Aye-freakin'-men! With an official announcement, at least we'll all know where we stand and what to expect.

Story and FX are important, but I truly believe casting is the single most important thing in any film of this kind. Anybody with half a brain and one eye would see that. Reference all of the fan-casting threads on boards like these.

More rumors from a random poster at AICN

I leaked all of this yesterday, flame away if you must but those who recall (Abin Sur?) will hopefully vouch for my authenticity. It looks like my contact was being straight with me then in which case I can tell you with pretty much 100% certainty that the Supes casting is between only two people, noone else is in or will be under consideration. I was originally told that WB were going with Eddie Cibrian, a TV actor who I have not seen anything of, but apparantly "looks the part" for the role of Supes. But I can confirm that the only two guys now in the running are in fact Routh (who is more than likely due to be confirmed late next month) or yep, him again, Tom Welling. Routh is keen to keep his role in the movieverse, welling has a few issues that need to be ironed out before he can accept the role. Cibrian is no longer being considered, don't knwo why, anyone with any info on this please let me know. No loss either way So there you go either we get a repeat performance from Routh (which I really do think how this will land) or get to see Welling fly off into the new territory. As before tak from this what you will.

If any real website gets a hold of this and confirms that it's between these two, prepare for World War III. I'll resign my modship over at BT as I have no desire to mediate what's going to ensue. :)

Although honestly, I dont think Tom will do the movie and I cant see Dan Lin casting Routh in his movie, it just goes against so many things we've heard. I honestly expect a new actor.

You know I'm starting to worry about the logistical nightmare it is to get Tom in JLA. If there's a hold up, I'm worried it's the Smallville shooting sked that's the reason. (It was rumored to be one of the reasons Tom gave for turning down McG/Ratner). When initial rumors indicated filming in Vancouver, I thought that it was obvious that Welling would be simultaneously shooting SV and JL. But with the rumor now stating that the pic will film almost exclusively in Australia, I'm not sure it'll work out for Tom anymore. :(

That's a huge concern and I can't see how they can possibly work around filming in Australia.

Sucks. :(

Are you being held to that? :csad:

They can't. Well, I can't wrap my head around how it could work short of giving Welling the time off to do it, hence my point about him needing to leave the SV production for a few weeks. They could do a few establishing scenes for Clark and then insert them into the eps Welling isn't in Vancouver to shoot.

Would they do that? No clue. But they certainly could.

I'm one of the most vocal critics of not-enough-Clark-time on SV, but if they HAD to do this in order to accommodate Welling's schedule so he could do JL, I'd be fine with it. If they pack the episodes with popular guest characters (Oliver, Brainiac/Fine, Supergirl), get the stunt casting machine into full whirl (Sorbo, Slater, Cain), maybe do a Lex/Lionel centric ep, there's no reason it couldn't work.

But y'know what? All this poop would have ALREADY been discussed. Supposedly, this was all worked out a MONTH ago, and then some. Clearly, something else is going on. IF official word comes down from On High that it's a scheduling thing, I'm gonna call BS. Same goes for Welling turning down the role; Sanchez had him all but confirmed for weeks. The young vs. old look for the cast doesn't hold water, and they can't fall back on the "if I do this, SV would have to end" excuse anymore because SV will probably be history post S7. If it goes eight, I'll be SERIOUSLY surprised.

So what's the deal? I just want an HONEST answer. I think fans deserve at least that. "Something happened" just doesn't fly.

Welcome back, Pat.

I couldn't agree more with what you just posted. I'm still holding out for a miracle but I'm also a realist. The longer they delay an announcement the more unlikely it looks. :csad:

Well, if what some random poster over at IESB just said is true, we'll ALL know whether we'll be shooting off fireworks or shooting ourselves in the head come next week. Talk about sink or swim. This is like calling the coin toss for the tiebreaker at the SuperBowl.

I'm gonna be a freakin' wreck.

*sigh*

Think happy thoughts.... happy thoughts.... happy thoughts.... happy....

