Too CGI heavy?

I think some people do not really understand that Superman doesn't do things small. There isn't some nice damage. Metropolis better be left rubble that's how powerful these guys are.

I guess some folks just aren't ready for the real Superman.

I think I'm the only person who actually likes the shaky cam haha

When it works it works. When it doesn't it hurts the action scenes and makes it hard to see. We have people thinking that Superman killed Jax-Ur, for crying out loud!

Then read more reviews. Most of the negative ones I've read make the point at least once that it was mostly all spectacle, no soul. I'd link a bunch for you but I really don't care enough to.

Then don't make such a thread?(?)

Well, I read a lot. I just get tired of reading them because I disagree so strongly with most of them. I'm generally on a similar level with a good amount of critical ratings, but this movie is an entirely different story. Nothing in this movie felt like 56% to me. Or less than 70 for that matter. It's odd.

Faora's fighting was so awesome in this movie. Can't get enough of it.

I agree. It was kinda strange though, did she seem faster than the rest of the Kryptonians? The superspeed effect seemed the most prominent with Faora than with Tor or Zod or Kal .

CGI was good but the colors.... I wish they weren't so dimmed.

The movie split people down the middle. If you liked it, then fine. Don't pay attention to the bad reviews.

A common effect with the shaky cam is to blend live action characters with CGI

She'd be younger and more of a TEASE. Also, Zod is mostly reserved, because he's a general, Tor-An is more of a giant, so he has no motivation to just dart around.

But yes, I get the complaints about the Kryptonians being almost as powerful as Supes. It took 33 years for him to really take off, though it's implied that the earth's ATMOSPHERE gave him powers as well as the sun. Glad the suit didn't make him fly, I'd have left at that point. :D

And yes, it deserves AT LEAST Captain America numbers on the Tomatometer, though initially speaking I think it's quite great, though it doesn't reach the level of ambition I wanted it to.

The shaky cam was so minimal that I didn't notice it after about 5 minutes into the film. The only action bit I felt lacking was the Jor-El fight in the beginning. Everything else played out perfectly fine.

I don't consider a minimal amount of movement in the camera "shaky cam".

Shaky cam seemed like it was a problem for me in the first few mins but I quickly adjusted and once fully invested, didn't notice it. CGI was obvious at times, but that is the nature of it. All of the flying stuff looked great. I think the thing (name escapes me) Superman was trying to destroy looked fake when it coiled him. I could have done with less in some scenes, but overall I expected a lot of CG.

i still never notice shaky cam i didn't notice in bourne ultimatum

yet people act like it gives them motion sickness lol

I notice shaky cam instantly and it annoys the hell out of me. I can't stand any director that uses it and especially the ones who abuse it. The camera was even shaking when Clark and Jonathan were just standing there having a normal conversation. How does shaking the camera add to the conversation? And what value does it add to an action scene or a fight scene? Combine it with hyper-editing and it creates an incoherent mess on the screen.

i didn't notice that man... For me that looks more real...

For me is the best cgi behind avatar... And for one of the most complicated superheroes that has to show face.. That's the point... It looked like real people in every shot...

This isn't about "fanboys" complaining. This is about contributing to a thread that asks "Too CGI heavy(?)" not "Was the CGI done well?"

I agree with you, the CGI is done well, your missing the point from the 'whiners'. They did it well for too long in the movie, there IMO was clearly FAR too much CGI, done well or not... Hence the question in the threads title.

Too much???? He was fighting 3 other Kryptonians!! Not one!! THREE!! The circumstances called for a lot of it! Not to mention the terraformer machines.

Wait who is Tor-An i thought the giant guy was named Namek? Also anybody know the actor who played him? couldn't find anything myself.

Zack Snyder's usually BETTER about keeping stuff locked in. You could see EVERYTHING in 300. He adapted his style, and I feel he isn't fully used to it.

I really liked the use of CG here. It was crisp and clear and when it wasn't it was because Snyder wanted to show these were beings of inhuman speed and strength. Even then I could still follow what was going on speaking for myself. As for the snap zooms? Loved them too. My fear though is that the sequel will not reach the heights of the SFX in MOS because they did have extra time to make them so textured.

I have to agree. She look like the ultimate ***** in this film and was badass.
Even with that she was overwhelmed by an AGM-114 Hellfire missile.

You would think that after the years they spent on Sf/VfX, they have perfected some type of technique by now that can be applied to the next film. Furthermore, there probably will be some new technologies that will improve upon the existing effects. They better, since the audience will be expecting more and better stuff.

Well the turnaround time for a sequel had better be enough. This film delivered on what the visuals for what a god like super human fight should look like. I mean, that sequence going up to the satellite in orbit? Great Rao!

Exactly. There were even a few moments where Faora seemed to blink in and out of existence because she was moving so fast.

It certainly has raised the bar for comic book films and alas, there are a good number of heroes that just can't do what Superman did in this film.

I am also just happy that these effects conveyed how powerful Supes is in comparison to us mortal men. I doubt that the GA would accept a version of Batman jujutsu flipping Henry C. as Superman. They'd call BS big time. As it should be.

^ Tell that to Bruce Timm. He's an awesome creative mind, but that moment makes me cringe!
