See Hollywood has us ( or should i say some of you) all brainwashed, into thinking we need a 'window into a world we might not necessarily know'. We need to see the TF's through the eyes of someone else.
I think they needed to take that approach with the first film because they had to introduce what is, when it comes down to it, an absurd concept to the general audience. It helped ground the film. And while I believe that in TF2, the Autobots and Decepticons definately need to be developed more as characters, I don't think it would be wise to completely disregard the human perspective.
