Tom Welling as Superman

Rob's reply:

"This is what I was told by a WB source (exec), Welling is going to Supes, I asked if this was 100% and I was told that yes. Last week I was told that something went awry with Welling. I don't know if that has anything do with Gough and Millar not being part of the production or if it was money.

I keep being told that one of the biggest problems that WB is having and something that they don't want to deal with is that the studio does not want to have three Supermans, Routh, Welling and new guy.

Some people at WB think that if Routh is brought back for Justice League it will help reinvigorate the solo franchise. A year later after the release of JL, Singer could come back and do his Man of Steel.

Will that happen? Don't know but I did hear that Routh had a meeting with Dan Lin, I don't know what the results of the meeting was.

Can Welling still be cast for Supes? I was told that it is up to his camp."

I'm VERY confused about the timelines for what he is saying. Is he saying that he was *recently* told that Welling was going to be Supes? Or was that referring to the first time he was told that?

Routh as Superman = very mixed views from fans. No fan can say that hes hated more then hes like. Routh as Superman split the fan base right down the middle & in a way so has Welling. They will never please everybody,

I dont know if Brandon met with Dan Lin but a week, or so, ago there were reports that Brandon met with WB but no one knew with whom or why.

Yeah. The meeting with Dan Lin is quite perplexing.

Dan Lin isnt tied to MoS or SR at all and doesnt represent that faction. If the meeting had anything to do with the sequel; then why was Brandon asked to the meeting alone?

Theres some mad power play going on here.

Exsactly, But Welling hasn`t put the suit on yet, and has a pretty big following, and Routh did star in a movie that the WB weren`t happy with and now they`re trying to restart things.
And I just don`t think that getting the actor from the previous franchise is the way to go.
This whole thing has gone on to far, I wish they`d just get to a settlement already.

On SHH, SH and BT; Brandon dominates over Welling amongst the fans but its likely the opposite on Smallville sites; probably alot of Tom support there.

I didnt expect such a split so soon after he only did one film with about 30 minutes of dialogue... but it happened.

I think the fans could go either way based on how this goes.

Huh.... We knew dan lin had that meeting with Routh from the countingdown lady, but she said that Routh was told that MOS wasn`t happening.

Rob isn't saying either way, he's saying that it is a possibility he was offered a chance to do JLA.

Dan Lin is after all the guy that has been pushing for JLA, so it wouldn`t make sense if he was the one that talked to routh about him being in JL.
I still think it was to Tell Routh that MOS wasn`t happening and that they were going with another superman.

That could be a possibility, but it also could be possible that they met to discuss his possible future as Superman when the talks broke off with Welling. Who knows at this point. I am guessing it will probably be a totally different Superman, not Routh or Welling.

and as for Welling, Even when Robert said that the sources told him that the negotiations were dead. Jayne from countingdown said that they weren`t. So I believe her when she says that Routh wont be in JL.
She seems to have better info than Sanchez even.

Who is Jayne from Countingdown? You believe her over IESB?

There's a lot of people who HATE the idea of Welling as Superman in the DC Movies thread over here. I guess both actors have created a split among the fans.

He's talking about the first time he was told about Welling. If he was saying that he was just told that Welling will be Superman in JL then he would have posted it as news on the main page. Plus before this post of his he said...do you guys wanna know what went wrong with Welling?...or something like that...I dont remember.

If Routh met with Dan Lin then it was probably about JL. I doubt they'd call him in and tell him "Hey Routh. We're making a JL movie. You wont be in it. Thank you". Not saying that they told him that he will be in it but they probably talked about it. Maybe he told him theres a chance he could be in it or whatever.

The thing is, that until we have an official press release from WB then we wont know for sure. I mean, at first Robert was 100% sure Welling would be playing Supes and now he's saying, he wont.

I think he is recapping what has happened. He was told with 100% certainty that TW was the new Supes.
Then negotiations flell through for some unknown reason.
Routh met with WB (possibly to talk about JLA or just to be told MOS was postponed or dead or possibly for some other reason altogether unrelated).

