Turtles forever

Peter Laird needs to get over his *****ey ways and realize he'd be no where or nothing with out the 80's toon or 90's movies.

Seeing the old series portrayed negatively, just cause he hates it, is disgusting. Without it, he'd be nothing.
There's nothing that was wrong in that clip. Go back and watch it. It has some ridiculous garbage in it. I recently just got season 8 too which was from the mid-90's.

Yes, there is. That clip quite deliberately went out of it's way to amp up the cheesiness and goofiness of the 80's series to about 80 degrees more than it actually was. Why? Because Peter Laird is a *****e and doesn't realize a general audience is never gonna be able to take the turtles seriously in a dark omnious setting. Yes, they are suppose to be ninjas, but there damn anthromorphic turtles.

You just can't make a general audience believe them as anything else than silly fun. That's why the Turtles fails recently as a successful vehicle. He should just accept that way the turtles were represented in their height is always gonna be the way most people see them and be damn glad his properity even HAD a hay day, not make fun of it or try to ignore it every chance he gets.

No they really didn't. You are simply looking at the 80's series with rose colored glasses. It literally was that cheesy. They pretty much nailed April and the characters tongue in cheek 4th wall breaking dialogue.

Raphael once looked right at the camera and said KIDS WE'RE PROFESSIONALS, DON'T DO THIS AT HOME.

Because that's what the 80's series basically was. I grew up with the show and I love it, but it was absolutely ridiculous and even sometimes downright stupid.

I agree with the vileone. The show did stuff like that often, and it was that silly and out there.

And turtles fail as a succesful vehicle? Ugh I think the fact that the 2k3 has lasted a long time proves ou wrong.

I'm glad the 80s turtles are being picked on. I disliked that show so much. Just to silly even for a 5 year old.

Also here's how I see the clip. You have these newer turtles who are in a slightly edgier slightly darker world that takes itself a little more seriously. Its decidedly different. They meet the Fred Wolf-verse turtles and of course there's going to be a clash.

April's reaction is right out of the ****ing original series. She said **** like that constantly except I don't ever remember her uttering the words PEABODY which actually sort of makes sense.

I don't see Ninja Turtles ever anymore. You couldn't escape those damn turtles in my childhood, they were EVERYWHERE. Now most kids could give two damn cents about Ninja Turtles.

The fact the recent CGI movie failed to perform also proves they just don't have the power over the mass audience they use to.

I see it on TV, and I see the merchandise whenever I go into a toy store. Its not anywhere near as popular as when turtle fever was around, but I mean most of those fans have grown up and like other things.

Of course they don't, but this isn't a movie design for mass release. This movie is mainly being targeted at kids and longtime fans. Not exactly a mainstream fanbase but a segmented one. So what are you so upset about?

The movie might not have done that well($95 million dollars is so horrible), but the movie toys flew off the racks.

I'm going to guess that the 80s Turtles being made fun is making him feel like its not only a punch at his childhood but at his taste as well. I can understand the feeling I get testy when people make fun of Power Rangers. When something you love is being made fun of you kind of take it personal.

I love Power Rangers too, but I'm also not blind. I'm not blind to how yes at times Powers Rangers was awfully silly cheesy and campy.

On one occassion The Animaniacs did a parody episode of Power Rangers, and you know what? IT WAS FREAKING FUNNY!

Tons of things I love are parodied. It doesn't mean they are bad.

Yeah, I laughed at that episode as well, and the epsidoe of Reboot, and many other shows that take jabs at Power Rangers. Thing is though, those shows never used "THE" Power Ranger in the show to make fun of.

I'm sure he'd be fine if the 2k3 turtiles met like clones of themselves that the writers would use to make fun of the 80s version(Thats parody). I'm sure he'd laugh at it, and go "Thats so true" at the jokes they'd poke at the old show. But no, they're using "THE" original 80s Fred Wolf Turtles(Not seen as parody, but as a mean jab at fans). Thats why so many people are peeved.

If people are peeved its because they are unwilling to remove their nostalgia glasses and recognize that even though we love these things they don't hold up like they did say 20 years ago.

I can barely get through an episode of MOTU or Voltron these days.

Yeah, those shows are both hard to sit through. I can't sit through Street Sharks anymore based on the animation alone. I used to remember being so awesome as a young boy. :(

So.... no longer a Fathom Event..... looks like ill be Tivo'ing this

(Which I cannot wait for :D)

I'm guessing around Nov.21, after they finish the top ten TMNT episode count down on the CW.

