Superman Returns Vague History - merged

the apocalyptic landscape you saw was krypton-- but the remains of krypton, long dead. it's just a giant chunk of the planet. however, these scenes were cut, and will likely be alluded to in the film.

those were one of the few things that i was curious about-- how will Singer portray the dead Planet Krypton? will it still be whole? will it be reduced to an asteroid field? how exactly was Krypton destroyed by the Red Sun? did it get engulfed? did it get ripped apart? was it only the atmosphere that the Red Sun pull in thus killing all inhabitants but preserving the planet?.....

guess i'll have to wait for the DVD to find that out..... :(

I don't think anyone can truly relieve you of your confusion...fact is we are all pretty confused ourselves :)

this is one of the many reasons why Singer refered to S:TM and SM2 as a 'vague history' because not EVERYTHING in HIS version of Superman happened in Donner's version.

As you can see in the picture there isn't any chunks of the planet flouding around in that picture above. Plus you can see the planet's horizon. THIS MOVIE JUST MAKE NO SENSE.

jepp, because you know how the physics of a dead planet work

makes perfect sense to me. Singer's doing his interpretation of Superman...he just wanted to incorporate some of Donner's ideas into his version of Superman.

it's simple...Batman Begins was HEAVILY influenced by Year One the same way Superman Returns is heavily influenced by Superman the movie. they each have their influences, their influences were just different mediums.

maybe we will. maybe we won't. I think that's what singer said.

Yeah, I think I kinda do know something about physics. Check this out. When a planet exploded, it will lose it's gravitational pole to revolves around the sun. Plus there would be bits and pieces of the planet spreading around that solar system. Therefore the perfect horizon made no sense. Get it now?

They have been telling us that they made this to ignore Superman 3 & 4. Maybe I should be ignoring Superman 1 too because from what I have read some if not most of the movie is about flashback to Clark's childhood in Smallville. Didn't we already seen that in Superman 1 and Smallville TV series? How original they are trying to make this one to be. I think Kevin Smith would have made the new Superman movie more awsome than Bryan and his monkey team was able to do.

hlbimage, it seems you've already made up your mind to hate the movie.

ya,polar bears and all....

Nope, that is not what I meant. I just think that this movie made no sense. I will go see it just to see how the whole thing held up.

Yup.......with Polar bears, a giant spider, no Superman in costume, a Chewy like character, and a black/gay/robot sidekick. I think that movie would kickbutt.

Dude, chill... What you're seeing in that pic is a gigantic piece of the planet. Krypton does explode in this movie. Here's another piece of production art.

See? Huge pieces of exploded planet. And they've become kryptonite. Singer gets it.

This movie is technically a restart of the Superman series. Singer is just using some of the events from SM1 as back history instead of using the comics.

I guess I'm wrong then. Thanks for giving this fanboy some closure.

who knows, it might be a large fragement of the planet, maybe the force of the explosion blew smaller debris away, while the heavier larger fragments lingered in kryptons old orbit.

I think the flashbacks will be important to the introduction of this troublesome crystal. That's something that they are required to re-explain I think. Some how, they need to show Clark getting the crystal (to imply ownership), and they need to explain what it is capable of(to imply it's power) and then Lex can go on his merry way and create some new beach front property. So I think that the flashbacks will revolve around the crystal, which we've already seen in a flashback already.

Relate the confusion you have about this movie to that of heartbreak........You just can't figure it out!

for a planet to literally explode it would be necessairy to overcome its gravitational binding energy. It is quite possible that the fragments of Krypton were not able to overcome the GBE and ended up reforming into something that from the outside looks like a intact planet but in reality is nothing more than a swiss cheese of debris.
