Sci-Fi Tron: Ares with Jared Leto

So maybe in 20 years they will do it ;)

Cryogenic freeze doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot right now. It's been over six years since Legacy. Disney has no reason to make a Tron 3 right now.

Look, never is a long time. There could very well be a Tron update 10-15 years from now. But by that time, would Tron Ascension even be valid anymore? The stars aren't going to stay in cryogenic freeze either, even if the movie does.

If they ever move forward with a sequel they need fresh blood. I absolutely love what Kosinski did with the visuals, but the movie's story and characters don't hold up in repeat viewings. Keep Kosinski as a visual consultant but that's about it.

Disney Wants to Reboot ‘TRON’ with Jared Leto

Earlier this week, we reported that TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski said a new TRON film was in “cryogenic freeze” because Disney was so rich with other tentpole features from Marvel and Lucasfilm. It wasn’t a matter of “never say never”, but the third TRON movie, TRON: Ascension, was stuck in development hell, which was a shame since it sounded interesting. Kosinski told us that it was an “invasion movie” that would take place in both the real world and The Grid.

But now it looks like Disney is still very much in the TRON business. THR reports that the studio is looking to reboot the franchise as a starring vehicle for Jared Leto. Leto is circling the project, and if he signs on, he would also produce alongside producing partner Emma Ludbrook as well as TRON: Legacy co-producer Justin Springer.

No screenwriter or director is currently involved, but Disney plans to use the script for TRON: Ascension as a starting point. Per THR, “Leto would play a character named Ares, who has not appeared on screen before but was a key player in that script.” It’s unknown of Kosinski or any actors from TRON: Legacy would return for the reboot.
It’s important to keep in mind that while TRON: Legacy struggled to be the worldwide phenomenon Disney wanted, it’s still a valuable IP for them. They also own it entirely, which means they don’t have to split profits like they do for something like the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. It seems like the studio believes that if they can just crack the story, peoplepeople will come rushing into the film’s digital world.

That being said, I think they’re drastically overestimating people’s opinion of Leto if they think it can be a star vehicle for him. Dallas Buyers Club was supposed to be a restart for the actor’s career, but he drew negative reviews for his only movie he’s done since then, Suicide Squad. Perhaps he’ll have a more successful 2017 with roles in The Outsider and Blade Runner 2049, but it seems risky to hang the TRON franchise on his popularity.

Okay..what the heck.

I thought that the third Tron didn't go because the second film didn't make a lot of money. I'd say even the soundtrack is more known than the movie itself.

So they're canceling that..to reboot it. How does it make sense? That's weird.

And is it really a reboot? Or a soft reboot?

Jared Leto Circling 'Tron' Reboot at Disney (Exclusive)
After cancelling a third installment in the sci-fi franchise in 2015, Disney is exploring the idea of a movie that would act as a Leto vehicle.

Borys Kit said:
Sources say this new project is not a direct sequel and is being built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script. Leto would play a character named Ares, who has not appeared on screen before but was a key player in that script.

I can only figure that this takes place in the same time ine, but they're re-wiring the plot from Tron 3 (which supposed to take place in our world, with an invasion). Kinda like pulling an Alien Covenant, in which I'm convinced wasn't the actual plan for Prometheus 2, but more of a reaction..

Or a Pacific Rim 2, which I'm convinced that DeKnight wanted to start anew from Del Toro's original plans (I'm only guessing).

Just my opinion... but if Jared Leto is the star of this it would drastically reduce my desire to see it  Really not a fan of his

I find value in the Tron movies. It would be a waste to just redo it all especially with the design work in 'Legacy'. That's why I think it'll take place in the same universe but now, it'll take 20 years after Tron Legacy or whatever.

It wasn't until his Joker, where I was like 'eh, I'm over him'. I liked his past work but yeah. But I think a lot of studios think of him as a Johnny Depp type. And they're trying to market that.

What in the f***?
Nothing against Leto. I like him but why reboot. I usually don't care about complaining about reboots but this makes no sense to me at all why scrap a 3rd installment just to announce a reboot so soon?

If you're gonna reboot Tron, you have to at least go with leads who are at least 20 years younger than Leto is. I could see Leto as the villain , but as a younger Flynn -type lead of an ongoing potential franchise , not so much.

They should go with a millennial cast .

If they want to use Leto, I just don't see why they don't just make Tron 3 with the rest of the existing cast which is around his age anyway.

The storytelling in the second movie was very amateurish. I rewatched the movie last month. I forgot how many ''weird'' moments the movie had in the Tron world. I liked them a lot.

Enough with the reboots damnit. Just continue on from the second one. If they don't like the current direction of Tron 3 (with the digital people coming to our world) just have the movie play out in Tron-world again with a different set of characters but still in continouity with the previous movies.

With Leto, its' the case of him playing younger. Like him or not, he looks damn good for his age. I know he's vegan, but he's using fillers like Botox or had surgery, he's able to do in the most smartest ways it seems. I'd say he looks like he's around 30-34 at 45, which may fit the millennial bill.

Leto is so love or hate him though, not someone you try to rebuild a franchise around.

Couldn't be riskier than building one around the instantly forgettable Garrett Hedlund.

Count me as another who thinks it's pointless cancelling the 3rd movie just to reboot the whole thing.

I agree. The big difference is that Depp is likable. Leto isn't. He comes off as a pretentious ass. Not to mention a massive attention ****e. "Did you hear that I sent used condoms to people!? Aren't I a crazy method actor just like Heath Ledger was!? Please pay attention to me!!!!"

Leto's a great actor but nobody ever says they're excited about the next Jared Leto movie.

Reboot? AND Jared Leto?

Hey, I like Garrett…
I don't dislike him, but he was completely overshadowed by two different versions of Jeff Bridges and Olivia Wilde in Tron Legacy.