Well, it's Eastman and Lairds fault, and Playmates IMO. TMNT started out as a dark tale of revenge, but after Kev and Pete sold out to playmates and Fred Wolf, the turtles became slapsticky jokes and parodies of themselves. Now don't get me wrong, I love the 80's turtles, and I am a fan for lif because of them. But, the movie studios, playmate toys, and other merchandises monguls only see the turtles as cash cows for kids, and refuse to let the property grow up. A dark, true to the roots turtle movie can be made, even with the inclusion of Bebop and Rocksteady ( IMO, the 80's toon and Archie comics had better story and characters than Mirage) , but the problem is that the powers that be want to forever market it to kids, and the fanbase will ***** and complain if it's not like the Mirage series or 80's toon ( personally, I'd like to see a combo of both).

Batman started off dark, then became a campy joke, went back to being dark again, then went back to camp, now he's back dark. I don't understand why the turtles can't go back to there dark roots.

Cause Batman is a man in a suit. The turtles are anthropomorphic talking ninja weapon wielding TURTLES.

I don't see what the bickering is about. I generally like the new cartoons. The new movie was OK, not great.

I'm excited about this new animated movie.

Well the Transformers are robots from outer space that turn into vehicles, appliances, etc., so mutant turtles fighting ninjas doesn't seemed that far-fetched to me. Especially when we have movies about ;

- A big red demon that works for the government chasing monsters (Hellboy)

- A freak who can heal from anything and has unbreakable claws ( Wolverine)

- A billionaire who moonlights as a crime fighter who's enemies are a psychotic clown and a dude with half a face ( Dark Knight).

- A teenage boy who can transform into a giant ape, who fights a green alien for 7 magic orbs ( Dragonball).

there is a lil bit of mocking towards the Original series turtles, but from what i heard from the audio recording floating around the net raph takes a dig to many towards the turtles through out and ends up getting a short beating from the OT before reacting by saying about there short temper

the audiance on the recording laughed at the beating, shows there are alot of fans of the OT

:)

I have to say, after watching this clip, I now realize why I love the 80's turtles far more than the new ones (old ones... whatever.) Seriously, they aren't AS campy as the clip showed with giant mutant bananas running around everywhere, but still, the show was a campy action fest that was simply (and still is) amazingly funny and sometimes quite compelling.

I look forward to seeing this in anyway shape or form I can possibly can.

And anyone commenting on the cheesiness of the Original Series need only look at this new TV show, it's just as cheesy and all the more insulting when it tries to be "serious" when they are going into different time periods and using special monk/ninja powers. It's just as ridiculous just 1/3rd less humor. (Not to say I don't love it too death still.)

Edit: Does anyone else find it kind of sad that seeing them side by side... the art direction behind the Original Turtles is actually better than the new ones? -_-

i think the old 80s turtles are more enduring, in a weird way.

Actually, they really, REALLY did. At first I agreed with you, but, after popping in the DVD's this morning to watch a few episodes before getting to my days work... I have to say, while it is cheesy sometimes, in the early episodes at least it's actually way more compelling and character driven than the 2k3 series, which just depresses me.

And really, the old series was far more serious than people remember, fourth wall breaking or not. I'm watching April as we speak and she is no where near as ditsy or crazy as in Turtles Forever. They weren't running around going "WHOO HOO! COWABUNGA! YEA-HA!!!" "We save April everyday." And old Mikey is actually way less obnoxious than new Mikey whom I just watched last night bragging about his Battle Nexus championship, over, and over, and over. These aren't nostalgia glasses as I don't really remember anything about the series I was younger than 1 year old when it came out and watched it until I was like 5 or something.

The sad thing is, when the 80's TV show was cheesy, it meant to be cheesy. When the 2k3 series is cheesy, which it is more often than not, it is not intending to be, which comes off as incredibly pathetic.

With that said I don't really care. Turtles Forever looks hilarious. And since I have a sense of humor I have no problem with Laird using this opportunity to hate on the old Turtles as long as it entertains me, which it definitely was. Besides, even if they overexaggerated the 80's Turtles it just made me love them all the more, as Octoberist said, they do seem all the more enduring when compared to the new Turtles.
