since a lot of people dont remember the first movie or didnt even see it i wonder how will the story play out.

i hope in Legacy they explain everything that we need to know. or else this could be a disaster.

Star Trek ( 2009) has proven that you don't need the history of the previous movies ,tv series etc. to understand and enjoy a movie.
Ditto with Tron IMO. I think the whole point of the first part pf the movie ( with Flynn's son on the search) is to provide a quick summary of the audience needs to know . And that is primarily that Flynn disappeared in the Tron world.

Just watched the original. Fantastic movie and I'm completely excited for the sequel.

Same boat.......thought the music in the trailer was very well done. All the effects and action were superb as mentioned.

For those that have seen it....Is the original any good?

I saw it about 8 years ago and honestly i was quite bored. Maybe now i'll watch it differently but the movie is quite dated in terms of VFX. If that doesn't form a distraction to you , you might enjoy it i guess.

btw i lhope this movie gets remastered when it's releaded on dvd/blu-ray.
THe colors sometimes really were all over the place.

ok let me try it different. the first post was my mistake.

i hope that Tron legacy is not to much connected with the first Tron movie so that you need to see the first movie to understand Tron Legacy.

DOn't think so. And honestly that would be a dumb idea to begin with because Tron is a cult favorite but not that well known with the general audience. It's not like star trek which continued to be popular after Return Of The Jedi.
The movie itself should be made in such a way that it should stand on it's own.

Actually guys, the movie takes place 20 years after the original and is DIRECTLY tied to the original (minus Cindy Morgan's two characters). The PC game Tron 2.0, on the other hand, has been confirmed by Kosinski as not being cannon, meaning that the events in it won't be brought up in the movie.

we know that it is a sequel. i just hope that its presented in a way so that the general public will understand the story. because if they expect them to watch the first movie then they are stupid.

You sound like an executive that canceled Police Squad because "people were expected to pay attention to it when they watched".

should they realese a 20 second tv spot where they promote Tron for Tron legacy?

noone forced them to make a sequel. if they are not able to make a story that is clear enough for the general public this will fail.

Ironically I wonder if anyone at Paramount back in the day, or anyone in the business of predicting box office, thought that THE NAKED GUN would flop(which of course it didn't) because it was a movie spinoff of a failed tv series?

It's been three decades since the original TRON and I'd argue that like BLADE RUNNER and THE THING(those other influential Sci-fi flicks that fell in the summer of '82) most people, and not just sci-fi fanboys and buffs, are greatly aware of it now. Otherwise would Disney seriously have bothered with a sequel? This isn't CONDORMAN LEGACY (:hehe: for those who get the reference).

go read the last 10 pages. and you will see how even comicbook fans didnt watch the first movie.and the general public did? come ooooooooooooon.

the general public know about tron without even seeing it. Its in pop culture, people recognize the tron suit and the cycles. Even if they dont know that, the trailer looks good and its in 3D.

we are talking about the tron story not if people knoe the suits.

I think Simpsons said it best.

"Did anyone see that movie Tron?"
"No."
"No."
"No."
"No."
"Yes. I mean no."

People are going to see this film just because they think it looks good regardless of if they saw the original. I can't even remember anything from the original except that Jeff Bridges played a hacker that ended up inside a computer and I'm going to see this film because it looks awesome.

I've only seen Tron ONE time and I was pretty underwhelmed.

But, I just watched the new trailer and WOW. This looks incredible.

Does anyone know if this is attached to Alice in Wonderland by any chance? I'll go see that movie this weekend just to see this trailer again on the big screen.

I think I'm gonna watch Tron a few more times this summer before the movie's released. :D

Tron is one of those movies where it either clicks with you or it doesn't.

I love the first movie and there's something highly endearing watching it now with its limited understanding of computers yet managed to become in my opinion one of many great sci fi movies.

The reason why Tron: Legacy excites me beyond the great effects shown in the trailer is the line "This is going to change all medicine, government and religion".

I can't wait and see how Legacy handled the internet something the first Tron didn't have but now is an actually fully realized function.

Are we the only people on this board that saw Tron and enjoyed it?

I was really sad when RAM died.

By the end of the film I was rooting for TRON to kick some serious MCP ass!