It took me a second as well, I thought he was saying that he was told again that TW was a go.

At least that's my interpretation.

In the Superman forums too.

But I can honestly say I dont want Brandon Routh in this if Christian Bale isnt in this.

It just wouldnt be right.

I hope they get someone new.

I dont really think fans online count as the majority of the fanbase, I just don't think Routh resonated with the general public as Superman, but if he's in JLA, I don't have a problem with it, I won't see it, but if not Tom, then it makes sense to go with someone they've already established as Superman

SH & BT are known for being pro-SR/Singer/Routh, everybody knows that. Nobody kisses ass like they do lol.

Uh? Rob has said that Welling was "completely out of the running" last week for whatever reason, now today he's saying that it's up to his camp, which is what Jayne from CD has essentially been saying all along.

I know, I was just expessing my own opinion on this matter.

Possible... But in all honesty, Sanchez told us a few days back that the negotiations with Welling were dead, and that he was out of the running for superman..
Jayne from Countingdown.com said that it was true that Welling didn`t sign, but that the negotiations were still going, even though the chance for Welling to be in this movie was considerably smaller, she was assured that a last minute deal was very possible.
And NOW Sanchez shows up saying that the negotiations aren`t dead after all.
So yeah, I believe Jayne quite a bit because she keeps saying things that are a head of what Sanchez is reporting.
I just think they have different sources.
I`m glad to hear that welling is still in the running.
I sincerely hope he gets the part.

Bluetights is VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY PRO singer and Routh.

Exactly, she came with this info way before Sanchez was told anything about this.

Yeah.

Rob on IESB also had said earlier it was just 2 execs pushing JLA (Lin and Rubinov) with everyone else on board for S:MoS.

So it seems so strange that someone totally unconnected to SR/MoS would meet with Brandon.

Months ago there wasnt a decision reached regarding MoS or JLA (both were in scripting/pitching stages) so I can understand why they wouldnt want Brandon involved in JLA at that point.

But now that MoS is on the backburner? I dont know..

I dont like it.

& I still say if it is up to Wellings camp they seem HELL BENT on him NOT getting the role so if they have the final say then do not expect Welling in this movie

I think the general public did like Routh as Superman. I believe it were some of the fans that didnt like him. I've asked lots of people (not on the net) what they tought of SR and whether they liked it or not, everyone would tell me "The new guy was great".

Like I said in my previous post, we need an official press release from WB.

Yeah apparently SHH as well. Brandon dominates in all the polls here.

Though the opposite is likely true on K-site with all the Tom support. Smallville fans are a different beast.

I can understand the split between both of them.

JB Rob has just said that Dan Lin is in charge of MoS.

Are you serious? He was against MoS from the start.

He was the sole driving force behind this JL project as an alternative to doing MoS pre-strike.

Why would he be in charge of the opposite faction? I thought the execs behind MoS are the same people from SR.

At the time that SR came out, I had never heard of SV or Tom Welling so I was not responding out of any loyalty other than to the character of Superman but I did not like SR and was not impressed with Routh.

Back on topic, Jayne also said that Welling was WB's #1 choice. Does Tom's camp refer to SV producers or his agents?

Robert said Dan Lin is ALSO in charge of MoS. So, he could be in charge of both? I dont know.

Well he is senior VP so I think hes one of the people who are in charge of all these projects as a whole.

I think in the case of MoS; there are others involved.

But regardless, that meeting could have been about anything, hes right.

It could have been about mos, jla.. or Routh's basketball playing =/

Like I said before Welling is still in the run for JLA. There where some discussion between JLA group and the Smallville group about how they where going to make it work but since they need the JLA movie to keep moving, they have put that discussion for later and have move along with other casting procedures and production schedule. As of now nothing with Tom is for sure but what they say is true they don't want 3 supermen.
