The Dark Knight Rises 8 Years Later...

Are you okay with the story taking place 8 years later?

  • Yes...In Nolan, I trust.

  • No...It's too much off a time-gap

  • Maybe/Undecided...Need more time

Perhaps the ending will mirror "The Dark Knight Returns", where Bruce continues to fight crime, without the costume.

Wow. That sounds dreadful.

Yes. That would offend me.

Why on earth some random character would be invented to take Batman's place boggles the mind. Robin already exists, people.

It would be kind of amazingly hilarious if "John Blake" was a red herring all along and the character's name is actually Dick Grayson! Of course, that would give away the end of the movie as soon as he made his first appearance.

At least it's original, in contrast to the typical 'watching over Gotham in a dramatic pose and maintaining the status quo' ending we've seen a dozen times

I think you may be in the minority on that one. It doesn't have to be shot for shot the same scene as always. There could be something unique to it. For instance I've seen that ending about 4 different times and all 4 times it felt original. In 'Batman 1989' they panned all the way up through Gotham's buildings, in 'Phantasm' there is the whole Batman's heart is broken aspect to it, in 'Returns' it was Catwoman instead, in Begins he's standing on his perch but has that exchange with Gordan then flies into the camera, etc etc.

So I don't see why we can't something similar (but different) for the ending of the Batman trilogy.

No... He's 39/40 in TDKR. He celebrated his 30th birthday in BB and TDK was a year (more or less) later so that makes him 31/32. TDKR is 8 years later so that makes Bruce 39/40. Bale is 37 right now (38 when TDKR arrives next year) so it's pretty close.

Ah, that's right. Well now it's just an even worse-sounding idea to give him this fake grey in his hair.

I hope that the ending isn't a sort of "walking into the sunlight" sort of ending, but rather an "into the darkness". Wayne/Batman has always been a tragic character, who is destined to be alone not matter how many people he saves, or how many criminals he locks up.

Some people get grey hair in their 20s...

Fine. But since most people don't, and specifically Christian Bale doesn't, I think it's weird that they would insist on doing it here. Unnecessary, and to me a tiny bit distracting.

It could be, but I think they're just telling the audience that time has passed since TDK. Bruce is older now, and it is clear with the grey.

Wait...did they give Bale a bit of grey hair in this movie?

Ha, yeah, he's been spotted for months now. He has a little bit of grey on his sides. It's not full on, just a few streaks, though.

I'm out of the loop. Before about a week or two ago I hadn't been here in months.

Cool to know, though.

It's all good. I know I haven't seen that Fozzie Bear for awhile.:woot:

I think we all said something similar before Batman Beyond came out.

Some new character we've never heard of taking over for Bruce instead of Dick or Tim? What are they thinking!

Low and behold, they created a pretty awesome new character in Terry McGuiness who we all very quickly accepted as Batman due to his phenomenal introduction, backstory, and characterization.

Nolan could quite easily due something similar in his movie. And, much like all of his other changes he made (facepaint Joker, having both Two-Face and Joker in one movie, etc), after the fact we'll realize what was dumb was our original assumptions.

I'm not saying I think it'll happen, but on the off chance Nolan does go the route, I'm fully confident he'd do it in a thoroughly logical and original way that is anything but offensive.

It could serve as more evidence of the toll that being Batman has taken on Bruce. I don't know if there is any real basis for it, but it is often said that stress/a hard life causes people to develop grey hair prematurely. Whether or not there is a real scientific basis for that, it's a common literary device. Also, the average age for Caucasian people to develop grey hair is their mid-thirties actually. So a 40 year old Bruce with grey hair is hardly abnormal. I'd say there is good thematic reason for Bruce to have grey hair.

Not to bring politics into this, but Obama was seen with more extensive amounts of grey hair after becoming president.

Yeah, that happened to Bush too. It looked like he had aged about 20 years in his two terms.

Yeah, the stress angle makes more sense and kind of works for me.

Fully agree.
