Sequels Venom Spin-Off ISN'T Dead????

If they follow the tone of TASM and Trank is indeed in talks for this, then my hopes would definitely be raised. The big question is will this somehow be part of the Webb spider-verse or a completely seperate entity?

Spidey is Sony's cash cow. You would think that if they spun-off of his brand they would want to maximize the potential. Not shoot themselves in the foot right out of the gate with Ghost Rider and Punisher type efforts. Here's hoping....

I would like to see Venom again in a Spider-Man movie, but calling Venom an anti - hero just to justify that he deserves a solo movie is ridiculous.

Venom is a Villain and he should not get a solo movie. I think that the whole idea that following characters should get their own solo movies is bad that include -

Marvel-
Venom, Deadpool.


DC -
Lobo, Bizzarro.

The anti-hero thing is ridiculous Hobgoblin, and that's why I hope they stay away from it. Yet, they cannot continue to follow the same approach as the comics or animation...because of the fact in print he's an anti-hero; and in animation, he is basically a stalker/agitator.

They have to re-invent the character, all aspects of him, to give foundation to Brock, history & reason to the Symbiote, and motive to Venom. Otherwise, the character will continue to remain hollow and uninteresting.

Now, of course the character has to tie neatly to Webb's Spidey-verse, with an even darker tone. What I was suggesting is that you don't necessarily have to have Spidey get the Sym first to explain Venom's origin. There is a better way to do it, if you desire to follow " the untold story" format.

Besides, I have always been an advocate of doing two solo Venom films to set the foundation of the character, than make his third appearance in a Spider-Man film itself. Have both film continue separately, but in the same continuity.

Yeah, I don't really agree with this Venom spin-off idea. Will it be in the same universe as TASM? What if one of the sequels decide to have Venom as the villain? It might confuse some people.

The general audience won't care either way. Just ask anyone who isn't a comic book fan, and you'll see. They can keep the character of Venom the same as he appears in the comics, but they'll have to make Brock someone who's trying to fight against this evil-being and not allow it to change him as who he is.

Venom is a Villain .

The reason he made the transition to anti-hero so seamlessly is because he was never a classic villian. Even in his earliest appearances, he was conflicted over killing guards and stopped fighting Spider-man to save a baby from drowning. His morality always seemed to be at war with his hatred of Spidey. That's what made him so interesting.

He's never been evil. He's always just not liked Parker, but there were a few lines that he wouldn't cross.

Nevertheless, I'd say a Venom film should have Jensen Ackles step into the shoes of Eddie Brock. Why not do the character justice and let a man who actually goes to the gym play Venom? Brock has always been ripped in the comics. Ackles/Brock is running on rooftops, taking leaps from one to the other, and the suit takes over mid-air. Sweet!

i would love to see a "Venom as the anti-hero" film, but a lot of you bring up good points, i think. Ghost Rider is an anti-hero, and they sure f***ed that up when they made the films (especially GR: Spirit of Vengeance), so Marvel anti-hero films havent gone well up to this point. but lets also remember that in the earlier comics, Venom was kinda a good guy, kinda. if i remember correctly, he was the protector for some underground city, i think, in the 1990's comics. correct me if im wrong....although, now that im thinking about it, im kinda doubting this idea. making a film where venom is an anti-hero has a great capability for disappointment. those that dont read the comics who have seen the crappy-ass venom from Spider-Man 3 would always imagine Venom as a villain and those people would not...appreciate Venom as any kind of hero.

i'd watch the film, but i don't see how it could be considered a great film. who knows. maybe im wrong. time will tell.

I keep getting Halle Berry's Catwoman vibes from the thought of a Venom spin-off. Both the symbiote and Eddie Brock (EDDIE...F******...BROCK) need to be introduced into the ASM films and fleshed out as much as bloody possible before a Venom movie is even considered.

I agree with WolfCypher. Brock needs to be established first before Venom even plays a point. I'd like a movie for just Venom, but I also want it to be good and tie-in with ASM.

Part of the reason for Venom getting his own movie is due to his status as an anti-hero in the comics, allowing him to branch out into his own adventures completely separate from whatever Spider-Man was doing. That may be especially important for the movie now that Spider-Man is being rebooted. They should have Brock, without telling the origin, already bonded with the symbiote.

I was hoping for Venom to be in a Spider-man film again because,at least for me,part of the fun of Venom's creation is seeing Peter Parker with the symbiote first. Watching how it corrupted Peter and watching Eddie's downfall,just knowing where it all will lead. But...I'm guessing that with a solo film,Venom's creation will more or less just be seen in flashbacks,which is a bit disappointing.

I got to agree with this, I'm more of a backstory and origin kind of guy, but I can live without them. Brock's story is deep enough (like an anti-Spider-Man) to just have Spider-Man as a reference, nothing more.

That is the safest route to take, but I really wasn't trying to get you into a flame war or anything. You couldn't have known this, but I would have respectfully disagreed with you and we'd be in a debate, perhaps, but I wouldn't have made it into a feud. But understandably, there was no assurance either way that we would have either argued or just discussed counterpoints.

Honestly,I would want Macfarlene to be involved in some way. He helped create Venom,and everything he's suggested they do(make Venom scarier,more vicious;etc)I agree with. He knows the character,at least alot more than anyone on Spider-man 3 seemed to know.

Venom should be brutal on screen, but his sense of morality should be there too. While killing the scum of the city, he’s pursued by the police. They could also tell about Brock’s past and how his mother died because of his birth and his father always blamed him for that.

If they do go the anti-hero route,I think a Venom film should be about a battle for Eddie's soul. Eddie,while pissed and angry at the world,is really a good man just trying to do the right thing,even if doing the right thing means crossing the line. While...the symbiote is nothing more than this evil entity that wants nothing more than to feed off Eddie's hatred and disgust of mankind.

Yep. For it to work though,they would have to make the film more about Eddie than Venom. You need to develop the person behind the "mask" as it were,first. I want action,yes,but the last thing I want is some Michael Bay mindless action film.
