Total Recall (Remake) Ok I'm against this one!

I agree that planet of the apes was pretty bad but, I thought War of the Worlds was okay.

Visually and the sound wise War of the Worlds was great, the thing that I thought was bad was that the movie seemed very hokie and picture perfect, but the story was written with a lot of christian ideals built in hence the happy ending. Had it ended a bit more darker or where the son died it would felt overall complete unlike the happy ending did.

I wish they would have just remade the original film or went with the book idea and had it take place in the 1800's. IT was nothing but a Tom Cruise film.

Total Recall is the best Arnie film in my mind, a remake is just another example of Hollywood trying to kill cinema.

It's too soon for this one. I'd be ok if it was 30 years later on this particular film. My second favorite Arnie flick is Predator.

It just doesn't need it, there's so many books that can be adapted that are as of yet untouched, there are so many great idea's and suchlike out there to be made, this is why Korean cinema is the fastest growing, because it's original and about the quality, not the money, hell it's now the 3rd biggest cinema industry in the world.

Really? Well bring on the Koreans.

1-bollywood
2-hollywood
3-korea

This is the top three of cinema industries in order, the top two are depressing, but three is looking good! They don't have the marketing power or anything, it's all about the content produced etc, having produced many contemporary masterpieces as a nation, that surpass all other countries for sure.

Well being in the UK I have seen a few Bollywood movies and I still do no really get it but they must be doing something right.

It's all about the home viewing figures, every film out there gets massive viewing figures, it's like the golden hollywood age still.

Yea it really was just a cruise flick. I remember reading the book and just feeling hopeless. With the movie you never really felt that way, it felt like cruise always kept a safe distance from the danger.

wtf! this is the first time i hear about this.
This is, for me, a classic, it's a movie i grew up with. It's my childhood. And now they wanna remake this.
I can swear that "oh noes, a remake!" is my tagline this year

with some of the arguments on here, why not just re-make casablanca?
people don't like watching black & white movies, right? why not remake "what a wonderful world?" or "citizen kane?"

Why not remake "the terminator?" with todays CGI effects, I'm sure the endoskeleton at the end could look much better....why not remake "Aliens"...again for the same reason, or Back To The Future...I mean, hey, it's almost 20 years old!

You can quickly see that those kinds of arguments are void. Films which are so recent should not be remade.

Granted Total Recall isnt held in the same regard as those movies I've just mentioned, but still. Total recall does not need remade, because it is a seriously recent movie starring two actors who are still very much in the public domain. its insanity. 20 years from now...well then, fair enough...but this recent trend is seriously worrying and most of these remakes are quickly forgotten compared to the classic originals.

I mean, whose talking about the texas chainsaw remake these days? no one. Will the Total Recall movie be any good? maybe...but I bet you it won't have the same balls as the original.

I know that there is an argument for a remake, due to the fact that the movie strayed from the phillip k dick book so much, but can they just call it something else for a change?

ugh. The EFNY remake depressed me enough. Cinema is dying people.

The terminator franchise is still going. If there's a demand for a certain film to be remade based on video rentals, sales, or whatever...then there's a good chance it'll be remade. I doubt there's demand to remake the films you mentioned.

Cinema is dying just like rock is dying people have been saying that for years. Where truth be told its not, looking back sure it looks that way cause people only remember the good films that have stood the test of time.

Actually Im almost positive its a wonderful world has been remade granted a made for tv movie.

Back to the future, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, and Aliens are pinnacle movies of their genre's, masterpieces if you will. Masterpieces can still be remade as well but the bar is much higher, because creators know how difficult it would be to top it. Seven Samurai was remade into the magnificent seven, which was also remade but the name escapes me.
Magnificent was just as good as Seven Samurai was, but not as pivotal due to the times they were released and Seven being an asian film breaking into an american market.

I seem to remember they wanted Richard Dreyfuss for the role of Quaid originally.

Jeff Bridges and Patrick Swayze were both considered as well.

that being said...i would like to see a more average looking guy in the role. someone who doesn't stick out so much.

Stop saying that TR hasn't aged well! The movie is better than any movie coming out this day and age, and that is why they want to remake it! The only thing not aging well is the people who think this is a good idea!

I've gotta say it...i'll probably get flamed...but...

Jason Statham

okay, i'll stop saying it hasn't aged well...

...it's aged pretty badly.

The movie is better than any movie coming out this day and age, and that is why they want to remake it!
yes...Total Recall was better than Lord of the Rings or the Dark Knight could ever be. :whatever:

The only thing not aging well is the people who think this is a good idea!
normally i'd say that you should stick to arguing the subject instead of attacking those who have differing opinions, but your arguments aren't very good either.....so it'd probably be better if you not post in this thread all together.
