Tron Legacy Sequels

I think WB's version is more likely to flop, I have no idea why they decided to do that film.

I hope they both do well, but personally, I'm actually more interested in WB's Jungle Book: Origins. Serkis, Bale, Blanchett and Cumberbatch? Yep.

Serkis' is probably gonna be darker, whereas Favs is going to take cues from the animated version because frankly Disney will want to cash in on that nostalgia. I suspect the kiddies will dig the latter.

Yeah they were getting close, the cast were pretty much back. I don't deny Tomorrowlands performance was a factor, but it is a stupid one if true. Torn has a built in audience already and possibly even more fans by now. I never saw Legacy at the cinema but wouldn't miss the next one, and I am sure there are others who were in the same boat.

Tron: Legacy was a modest success. I don't think another Tron would have fared any better, honestly.

I agree with you but I still don't think the film is going to be monetarily successful.

Completely agree with you.

If it's a Mirror, Mirror and Huntsman scerio, then I think studios will kinda win. Those two Snow White movies were so different. And dare I say, Mirror, Mirror wasn't that bad. In fact, it was better than The Huntsman.

All I saw was Lily Collins and Kristen Stewart in those mini disasters. :funny:

let's be honest.Tron is victim of disney owning marvel and lucasfilm.

I agree another tron was unlikely to do better than Legacy although disappointing it's not happening.

Disney is more likely to do live action versions of all it's animated films than original films like tron.

Tron is a victim of Kosinski making a mediocre second film. You can't do that withotu a household name like Star Wars or Marvel. Tron ain't Batman, and even he disappeared for a while .

Agreed. They resurrected the series with a fairly boring second entry into the series. I know Tron has a loyal fan base, but that loyal fan base still yielded a moderate success. I really don't think a 3rd Tron film would have performed anything but the same as Tron Legacy did.

The big thing here is merch. Way more then the box office. They tried to sell Tron to kids with the toys and tv show, and it apparently did not work. If they sold toys the way Cars sell merch or Frozen sells merch, there would already be a new one. That is where Disney makes its real money. Not the box office, but the merch. Imagine how much Star Wars stuff they are going to sell this years. Toys, books, comics, backpacks, grown people pjs, etc.

Disney does do passion projects, but they have to have passion for it. Mainly by way of a director they believe in. That is what Tron Legacy was. It didn't work out.

Yeah it's probably gonna do the same amount as the last film, and won't earn Disney a proper profit. I'm glad that Tron Legacy exists though.

Same here. If just for Olivia Wilde and that score. Also, to see a proper grandpa Jedi.

100% true. They pushed Tron VERY hard when the movie was coming out. Toys, cartoon, ads, etc. It just never took off. Especially when you consider this was the first big 3D event after Avatar. It just didn't take off like anyone wanted.

Meh. I'm glad they tried, but was underwhelmed with the product itself.

My main problem with Tron Legacy is that the Grid (or whatever you call it) got smaller and just became one city. The first movie's grid was an actual world within a computer. So that was a misfire.

Also the first film, while it's not perfect, had more of a sense of humor.

And while I did like Olivia Wilde's character, but it's upsetting that they didn't use her properly.

Too be fair, that was actually Alice. Though no one saw that coming.

I went to Disneyland either the year of release or the following year and they really pushed it everywhere there. I don't think there was a single shop without tons of merchandise for it, plus they had a night party and arcade. :funny:

My biggest problem with Tron Legacy is the rather lazy script. The story is paper thin. Think about the amount of actual progress between when they enter the grid to when they leave.

Which is like a mile from the city to Jeff Bridges' well decor cave.

Disney Derezzes TRON 3

I wonder what happened. Tron Legacy was Sean Bailey's baby, and he's the president of production at Disney now, which is why I figured Tron 3 was going in the first place. It was an act of will. But perhaps whatever Kosinski was cooking up looked so half baked that even Bailey couldn't, in all good consience, sign off on it. The super soft opening of Tomorrowland - the lowest grossing #1 Memorial Day movie in 20 years - may have played a part as well.

Is that it for the Tron franchise? The stark reality is that while a few people quite like the first two movies, Tron has failed to accumulate many fans, and while Disney must look at the property and think there's some way to make money off of it, they've clearly come to the decision that it isn't by spending $200 million on another movie.

Disney Pulls Plug on ‘Tron 3′
James Rainey said:
There had been sufficient reporting about the film’s early development and buzz on fanboy sites that some observers had assumed Disney had given a formal greenlight to the production, but it never had. “I think it could resurface at some point but it’s not going to get the go button right now,” said another individual familiar with the project.

Super disappointed…thanks Bird!

Maybe Disney will now give Kosinski a Star Wars Anthoglogy film!
