My soul just died a little.

the action was good in TDK but in noo way big enough for the budget and summer.

TDK was released in the middle of summer -- July 18 -- and it had a big enough budget to play with the big boys ($185 million plus P&A). The director opted for more practical effects to maintain realism, while the CGI in TF is overkill (no thanks to Bay).

Again, I maintain that TF-2 will definitely have a big opening week, but on the second or third weekend it'll probably have a 60% or more drop in revenue. $300 million domestic is a lock, but poor WOM will keep it from reaching $400 million.

batman should have more grounded action. and TF should have action like it has

And again, that's where some of you are off base. Where are you getting this bad WOM information from? There have been crowd reports posted on a dozen sites that are saying audiences are eating it up, very much like Dead Man's Chest.

Exactly.

dead man's chestt didtn have tons of action. you pay money for TF and you get something for this money.

The action is indeed glorious. The final just dragged.

There is no bad word of mouth, except among critics and internet fans. Everyone else is going because it's Transformers.

Everyone at school was talking about it in class today. They all loved it.

the last time i saw so many people in my theater was with TITANIC.

It probably doesn't showcase its action as much as Transformers does. And Quint from AICN wrote that the IMAX-switching is used better in TDK. But I haven't heard any complaints about TF2's schizophrenic IMAX-switching so I guess the effect of the aspect ratio changes have been greatly overblown from the beginning. :oldrazz:

I should just flip this soul-crushing thought around and consider it amazing that TDK did as well at the theaters as it did, if the major requirement to breaking box office records nowadays is being a $200-million brainless blow-em-up action movie with hot chicks opening in an empty marketplace. :funny:

Okay, that's the part that kills my soul.

Actually people liking DMC already killed my soul, this is just the coup de grace. :o I did see that one in theaters and thought it a complete waste of my time and money.

Depending on the drops, this could have a chance at taking down TDK's 5-day record. This is insane, people are just hankering for some brainless summer fun, and are willing to shell out cash to do it.

60.6 million on a Wednesday is mindblowing. Had this opened on a Friday, it would've aced TDK's opening day record.

It would have been much closer (uncomfortably so :funny:), but the very maximum that it would have done during the day, I'd estimate, is $50 million. TDK, without midnights, came out to $48.5 million, so I'm giving it a little room with inflation and IMAX prices.

That brings the total to $66.6 million. (LOL, doesn't that look ominous..) TDK's OD was $67.2 million. Close, but no dice.

Of course, this is assuming the midnights would have been the same. Who knows, really. :funny:

It's a fairly crapshooty game to play, but I see what you're saying. The thing is, think about all the people who didn't see the film on Wednesday because....well, it's a Wednesday.

Friday and Saturday are going to kill. Mostly because a lot of people don't go during the week, they wait for their off days, and some will be dragged, others will go see it multiple times.

He means the internet people. Not the average movie going audience, who's not biased like everyone online.

I saw it yesterday in a full crowd and they loved it and clapped at the end.

TDK's records are all safe, but the setup for TF2 is absolutely stunning. It'll kill over this opening 5 day frame, and then it has the luxury of a July 4th weekend in its second week.

It has a very realistic chance to be up near $300 million by the end of the next weekend. Even if it crashes and burns from there, it would still coast its way to $400 million+

I suspect the ads will feature that voice clip of "it's an ass-whoopin'" when they call this the number one movie in America.

I doubt it'll hit 500m but 400m is definitely open

Well, I'm not sure how many over 25 would have cared between Wednesday or Friday. Do we know the major demographics of TF2 yet? I'd wager it'd be males under 25, and they don't have school right now.

There's a reason why Paramount chose to stick with a Wednesday opening vs. Friday opening: to take advantage of the school-free weekdays.

The release date was indeed brilliant, especially the fact that no other blockbusters action movies opened in June. Michael Bay had better be thanking them this time. :funny:

It completely sold out at the thearter I went to yesterday and I imagine it'll do the same this weekend...going to see it again maybe tonite or this weekend

TDK was a much better film than this regardless of BO total, we should all know never to judge a film by the money it makes, that isn't to say I don't love this candy popscicle of a film, but its legs are not going to be that big, because I am pretty sure legs are due to a great story
