Tom Welling as Superman

What does the writers strike have to do with casting?
Not sure if it has *anything* to do with casting, but they want to make one big glorious announcement and not drag it out in piecemeal. Maybe something *else* has got to do with the strike however, and that's why they're crossing the "T's" as we speak. Who knows?

[chops another chicken to bits, just for the helluvit.]

*Bra-baaaa!*

LOL!!! ;)

i would do that with the chickens but im afraid i would chop off my fingers. i dont have very good luck with knives or cleavers or anything sharp for that matter

I hope you all know that if Tom Welling gets castyou have a debt to the WB to make sure that this movie is a hit. Tom being in this movie is purely something done for the fans. A good movie or a bad movie you have a debt to the WB if Tom is in it.

You don't need anything sharp.

There's always bludgeoning, drowning, burning, and the old fashioned neck-wringing which is just picking one up by it's head and swinging it around until... *snap*.

Lots of options, really.

(Btw...the suspense might be making me a bit loopy. Just sayin') :hyper:

My debt is to Tom who has given me such delight in his portrayal of Clark and the hope of a Superman on the big screen that I can be excited about! The WB is doing this because it will make them a lot of money!!! Period!

Oh ma ga!

"I just got a call that a verbal agreement may have been reached today between WB and Gough and Millar that would allow Welling to make the switch to the big screen. I put in some calls to further confirm it and I'm waiting to hear back. Now this doesn't mean Welling has agreed to anything, but that he isn't being held back from it any longer which in itself is HUGE considering all indications were that Gough was the only problem holding things up.

As usual, I'll keep you all posted...THE WAIT COULD FINALLY BE OVER!! WOO HOO!!
"

I'm not holding my breath. Until Variety, the Hype, or the Hollywood Reporter has a headline reading "Welling is Supes in JLA," it's strictly hearsay.

And are you seriously going to take the word of a forum poster from a site that most people (read: those outside the Hype) have never heard of? :whatever:

I'm not holding my breath.
Why would you? I mean, you clearly don't want Welling in this film or any other Superman film, so anything that's even remotely positive towards that end will get shot down until Warners finally announces the cast.

But hey, look on the bright side - maybe they'll say which decade they're planning to release that other Superman film when they announce JL?

Everybody here is painfully cognizant of the fact that this STILL might not happen. Me more than ever. But it's not going to quell our excitement for what could happen.

It's getting better...

weird, interesting conversation...give me a few minutes
I asked if he could explain this ^

Here's his reply:

well, I called Gough's reps over at William Morris and got to his agent who quickly told me to call their PR department. Normally, and I am just observing, if a story is not true, the agent will tell you that its not true because they would know, since they would be part of the negotiations, but by them telling me to talk to their PR department felt like they are stalling.

I called the PR department and they ask me to send in an email with the request and questions, which is a pretty standard practice, we do this every week on stories that we are working on but this time it really felt like they are just stalling.

Maybe it's nothing, meanwhile we are waiting for a few calls back from friends over at DC and WB, hopefully we find something out tonight.
Wow.

Pinch me. Somebody. Please? :wow:

Argh. Of course, it's Friday night. It seems doubtful that these people work weekends.

Then again.. Saturday would be a great day for big announcement with a full cast to present.

I good to you Jobu. I take care of you. I stick up for you. If you don't make Welling Superman. I say screw you Jobu. I will make him do it myself!!

*cough*

I AM thinking Friday is a distinct possibility however - maybe even Saturday - and here's why. It is my belief that Warners is going to want to make a BIG deal about this announcement. They're going to call a press conference and have Dan Lin and George Miller there. Alan Horn might also be present. They might also want to have the big three there for star power - the actors cast for Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. Ryan Reynolds being such a huge fan favorite might be requested too - if he's cast of course.

Welling is currently shooting SV in Vancouver, so he can't just take off for an hour in order to be present, and his casting would be a HUGE deal if it happens. So Warners might want to wait till the weekend or the days that bookend it (Friday or Monday) in order to allow Welling to be there. Doing this near the weekend eases the burden on the SV production, which needs Welling on set every day if possible.
:D

Just a hunch folks.

I imagine if there were to be a press conference everyone would be there. The director & cast together

Gah! I have to go to a Homecoming game now. Someone email or PM me if there's any *big* news. :D

I think we should temper things a bit. Even if a "verbal agreement" has been reached to effectively buy Tom's freedom, its still going to need to be put in writing, and then they'd obviously have to work on Tom's deal. I dont think we'd hear anything until next week at the earliest

Many movies announce their cast piece meal, but I think it is a good move if WB is indeed going to announce the cast in unison. Similar to what sports teams do when they sign big free agents in the offseason.

The writers strike will have nothing to do with casting, if they want things done in October it is because of the timeline leading from pre-production to production and then finally post. It is a very similar timeline to Superman Returns, Routh was announced in October. :cwink:

"***UPDATE***

So far, two contacts have said discussions have been taking place this week but neither have heard whether or not an agreement was reached, two more had "no comment", and one knew nothing at all. The one who told me I wouldn't like who was cast as Batman or Green Lantern, but didn't mention Superman has yet to return my call.

I did get an email from someone who says Robert at IESB called Gough's office and rather than being told it wasn't true, he was directed to the PR dept which he found strange. So, as I was told he put it, there could be some stalling going on by Gough's people which could be a very good sign. I'm sure one of us will have more news soon.

WOW!

Statement from Al Gough!

http://www.justiceleagueonfilm.com/

"This is utter bull****. We haven't ever been approached by anybody at Warners. This is all utter fabrication.
"There have been many rumors circulating over the past few weeks about Tom Welling's involvement in the Justice League movie," Gough continues. "I can tell you that neither Miles ,myself, nor Warner Bros Television have been approached by WB Features about this film. The last time I checked with Tom's agent, he said they had not been contacted about this project at all. We have a very cordial relationship with both Warner Bros Features and DC Comics, and in all of our discussions over the past few weeks on Smallville business, THIS HASN'T COME UP ONCE. So, there you have it from the horse's mouth--or ass--given some of the message board postings I've seen about myself!"

NDA Spin? Or is he telling the truth? Or did justiceleagueonfilm make that up?
