Top 5 most disappointing movies of the year.

1. Man of Steel - most disappointment I've felt towards a film in my life.

Sorry to ask you this hopefuldreamer since I'm sure you've already talked about it a lot in the Man of Steel threads. Did you mainly hate it because you're a fan of the comics? I ask because fans of a certain comic property will usually have higher standards for a film based on their favorite or one of their favorite characters and will go over the film with a microscope.

I'm just baffled at how much hate MoS gets. I've read both sides of the argument and a lot of the negatives I just don't agree with.

you might as well just rename the whole thread ''Man of Steel sucks''

Sadly too many to mention, but my top5 let downs:

1. Oblivion - looked good but so slow and bland
2. IronMan 3 - Hard to follow Avengers but still expected more.
3. Elysium - Looked soo good in trailers but by the end just didnt care.
4. Man Of Steel - I liked it but I thought it would blow me away, but alas not quite
5. Kickass 2 - A major down climb from the first, perhaps to be expected.

Haven't seen a whole ton of movies this year. And the top 3 CBMs didn't really disappoint me at all. Maybe the only thing I could mention is that the supporting characters in man of steel were lame. No real stand outs except Russell Crowe. Cavil was a great superman though
Oz was crappier than I thought it'd be. I guess that counts

I hate to go with the consensus, but yeah it is Man of Steel. The big disappointment to me was when I saw Nolan's name attached, it seemed to be a character driven retelling of Superman's origin ala Batman Begins. Instead we got a souless Dragonball Z-esque punchfest, that didn't have anywhere near the heart of either Batman Begins or the Donner version.

It wasn't bad, but it was supposed to be AMAZING and it just wasn't.

Critics didn't like it and i doubt they were mostly Superman fans, even plincket reviews which seems to not give a f*** about superman gave a very negative review of the movie

hopefuldreamer has two account names now? :oldrazz:

Honestly though, sooo many of the complaints were good 'ol fashion nitpicks in my eyes. The one that had me wash my hands of all the critiques was when people complained that Lane got to where Superman and Zod had crash landed just in time to see
Superman kill Zod.

That's because the main complain was that Lois was everywhere, and it was true. And who the hell is hopefuldreamer?

I haven't watched a lot this year. The only disappointing Movie making my list is Iron Man 3.

1. Iron Man 3: great trailers and casting had me excited for a movie that (I thought) was going to raise the bar for superhero and action movies. Instead, it was more akin to Bayformers, played for laughs, toss your brain out the window and strip away everything that makes the hero unique.

2. Man of Steel: how can people take their little kids to enjoy this ultra-violent, vulgar, excessively stark and grim Superman movie? Why would a filmmaker make a Superman movie that's not for kids to enjoy? It just felt wrong to me. There's so much great acting talent and experience here, only to be wasted on bad characterization and storytelling. So many key moments are forced, and ruined. Lots of critics savaged this movie, and deservedly so. This movie ought to have been so much better than it was. They needed somebody on that creative team to put on the brakes and offer some constructive self-criticism.

3. Pacific Rim: I loved it and saw it twice in 3D, which I've never done before. I'm very disappointed that so many people either missed out on something so fun and unusual. I really believe it would've made a lot more money with a more favorable release date.

4. Elysium: I was expecting more. I wanted to see it break away more from the typical action hero movies I've already seen before. It wasn't bad, it just left me feeling unsatisfied. It has its moments, but it felt like a missed opportunity to do something more engaging and memorable.

5. The Lone Ranger.

1. Star Trek Into Darkness - I absolutely LOVED ST09. But this just felt like a sloppy thrown together by-the-numbers sequel. The first one grabbed you by the neck and dragged you along this one for me took a long time to get going. Cumberbatch was also very underused. I expected a lot more after a 4 year wait.

2. Iron Man 3 - I loved the first and even liked the second but I HATE this film. It's so stupid at times and it had many moments that really took me out of the film. I could rant about this film for a good hour.

3. Pacific Rim - I was expecting a lot more. The fights and world is breathtaking but some of the dialogue was just ****poor and there is a long time in the middle where not much happens. If this was just another humdrum blockbuster I probably would have let it go for these faults but Guillmero Del Toro at the helm I just expected more and came away unsatisfied.

4. Kick Ass 2 - I still really liked this film but it does not hold a candle to the first. The fights, score and all round fun factor were not as strong this time round. It was just all a been seen before as opposed to the freshness of the first.

5. Trance - I was tip toeing between a couple but ultimately I decided on this one. I really love Danny Boyle's work even when it's poor as each film is completely different to the last and IMO you have to admire that. The trailers for Trance were brilliant but I felt the end product was very lacking in some areas compared to other Boyle works.

The poster that I originally quoted and asked why MoS was a disappointment for her.

Elysium was massively disappointing to me. Concept was great and it could have been a true game-changer, but instead was essentially a heavily cliched "superhero" film. Infinitely less entertaining/exciting than both MOS and IM3, in my opinion.

you might as well just rename the whole thread ''Man of Steel sucks''

or "Iron Man 3's Mandarin twist ruined a perfectly fine movie because I've been a massive Mandarin fan of his since forever never."

Oh, and Kick-Ass 2 for me. It was the biggest letdown of the summer for me. I liked it, but I do fear that when I see it again, I'll wind up not liking it. :csad:

This might sound stupid considering the first film but Kick Ass 2 felt a lot more ridiculous. I really liked the first half of the film but when "sick stick" came in I was pretty much like "I'm out!!" such a stupid idea.

Honestly, nothing's really dissapointed me. I've liked every flick I've seen.

I'm generally a pretty positive guy and I've been really happy with 2013, but here goes nothing;

1. Parker. This is the only one I'm actually upset of angry about. The books are great and Jason Statham actually fits the character perfectly, but the film got just about everything wrong. Instead of being a hard-boiled noir about a cold hearted shark, it's a fluffy romantic comedy about a thief with a heart of gold.

2. Star Trek Into Darkness. JJ directed the hell out of this flick. On a technical level it was fantastic, the actors all delivered in spades. But the script was beyond terrible.

3. A Good Day to Die Hard. I actually had fun with this, on a certain level it was so bad it became really enjoyable. But that's not what Die Hard should be.

4. The Hangover Part III. It was ok. But if they'd recast the three leads and made it about a team of thick headed thieves who knock off a drug dealer and things go terribly south and gotten say... Jet Li or Chow Yun Fat as an eccentric Chinese gangster instead of Ken Jeong, I'd say it could've been a very strong action comedy.

5a. Elysium. I actually loved this. It's in my top 10. Could've used a little less shaky cam is all.

5b. Man of Steel. I also loved this. It's my number 1 so far. Just that Zimmer's score during the action was too loud and became mere noise rather than music and in hindsight, I wish they didn't kill off Pa Kent. His death didn't really affect the story as much as it should've and it would've been good to see Pa and Clark both get their wishes granted because he'd keep his identity a secret.

The Wolverine and The Hangover 3

I thought Star Trek:ID and Pacific Rim were the best movies of the year by far...

I liked Elysium but I was expecting it to be more epic. It felt like it should have been longer and everything needed more development.

Also, I hate to say this, but Jodie Foster was not good. She just wasn't.
