Toy Story 4

I am assuming he means in regard to overall franchise quality. I didn't see Cars 3, but I am guessing he thought it was not up to par.

Coco and Inside Out both won Oscars for Best Animated Feature and Finding Dory grossed a billion worldwide...how in any way, shape or form is Pixar dying a slow death?

Not Pixar, just that particular franchise which, in my opinion, was particularly weak anyway. How they dragged it out for 3 films is beyond me.

It was just pointless sequel making at this point.

I hope it's not Bo Peep getting stolen by a female toy collector this time.

Perhaps she runs away because she doesn't feel wanted.

Oh, gotcha. For what it’s worth, as mediocre as Cars 3 was, it’s still miles better than Cars 2, which is still the only stain on Pixar’s record IMO.

I quite like Cars 3. I feel like it was easily the best of those films, and an actual good film imo. I have it easily over the first 2 and the Good Dinosaur.

There's a few Pixar movies I need to catch up on and rewatch. The Toy Story trilogy is arguably one of the greatest trilogies ever.

If the 4th one can maintain that quality than I'm all for it but I don't think we need it.

But isn't it fair to say we didn't need Toy Story 2 or 3? Because that was the argument with both of those films. They were not necessary. Which of course none of these are, but I do think it is fascinating this seems to become the argument every time there is a Toy Story sequel coming out. And then after they come out, they feel essential for most.

You are correct sir. All sequels are unnecessary. But if they advance the story of the original and can add to the story, then they become necessary.

Even a Titanic II could be a good idea with the right story.

I want to see Titanic II so bad now.

Maybe they're waiting for John Lasseter to come and save the day.

I'm agnostic on the TS4 front. I do miss the characters and I'm sure seeing them in another movie again would be entertaining at the very least.

But if it turned out mediocre, I'll definitely wish they could've just left it as a trilogy, as it ended about as perfectly as you could hope for and felt like a real completion of themes the series had been working with from the beginning.

Good point, yeah. I think a 4th film is usually even less necessary than a 2nd or 3rd film though

Toy Story 4 existing I am okay with. It's not going to retcon or devalue Toy Story 3. Toy Story 3 was the conclusion to A story, but it doesn't mean there is not room for other stories to be told outside of Andy and the relationship to his toys. Toy Story 3 is probably my 1st or 2nd favorite Pixar film (either that or Wall-E). But, my love for Toy Story 3 will always be there. It will have the same meaning. Whether there is a 4th film or not.

How are they going to do TS4 without Don Rickles? You could get away with a Jim Varney soundalike for Slinky since he was never a major character, but Potato Head was one of the more active characters.

I don't need to see more, but if they are going that way:
I'd like it if they re-introduced the outrageous Spanish-Buzz mode: AKA "El Buzzo"..."The Astro-Nut"
Although this time as an actual separate character default set in that mode, voiced again by Javier Fernández-Peña.
Maybe paint him a different color scheme (instead of green-purple as red-yellow)

See Jessie cautiously contain her enthusiasm when he shows up :woot:
And have Buzz be like- who the heck is this guy?

Does anyone know (or have any link to a description) what was shown a couple of days ago in CineEurope?

The Tim Allen and Tom Hanks comments makes me worried that somebody is going to die.

Or just be separated again.

If it's real time Andy has to be like 30 though.

The first would be repetitive and therefore not impactful.

Then again, the actors could be lying about how emotional it is... I just don’t see how anything can be more emotional than Toy Story 3.

There's a rumor that it may feature Andy's dad, who may be estranged.

Hmm, it might deal with the fact that Woody was Andy's dad's toy before he was Andy's.

I still have no idea how they're going to deal with the fact that Don Rickles isn't around to voice Potato Head any more. They could get by with using a soundalike for Slinky since he wasn't a major character, but PH was one of the top five or so. They can't really make the movie without him.