Imagine if we actually get something tonight before or after the premiere.. I dunno.. maybe a glimpse of Tom in costume? LOL.. I know, that's impossible. :p

Jayne @ CD posted a direct quote from the e-mail she got when asked about Routh & JLA:

"Brandon spoke with WB execs concerning the rumored sequel to Superman Returns about a week or so ago. From what I know of the conversation, he was informed that Justice League had become a priority for the studio and they were officially recasting Superman as a means of separating it from the current franchise. Although the negotiations fell apart at the last second for an undisclosed reason, WB is still very much interested in Tom Welling for the role. The only problem I was aware of during the negotiations is the filming dates for Justice League and Smallville intersect during March and April. I promise I will let you know if I hear anything else, but as of this moment, they do not want Justice League to be connected to any other current franchise. Call me later if you get a second."

I hope they'll find a way to make it work, they can't afford to make a 2nd mistake this time.

^ Yeah, I read that too. Who knows though, right?

Yeah, on SV - right *now* - that's not going to happen. End of the season however...

Seriously though, could this be any more nerve-racking? I mean, jeeze! There's no middle ground on this if all that poop over at IESB is true.

Well, I'm gonna try to get some shut-eye. Hopefully we'll hear something soon, 'cause I'm just gonna rattle myself apart otherwise. Nighters, Kai. :)

If you ask me G & M are going to do everything in their power to stop Tom Welling from being in that movie. The easiet way to free up Tom Welling from Smallville it seems is to just write Clark out for a certain number of episodes & then just bring in Kara or Oliver or both. But I can not see G & M allowing that to happen & THAT is probably where they have the most say & that is what is more then likely holding everything up. The timing of Brainiacs return is interesting though is that just a coincidence ? Who knows

I agree , creative team at smallville could write out clark for a number of shows , bring in Green Arrow etc even make it part of the storyline to search for him .I would love to see Tom in this role as I think it could really work for a more modern take on Superman . I think its interesting that every gengeration has their '' Superman '' or an actor that defines the part for them .

I was and still am a big fan of the Christopher Reeve - Superman films and now I'm a fan of Smallville and of course Toms interpretation of the role .
If its not going to be Tom , I think I'd rather see someone else new to the role playing Supes on the big screen . Anyways I hope we find out soon .

They dont have to write Clark out, they just have to recast him ;) as a baby :D
1 or 2 episodes of Krypton (We can see Brainiac interact with the El family and then him returning to Earth :D

for "pie in the sky" sake...

well they could do a 3 episode arc where Clark has gone into training, have Welling shoot some scenes of Clark conversing with Jor-El, learning about the 28 known galaxies, mastering flight, etc. and then just have those interspersed into 3 episodes that he's gone. That would free up like a 4-5 week window for Welling to go to Oz to shoot some early stuff, then he could come back to film the final 2-3 episodes of SV, and then return to Oz to finish off the JLA stuff.

Well, according to the "Big Fans" doc on the DVD, the showrunners seem to only peruse K-site's message boards. So maybe you should *shudder* venture over there and post your suggestion. :ninja:

Great idea!
I have always wanted them to do a few Krypton centric episodes. But I believe in the past that territory was off limits because of the movie division.

But now that they are going to be showing flashbacks with Lara that means the possibility is open.
Come to think of it since they are going to be showing some Krypton flashbacks that is a sign in TW's favor don't you think?
Since like I said before they were limited on what they could show because they didn't want to step on the movies toes.

That is just my on thought, but it does seem interesting...wonder if it's being discussed anywhere else on the board...hhhmmm

*sigh*

I think this is going to be a very, very long day....

:(

Once again, this could all be settled if they'd make a movie combining the alternate versions: TW's version and BR's version meet up with each other, and possibly with other versions of the character, to fight a greater threat (Doomsday?). I haven't read Crisis on Infinite Earths or whatever it was called, but I'm guessing this would be similar. We'd all get our favorite version(s) and actor(s) and suit(s), and none of the actors would be out of a job.

It sounds like the WB wants the public to forget about Singer's Superman.
