Smallville Tom Welling - Clark Kent/Superman : The Man Behind The Cape

I think his best performance was in Transference, when he switched bodies with Lionel.

Yeah he was fantastic in that, he really excelled in that

ut.

From what he said above, it basically seem like Tom is saying "they haven't offered it to me yet but if they do, I'd be game." It's not out of the realm of possibility for him to get the offer.

After all, he was offered Superman Returns, which he turned down so that Smallville could continue & so that no one attached to the show would lose their job.

And maybe I'm biased too because I've always been a huge fan of Welling & his Clark Kent/Superman is still my favorite live action interpretation.

Really? wow I never heard any thing about him being offered superman returns.

He wasn't offered Suprman Returns, Henry Cavill and Matt Bomer were next on WB's radar (after Singer's choice of Routh.)

Also WBs we going to wrap up Smallville for the film universe but Bryan Singer convinced them not to as his film was set further down the line in Superman's career.

Yup.

That's definitely among his best regarding "evil" Clark but the episodes with him infected by red kryptonite always stood out to me. Like in season 6 when he totally ruins Lex & Lana's dinner and almost destroys Lex in the barn. Plus he delivered one of my favorite quotes of the series to Lex.

"You can't win. You don't even know the rules of the game."

So poignant considering Lex legitimately had no idea what he was really up against at that point even though he so desperately wanted to know Clark's secret. Loved it.

It would be awesome to see him on Supergirl even if it's not as Superman. Radio KAL suggested he be cast as Ultraman, Tom was always good as the villain so I think that would be great.

Actually I think one of the biggest compliments I can give Tom whether it was as Red K Clark, Black K Kal, Lionel in Clark's body, Bizarro or Ultraman whilst most of them were just evil version of Clark he played every one abit differently. You didn't feel like you were watching the same character everytime.

I want to see him play a bad guy in a CBM lol.

Apparently Welling and Rosenbaum still hang out

Rosey is on twitter @mrosenbaum711 and Welling is on Instagram now @tomwelling

How about that shout out to The Blur on Supergirl?

Well that means SV is in no way connected definitely now because The Blur didn't exist in their timeline.

Course that doesn't mean Tom can't be Superman.

I guess they didn't bring Welling in for Supergirl cause it could have been confusing. I wonder unless he didn't want to wear a Superman suit and that was reason? That was always a rumored issue with Welling, he would never wear a Superman costume.

Now we have Tyler

They didn't "bring in" Welling because they didn't want him, and because he doesn't want to be Superman and dress up. It's as simple as that.

I wonder if he had a meeting or even discussion about it though.

While Tyler Hoechlin is a fair choice for Supergirl, I was always curious why the producers never called Tom to see if he could play Sups. Shame they didn't at least ask, I thought he'd slay in the character.

Everyone seems to think Tom actually had interest in reprising the role, but don't seem to know that he was pretty much the number one reason why we never saw him suited up as Superman on Smallville.

He wanted no part of dressing up to the point where they used a CGI shot of Superman in action, and only zoomed in on his face when he had become Superman. So while it would have been cool to see him come back, aside from the fact that this is a different show/timeline/universe, I firmly believe that there was no interest on both sides.

Agreed, plus Tom has moved on and he played a certain version of the character. It was bets for all to cast someone new.

A Throwback To Smallville Blur,Superman Colors.

Artist Cat Staggs did a masterful job capturing Wellings likeness in her drawings for the Smallville comics.
