I agree that planet of the apes was pretty bad but, I thought War of the Worlds was okay.
Total Recall is the best Arnie film in my mind, a remake is just another example of Hollywood trying to kill cinema.

It just doesn't need it, there's so many books that can be adapted that are as of yet untouched, there are so many great idea's and suchlike out there to be made, this is why Korean cinema is the fastest growing, because it's original and about the quality, not the money, hell it's now the 3rd biggest cinema industry in the world.
1-bollywood
2-hollywood
3-korea
This is the top three of cinema industries in order, the top two are depressing, but three is looking good! They don't have the marketing power or anything, it's all about the content produced etc, having produced many contemporary masterpieces as a nation, that surpass all other countries for sure.
It's all about the home viewing figures, every film out there gets massive viewing figures, it's like the golden hollywood age still.
I wish they would have just remade the original film or went with the book idea and had it take place in the 1800's. IT was nothing but a Tom Cruise film.
with some of the arguments on here, why not just re-make casablanca?
people don't like watching black & white movies, right? why not remake "what a wonderful world?" or "citizen kane?"
Why not remake "the terminator?" with todays CGI effects, I'm sure the endoskeleton at the end could look much better....why not remake "Aliens"...again for the same reason, or Back To The Future...I mean, hey, it's almost 20 years old!
You can quickly see that those kinds of arguments are void. Films which are so recent should not be remade.
Granted Total Recall isnt held in the same regard as those movies I've just mentioned, but still. Total recall does not need remade, because it is a seriously recent movie starring two actors who are still very much in the public domain. its insanity. 20 years from now...well then, fair enough...but this recent trend is seriously worrying and most of these remakes are quickly forgotten compared to the classic originals.
I mean, whose talking about the texas chainsaw remake these days? no one. Will the Total Recall movie be any good? maybe...but I bet you it won't have the same balls as the original.
I know that there is an argument for a remake, due to the fact that the movie strayed from the phillip k dick book so much, but can they just call it something else for a change?
ugh. The EFNY remake depressed me enough. Cinema is dying people.
I seem to remember they wanted Richard Dreyfuss for the role of Quaid originally.
Jeff Bridges and Patrick Swayze were both considered as well.
that being said...i would like to see a more average looking guy in the role. someone who doesn't stick out so much.
okay, i'll stop saying it hasn't aged well...Stop saying that TR hasn't aged well!
yes...Total Recall was better than Lord of the Rings or the Dark Knight could ever be.The movie is better than any movie coming out this day and age, and that is why they want to remake it!
normally i'd say that you should stick to arguing the subject instead of attacking those who have differing opinions, but your arguments aren't very good either.....so it'd probably be better if you not post in this thread all together. The only thing not aging well is the people who think this is a good idea!
I've gotta say it...i'll probably get flamed...but...
