The Making of Tron Legacy

Whether you liked this movie or not, you have to admit that the visuals are astounding. Some of the stuff I thought was CG was actually real, and vice versa. :wow:

Wow that was awesome how they made certain scenes in the film, I hope this on the Blu-Ray special features .

It all hinged on the budget.

If it were only modestly budgeted, a 20+ years out sequel to a cult (flop)sci-fi film coming anywhere close to approaching $300 million would have been the success story of the year.

Instead, it's an underperformer.

its not only an underpeformer at the BO. its also an underperformer with the critics and with the general public.

I think the reason why Clu didn't always look real was because his mouth looked weird. They didn't do a very good job rigging it, because whenever I was "reminded" that his face was CG it was when he was talking.

Exact reaction both critically and financially that the first garnered. Financial or critical response to both Legacy and the first are almost identical.

"This is an almost wholly technological movie. Although it's populated by actors who are engaging (Bridges, Cindy Morgan) or sinister (Warner), it is not really a movie about human nature. This movie is a machine to dazzle and delight us".

"Tron is loaded with visual delights but falls way short of the mark in story and viewer involvement. Screenwriter-director Steven Lisberger has adequately marshalled a huge force of technicians to deliver the dazzle, but even kids (and specifically computer game geeks) will have a difficult time getting hooked on the situations"

"They're loud, bright and empty, and they're all this movie has to offer".

Those three excerpts were reviews from the first film.

Well ROTF's box office revenue was enough for Paramount to warrant a sequel.

Well, I think it's obvious this hasn't meet box office expectations, but I do wonder about the merchandising and all that. Could end up like Cars did for Pixar, which I think did much lower than their average, but kept steady because of all the sales from those areas.

The soundtrack is already performing very well so thats a good sign and with that animated series assuming its good might stir up sales in merchandising and so on.

Hopefully.

I've noticed the TRON soundtrack being used excessively on radio shows and tv and such...which is an awesome thing. I've heard Overture used as a Phone Scam intro lol.

IMO, I look at Clu as a prefect example of how even thought technology has become quite advanced over the many years from since it's original debut. And even though it's meant to strive for absolute perfection it will never achieve this because it's creator is imperfect.

Why didn't Flynn just make another Clu to fight the bad Clu?

then have that Clu betray him too?

Besides rarely you dont solve a problem bt creating another one of those problems

When Flynn created CLU he integrating a part of himself so you could say he's a extension of Flynn and I don't think it's possible to do more.

Now that I think of it I still don't see how integrating CLU would destroy them both. I mean if this CLU is different than the 1st movie's CLU and is not soley a program, but an extension of Flynn then I guess I can understand that. But if he is just a program then he should be able to be controlled by his user Flynn.

i think you pissed his point.

Flynn integrated himself with MasterControl in the first one, and he came out just fine. i thought it was the same thing here. except the portal closed before he could come along, so he stayed back. and if he didn't, then they would all be stuck there.

The movie's showing some legs at the box office and it's going to get probably over $170 million domestic.

$245 million already ?

and it hasn't even opened completely world wide yet :D

With a little luck this film might make 400 million world wide. That is probably the best case scenario ATM, however that would meet the theorized "double the budget" expectation that so many people hold to whether or not a film is successful.
