The rumor about Hell Boy (gosh, that's taken on new meaning now, hasn't it? LOL) was started by ONE person, who apparently contacted at least two different sites. Every site since then has been regurgitating the same info. Just because ten different sites report one person's info, it doesn't make it true. Naysayers were quick to remind SV fans of this when Sanchez came out with HIS report back in August.
Speaking of which, that news was EVERYWHERE. I remember posting a link to some freakin' product review site that was even talking about Welling in JL. The difference between what's happening now and what we saw back then is that people were actually HAPPY about hearing that Welling would be cast.
Sanchez found out a few weeks after he broke the Welling rumor that Warners was pissed with him, and I don't think it was because he said Miller would direct JL (that rumor was actually broke by Latino Review, which I'd like to point out has said NOTHING about Hell Boy yet.) Warners was pissed with Sanchez because Sanchez went on broadcast television and said Welling would be Superman in JL. Why? Well, either Sanchez stole their thunder, or the actor who WILL be Superman isn't going to get nearly the kind of response Welling did, and nothing the studio can do now will change that. They'll try spreading misinformation so when the real actor is announced it'll be received better than the Hell Boy alternative, but the elation will be over five minutes later when the reality will set back in: Welling isn't in the film.
The irony about who reports what is dripping. SHH JUMPED on the Hell Boy rumor last night, which was submitted by some no-name scooper, yet they ignored the Welling news from IESB's Robert Sanchez? Huh? I thought they didn't post unconfirmed rumors. If I e-mailed SHH and said I worked for Warner Features and have done so for the last three years, and guess what - Welling is in the film, think they'd post it?
Yeah, I didn't think so either.
Furthermore, we've got one report after another about Justice League being IN production and SHH has YET to open a forum for it. Even THE PLANET - WB's unofficial promotion site for all things SR, which the studio supports financially - created a forum for the JL film.
MJZ, thanks for posting all of the Millar quotes and his take on Superman. I find myself in agreement with about 30-40% of his ideas. The rest is far too scary to contemplate. The biggest objections I have is his overemphasis on religious allegory (no wonder he was so into Cavs being cast - I get it now) and the Tarzan/apes analogy. One of the biggest reasons people love Superman so much is because despite his godlike powers, he still wants to be just like everybody else. What "god" wants to be human? Superman doesn't see himself above people and indeed, he longs to fit in and be a part of a world where loving a human woman is natural. Even SINGER got that right. No wonder Millar hates SV.
So on Millar writing the next Superman film, oh gosh, I'll PASS!!! Thank you very much.
