The Dark Knight Two years later: Heath Ledger's performance

I knew from the moment the first teaser trailer for The Dark Knight was released, That Heath's preformance as the Joker would be one for the ages. Just the sound of his nasal raspy voice made me shiver. Heath blew me away. He became the Joker. You didn't think of Heath Ledger. All you could focus your attention to was the Joker. Heath was funny, charismatic, But could also scare the living crap out of you. That's the Joker that I'm familiar with. Heath earned all the praise for his preformance. He nailed every nuance that makes the Joker the legendary character that he is. It sucks that Heath is no longer with us. But his Joker will live on in Batman and cinema history. Why So Serious?

The question I pose is this. Two years later, now that the hype and excitement of the initial release is over, how do you feel about Heath Ledger's performance now? Do you still consider it Oscar-worthy (if you did in the first place)? Does it get better after each viewing? Or does it become more gimmicky after each viewing?
The more i watch his performance, the more amazing i find it. I dont get tired of it at all. I think the Academy Award is well deserved. To be honest, the movie itself doesnt hold up well with me after multiple viewings, i find myself skipping a lot when i put on the dvd. But i dont tire of Heath's performance at all. For me, he's the best thing about TDK, hands down.

I enjoy Heath's performance every bit as much today as I did on day one. I'll say this though, looking back, is there anyone else besides me who would've loved a scene in TDK where The Joker gives the "One bad day" talk to Batman? "You had a bad day once didn't you? You had a bad day and everything changed." I would've loved a scene between them with that dialogue.
I suspect he would have done something like that if only Batman had let him finish that last scar story. :hehe:

What I really like about Heath's Joker was how sneaky he was, and how subtle he was with it. It isn't until you start reading the screenplay (and/or listening to his lines carefully and gauging them with his actions) that you realize when he's lying and when he's telling the truth. Maybe. :funny: A lot of the qualms people had about his supposedly hypocritical statements or actions would be alleviated with that realization, like they never realized that the Joker was capable of lying. :funny:

He's acting really out there, almost like he isn't human at all, but manages to insert enough real humanity that it's hard to tell how truthful the character is at any given point in time. It's a delicate balance that Heath pulled off perfectly.

I think Heath Ledger's Joker is vastly overrated, it was well acted and had some cool bits like the pencil trick, bazooka, don't give a s**t about the Oscar win but he played a pretty good film terrorist (Sorry, but Heath died a drug junkie to me not some legend, no offense) but overall I didn't enjoy/like it as much as the Jack Nicholson portrayal or the unbeatable voice-over of Mark Hamill in BTAS plus the TDK Joker just didn't feel like The Joker to me.

No offense, it's my opinion, nothing will change it and don't argue with me about it because I have done that in another thread already. End of story, that's all I got to say.

I always thought he would have possibly told Batman the real story about his scars. He seemed the most honest with Batman, especially in that last scene.

That is a huge insult. I could care less if you liked his performance or even liked him as an actor, but there's no need to insult him as a person. The fact of the matter is he was not a junkie, he was irresponsible with prescription medication. Simple as that. Don't let your bias against his Joker bleed into your opinion of him as a person.

I still think it's a chilling, terrifying performance. Cliche as it sounds, Ledger disappeared into the role.

And I still feel bad that Aaron Eckhart was overlooked for his performance as Harvey Dent for the same reasons as mentioned by others.

Aaron Eckhart is just as much Two-Face as Ledger is the Joker.

Aaron Eckhardt is still my favourite performance in the movie.

Pretty much exactly how i feel. If it wasn't for his performance, TDK would be sooooo totally boring and flat and souless.

He was a coke head. That is the fact of the matter. Not saying he is a bad person, i used to be a coke head and i'm not a bad person!

And BTW it's couldN'T. COULDN'T CARE LESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :argh:

I can't tell if you're being serious or not, so I'm not gonna comment.

Heath Ledger's performance is the best ever, but everyday that passes makes it feel more like 'good old times'

I am being serious. It was well known that Ledger did coke. And it is couldn't care less. Not could care less, that doesn't make any sense.

I'd have to have some evidence before I'd believe that. The most I heard was that he might have dabbled in it once or twice. But even if he did that's not what he died from.

There was pictures of him, he got caught by an undercover reporter a little while before he got the Joker role. It was in a load of papers.

Like i said i'm not judging the man. Just because he did coke it doesn't make him a bad person. And no it probably didn't have nothing to do with his death.

But people need to take the rose tinted glasses off. Ledger was no angel.

Very good performance. Brilliant.

But my fave from the movie is still Eckhardt's.

while I like Eckhardt, I don't see anything special in his performance. Heath stole the show, as expected, While Bale played an AMAZING Bruce Wayne but a mediocre Batman.

I knew who it was, but I thought tit was funny two people make the same spelling error.

AHHH! Misspelled a word in a post where I point out a spelling error. Damn you, irony!

I just want to point out I don't find **** funny. Unless there's a tattoo of a mouse face on them and the nipple is the mouse's nose; then it's funny.
