Tom Welling as Superman

It's funny cause I was reading some of the posts there and someone stated that they were a Superman fan but if Routh wasn't in the reboot then he would not see the movie and would be an "Epic Fail". LOL:oldrazz: I found that statement to be filled with Irony.:woot:

If that's "The Question," the answer must be "*****ebag"

This, is the question, bud. :)

There's obviously something wrong with anyone with that kind of stance on a Superman film especially in regards to that boring piece of balsa wood known as Brandon Routh.

Anyone who claims they are a Superman fan but won't see the reboot unless Routh is in it is not a Superman fan, they are just a fan of Routh. As much as I would love for Welling to be Superman, I'd see the reboot if it had another actor, heck even if its Routh. I saw SR 3 times, not because I liked Routh, or Singer (I actually am not a fan of either), I saw SR because I was a Superman fan.

whirl of ideas/rant...

I hope they go back on their word about clark not becoming superman with the new season, for Pete's sake he's working at the Daily Planet now, alongside Lois Lane, plus in all the bios I've read they've been talking about this season being about dual identities... crosses fingers, maybe they'll even spin-off the series and call it Metropolis where he actually becomes supes, that way they wouldn't go back on their word, IDK--end rant

Huzzah.

(That's why I still watch Smallville. :p)

Agreed. My number one choice to play Superman for the reboot is Welling but if he doesn't get the role I'd still go see the movie.

As a Superman fan, I would see the new movie whether it was Welling, or Routh, or heck even if it ended up being Nick Cage. :p

Seriously though, even as a Superman fan, I don't think I can ever sit through Superman Returns again...just like I can't ever sit through Superman III ever again. :(

I'm a Superman fan as well, but I wont support something just because they call it "Superman." I sat through SR twice mostly because I had to check to make sure that the first time I didnt have someone put meth in my popcorn and hallucinate the horror of it all. You can have the suit, the music, and Brando's floating disembodied head but the characterization just wasnt the character we've come to know all these years. Some people I think were just happy to have any superman movie after 19 years, I was hoping for a lot more.

QFT:up:

If I thought something was terrible I would not put myself through the torture of watching it just because It has Superman in it and I'm a Superman fan. That's why I'll never understand why some people feel obligated to watch Smallville when they dislike the show? It's not like there's an obligation to watch anything and everything Superman related if you're a fan. If I don't like it I move on. Simple as that.

She. That poster is a "she." Do the math. LOL ;)

On one level, I understand the sentiment, because if they replaced Welling on Smallville, I'd be gone. Cya. Th...th...that's all, folks. Without question, he's the ONLY reason I'm still watching the show, and it's pretty much been that way since, oh... season four. So for the SR/BR fans, I get not wanting to see a sequel to SR if BR wasn't cast. But not wanting to see a reboot? A completely NEW film with a new cast and new story? If you're a Supes' fan, that just doesn't jive. JMHO.

The thing that bothers me the most about Superman Returns (ok besides the kid). Is the fact that the plane rescue scene would have been the PERFECT way to introduce Superman to the world. From the first blip on the radar, to the quick glimpse by Lois to the stopping the plane in the middle of a packed stadium.

I do so love that scene... man oh man, one of the best sequences in any contemporary superhero film. (IMO).

I'm with you on that one. This season, especially. I still enjoy the show overall, but I can't even imagine it without Welling.

As much as I knew I didn't care for BR's casting in SR, I knew I'd have to see the movie at some point. I'll have to see the next one too, no matter who they cast. Of course, I'll be a lot happier, and see it a lot more often if they don't *&^% it up this time. :D

I saw SR mostly because I was curious if it was going to be as bad as I thought. I hated a lot of it, but there were actually a few good points.

However, some things I had pointed out as possibly causing problems before they even started filming the thing came out as badly as I'd thought.

Recycling Marlon Brando footage?

The kid?

Superman leaving for 5 years?

A man mountain as Perry when they cast a Superman that was shorter and smaller?

A 22 year old, skinny and delicate looking Lois?

Yeah, I saw a lot of that coming and I didn't like it, but I still saw it.

If someone else were cast, I'd probably still see it too.

But it'd be like what I did with SR.

Which I saw only one time.

However, if Tom were cast I'd see it as many times as I could afford and I'd buy the deluxe DVD set too.

I'd also buy any books based on the film, any magazines with Tom on the cover, posters, games, toys, and I'd save my money so I could do the same for all its sequels.

There are parts of Superman Returns that i like , mainly the production design
the farm , the daily planet , the music . James Marsdens character was kind of interesting .

For the reboot , sure i'd go and see it if tom wasn't cast as i love movies and comics .

That said in terms of chemistry between 'Clark and Lois' the last scene from last weeks show was great , Where Clarks sitting on the squeaking chair and how Lois talks to him , the banter etc was great . Tom just has a great look for
such an iconic character .

Well then I guess it makes so much sense why that poster has such an infatuation with BR, it's cause she's a girl.

I hear what your saying with Welling being replaced on Smallville and u wouldn't watch anymore, but that's an entirely different scenario then Routh and a new Superman movie. Like you stated it's a reboot but also Welling has been portraying a young Clark for the past 7 years, it just wouldn't be right to recast his character. While Routh has only been Superman for one forgetful movie. I think if Welling were to be replaced on Smallville there would be alot of upset viewers that would stop watching.

Ahem. [taps glass] Now that I've got your attention, I think we need to liven this place up a bit. :D

Superman is being planned for 2010/11 and negotiations are nearly done for the director, but scheduling still needs to be worked out. JLA is getting a complete facelift as in new director, new cast, and new location. Each solo film will have cameo appearances of other characters to set up JLA for 2012/13. Announcements will be made randomly over the next two months. Why they aren't going with one BIG announcement I have no idea, but whatever. At least we know Singer has been shown the door and something better is on the horizon.

First things first, no director or screenwriter(s) have been hired nor are any in negotiations at this time. Warner Brothers is simply looking at a few candidates as potential “feelers.” Nothing more, nothing less.

*snip*

Regarding the big question of casting before anyone asks, the answer is no: Tom Welling will not be Superman. For some of you, take a moment, and let whatever feelings you have about that out of your system.

The studio isn’t going to spend $150-$200 million (if not more) to produce Smallville: The Movie. Like it or lump it, that’s exactly what it’d be if they went with Welling. Additionally, the failure of X-Files: I Want to Believe this past summer further proved that cult following doesn’t equal mainstream audience. So one can’t argue that Welling would bring in “a big audience” during the opening weekend.

I don’t care if you love or hate the idea of him as Superman on the silver screen. He’s not in the running. Sorry, but it ain’t gonna happen. Get over it...

Something tells me they don't have the same sources. :p

And gosh, I love unbiased reporting. *cough*

I feel like I've seen so many "scoops" like this over the years, that they're just a joke to me now. Blah blah blah, exciting things, blah blah blah, look for the official announcements over the next couple of months, blah blah blah...

2 Months will come and go, and nothing will happen.

The other quote is, at least the first part, more likely, I feel... No real progress, just Warners dicking around.

Sigh. I just really want a new Superman movie.

and yet neither talking head has a source of any kind. It just seems like Jamie is *****ing about the Superman film and putting out his personal feelings as fact...again.
