman.
