Saw the original for the first time a couple of weeks ago, thought it was brilliant! Bridges was great. I'd love to see how Flynn changes in this movie, because in the original he seemed like the happy-go-lucky adventurer type, while in this he seems more silent, contemplative. Though I'm sure 20+ years in the computer world will do that to you. Oh yeah, David Warner = best villain ever.

I have to admit, I'm a bit shocked at how many people are kind of "meh" about this film because they didn't like or see the original. I know it's a sequel, but come on... forget the first movie! This one looks phenomenal!

I wonder how people would view it if there had been no first movie and Tron: Legacy was an entirely new property.

I'm surprised too. I got hyped for this film without remembering anything about the first film. I only rewatched the original a week ago because the trailer for Tron Legacy looked so awesome.

I haven't seen the original film but I am planning to because Tron Legacy looks great, awesome ..

no its not.

saw the movie again after years and it sucks on every level. i am talking acting and story. the effects look fantastic because i know how hard it was in the 80s to make this look good.

but the pacing and editing? an Uwe Boll movie has better pacing. and some of the acting was some of the worst acting that i saw in 2010

some said that Tron was to good for its time. i disagree now. the problem was the story. it in no way can connect with a mass public.

Man, you're reaching ... comparing Tron to an Uwe Boll movie even if it is only about pacing and you add bad acting ? From whom ?

Probably.

Also, studios are finding that movies can still make a profit even if they fail at the box office through DVD's, games, toys, etc...

Of course, with Legacy's budget, that's a lot of DVD's

somtiems yes sometimes not.

there needs to a biiiiiig interest for something like this to happen. for example Terminator Salvation . IMO not a big enough interest for the studio to again spend mone on that franchise.

but i think Tron looks waaaaaaaaaaaay to cool to not be popular. i am no expert but this movie comes out in december. and arent in december 2010 a lot 3D movies realesed?

Well that is obviously one way of looking at things.
Another way is more practical. When studios assign scriptwriters this early on , it "usually" means that buzz on the movie is very very strong.
It has happened before with Star Trek reboot & Sherlock Holmes.
Of course the BO performance is the final deciding factor. If the movie performs as expected or above expectatations , then the sequel will be greenlit very quickly.

Because something like Tron Legacy takes ALONG time to finish due to the hige VFX sequences as well as the 3-d , it takes at least 2 years to make the movie ...counting from the time they start shooting to finising up in the editing suite. Add to that the time it takes to write a script ( without rushing it) and you can see that there won't be a sequel within the 2 year timeframe that studios love to do ( Star Trek , Iron Man 2 , Spider-man 2 , TF ROF , TF3...)
By handling the work early on , they can at least ensure that the don't have to wait 3-4 years for a sequel to come out.
Hell i wouldn't be surprised if the main cast returned to shoot the sequel sometime late 2011 for a dec 2013 release/

It was fantastic, I loved how they took the piss out of it but it was such a great episode and even somewhat respectful, they really shat on facebook, great stuff

However, the teaser trailer on certain polls has confused others that this might be Avatar 2 or some rip off... pretty concerning overall methinks.... Why waste money on Blue, just make everyone Red, t hat way no ilahi hupti ilahabadi confusion

i am asking this because its obvious that the joke ''Tron looks like Avatar'' doesnt work. but he still doesnt stop.so does he have some problems or does he think that he is a stand up comedian?

i thought we talked about this with you before, tron and avatar are two totally different projects, one is about aliens on another work that was cgi/3d. and tron is about a computer world. only simular thing is they are both 3d films.
