Tom Welling as Superman

The thing about Transformers' success that a lot of people forget is that it had absolutely nothing to do with its cast. Sure, Shia Lebeouf and Megan Fox got a nice bump in their popularity, but their casting didn't make or break that film.

TF was a megawatt success because of the effects and because it was THE FREAKIN' TRANSFORMERS!! Like Michael Bay's famous t-shirt that read "GIANT F***ING ROBOTS.

My point is that WB took absolutely the wrong lesson from TF. Casting hot, young actors wasn't why TF made tons of money. That, more than many movies in recent history, was sold on the characters and effects. Personally, the best bit of casting in the movie was also the most fanboy-appeasing: Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.

So, if WB wants TF-sized money, they should worry about getting the iconic characters right. If they do that, then they can start printing money.

Good points. I think you're right that casting does seem far more pivotal for this movie than any other. Although, don't underestimate the popularity of Shia Lebeouf. He's well known and well liked by a huge portion of the younger generation that grew up with him.

However, I will say that I went to see Transformers with my friend (neither of us played with the toys, although we did *buy* them ;)). We saw the movie because we heard it had great action scenes and was a lot of fun. That's it.

Seems like the IESB board is now speculating that these actors could be part of a flashback scene/origin scene and NOT the main cast since that emijayne person from CountingDown mentioned a week ago that the main cast has already been hired. Wonder if that makes sense for this script? I haven't read anything about the actual script.

Oh... now that would be kind of cool!

*sigh* I can't wait for us to get some HARD facts about this movie. But, man... TPTB must be loving all this buzz they're getting.

If anything, those two actors became it-boy and girl simply because they were in Transformers.

Shia Lebouf is hot?!

Shia Lebouf is hot?!

Oh yeah. After his surprise success with Disturbia, he caught the attention of Spielberg who cast him in TF and next year's Indy IV. Shia Lebouf is probably the hottest actor under 30 in the biz today.

I cant picture any of those guys as a Superman type but

I speculated about this very thing earlier because its the only thing that really makes sense and adds up to what we have been following.

Unless of course we have just been totally yanked around by false information. :csad:

It's very possible we've all been yanked around by false information. Robert at IESB could have been too.

As much as I like the sounds of these young actors playing origin scenes, this is purely fan speculation and Robert hasn't confirmed a thing. It still concerns me that he got that "weird" email last night that he said makes everything about the movie even stranger. Can't wait to hear what that was about.

I'm not following, Triplet. Is he inferring something by mentioning a competing studio? This whole thing has just been so confusing from day one.

I'm not sure...

The competing studio breaking news for a WB project that still hasn't officially been greenlit might be the other studio trying to make Warner's look bad...

Maybe even derail the production before it starts.

Thanks for clarifying that for me, rumpuso. I misread your post to mean that Robert was saying it.

Actually the movie was greenlit a month ago..................on this very board's front page.

I doubt that these people will be cast to play origin scenes because if you read the the full story they are casting for people to grow into their roles over a series of movies. So they are pretty much doing what they did with Harry Potter cast them young so they could do about 5 movies or more as that hero.

And yet... Miller agreed anyway.

Money talks? Or is he just that confident he can still make a good film with the script and budget he's been given?

Money is part of it, but I think WB conceded on other fronts, adding Martian Manhunter. Compromise.

I would think that if this actor had this type of look this would be Batman

I think it's wishful thinking that DJ could only be auditioning for Batman. He has the look of Superman. It's undeniable.

Singer cited that very same reason for casting a younger Superman and Lois...

...which is pointless if there arent going to be any more in that series...but who knows:huh:

They could still do that with 30 year old actors. In Hollywood even 50/60 year olds look good! A young 20something main cast just changes the whole concept of the movie.

Well that is still up in the air since Singer is still looking to make or start production on Man Of Steel after he finishes up with Valkyrie.

I understand that and fully agree with you which is why I say if these casting rumors are true then it is poor casting. They could IMO cast Routh or Welling and both could provide a series of movies for you.
