Age of Ultron Ultron! We Would Have Words With Thee! Official Thor/Chris Hemworth Thread - Part 1

I thought Thor was great! Not much else to be said, although a version of the line in this thread's title would have been cool, but that's a nitpick. Good job Whedon!

You know what I love the most about these films - seeing the heroes mix it up. The budding friendships and all the little character moments that hearken back to the comics. Like Tony and Thor comparing girlfriends. Tony getting snarky with Cap over his intolerance of profanity. Thor declaring the need for revels after the mission and later sharing Asgardian libations with his friends. Seeing the Big Three: Thor, Tony and Steve together at the end literally warmed my heart. So awesome.

I'm sure there are more moments that I missed. Can't wait to see the movie again!!

Likewise! I loved how they were all at ease around each other, especially the big three and the team as a whole.
I liked what Thor said to Tony when he choked him too. Yeah they're pals but Thor wasn't afraid to almost say something out of line. Cap stepping in was awesome too.

His status report on Hulk was the best. "Screams of the wounded..."

My apologies lol i never meant they were ever a joke. i meant it like his power and strength are not any funny business or to be taken lightly.

No apologies needed!

Does anyone else love how with each new Movie, Asgard gets more and more of an old-school Viking vibe? Also the outfits have improved like tenfold. Loved his armorless look in the Quinjet, after the Hydra mission.

I love it too!

Great pic, by the way.

:up::up:

Everyone has looked better and better over the years and Thor is definitely one of them.

Hemsworth is great in the role. But does anyone get the sense that Whedon simply does not know how to use Thor? I again got the sense that he was at the fringes of the plot, not contributing to it in any significant way except the small detour where he goes to that pool to get some knowledge (I did not even fully understand what that pool was).

He's just a regular team member, and Whedon uses him as the muscle (in a lesser capacity than the Hulk) and for some comic relief. But he really does not do anything significant in the film (apart from fighting in the battles like every other Avenger).

I guess he IS difficult to write for.

The above is just my opinion and how it seemed to me.

Thor is OP, they've got to find a way of keeping him distracted otherwise he can pretty much just level everything on Earth in 1 minute - strong as hulk, lightning spam, earthquakes, projectile weapon, the dude is just OP for planet earth

:awesome: Simply beautiful. Marvel's aesthetics get better with every film.

Vision looked fantastic as well and (soon to come) the look for Yellow Jacket is very inspired and Ant-Man's costume looks perfect too.

Well said. I like how Joss has juggled all these characters and he has given us Thor fans some of his best moments. The Russos have big shoes to fill IMO.

Does anyone here think the waters are the Well of Wyrd? Or maybe Urðarbrunnr?

Can't wait to see this thread get picked up in Ragnarok.

I was impressed with Thor's powers in this film.

His powers were well used in this film, in my honest opinion and he had a lot more to do when compared to his last "Avengers" outing.

Be that as it may, I wonder why Thor was the only one that got a "prophetic" vision from Scarlet Witch's powers as opposed to Tony, Steve, and Natasha. All of their visions were basically either their worst fears/regrets come to life, or a glimpse back into their traumatic past.

I also feel like Thor's side quest should have had one more scene attached to it.

I mean much like how Thor returning to Earth in "The Avengers" was glossed over, with no real in depth explanation other than Loki assuming that Odin had conjured up Dark Magic for that to take place, Thor's trip to the Waters felt like a Plot Device that was introduced out of the blue.

Yup
I thought the Ultron bots would be more of challenge but they were Chitauri v2. I'm pretty a common thought was... Thor could do this all himself.
But thats the exciting part of Thanos and Surtur- they'll be able to push Thor like never before

I assumed it's because of his Asgardian/immortal nature. Things didn't work on him as they were supposed to.

That's the only thing that I didn't like about about his arc in AoU.

Supposedly Whedon had to cut like an hour out of the movie, including quite a bit of the Thor subplot
(which is why the mysterious cloaked woman from the trailer doesn't actually appear in the movie),
because it has more to do with what will happen in future movies than this one. But since it was Thor's big thing in is movie, they left enough of it in to give him stuff to do.

I feel like an extended cut would help in this regard. Not necessarily a full hour, but maybe 20-30 minutes.

You know what I miss? One shots. I know they don't need to do them anymore, but they were a nice feature.

Maybe they could take some of that cut footage and spin it together for a one-shot? That way it could be more in-canon than just a deleted scene, but less work than re-editing the entire film for an extended cut.

Just a thought. What do you guys think?

The only thing worry about the Russos doing wrong is making IW too "Cap" centric.

I mean they obviously have a love fot the character and that may translate to other characters being short changed.

See I'm not really worried about that. Even Cap's own sequel was more about Shield than Cap.

I keep forgetting to ask, does Thor say "Ultron, we would have words with you!" at any time?

He doesn't, which was disappointing to me. I kept waiting for it. In fact, it was disappointing enough that I came into this thread for the sole purpose of pointing that out.

However, there was the scene when he was distracting Ultron and said "I have run out of things to say" right before Vision got a good hit in. May have been a reference to the line, I dunno.

Yet he spent like 20 seconds clearing out Hydra goons on a tower, because apparently he didn't feel like using Mjolnir. I guess being a god gets boring sometimes, and you feel like limiting yourself just to provide a challenge (sorta like how Dark Souls pros do ridiculous challenges, like roll damage only runs).

Speaking of Thor forgoing Mjollnir just so that he'd experience a fight that lasts more than the blink of an eye, did anyone feel almost a tad sorry for HYDRA? haha that was faaar from a fair fight, even with the intervention of the Twins.

More like he didn't want to kill "ordinary humans," which those HYDRA goons were. He could have killed IM easily in the first movie, even with the unintentional powerup, but was deliberately holding back because he didn't want to.

I'm pretty sure Thors punches and kicks killed those goons.

The guy crushed titanium with his bare hands, how can a human take those punches?

Can you hold them back? Uh, they're the Avengers.

I'm the opposite. I think Whedon is the guy that finally gets Thor. I haven't enjoyed the character in his solo movies, but I couldn't get enough of him in AoU. I found he was quite the scene stealer. It actually got me super pumped for Ragnarok, whereas before I was thinking about it at all.
