VERY WORRIED ABOUT "3's" SUCCESS!!!!

Saw the trailer and a few things came to mind:
• I didn't get the goosebump feeling that the teaser for "2" made me feel.
• Would a casual "movie only" fan be confused? The whole inner conflict-Venom thing may be too much for the casual fan, and this, being their first exposure to the third movie might turn them off. At least part 2 was very understandable: One villian - Dr. Octopus. Venom is a fairly new enemy, not as familiar with Doc Ock.
• Are we headed down the Batman “Too many villains” path???
• Also, not to be sexist, but casual female fans that want to see where the romance between Peter and Mary Jane goes might be left out of the trailer too. If you remember, part 2's trailer started with Peter and Mary Jane talking about their relationship.
• I showed the trailer to both my brother and my Dad who are huge fans of the MOVIE but not the comic books. They both had the same response: "Why is he black?" I explained it to them and they both went, "Oh." Not good.

Hey, I'm VERY excited about the new movie - but I also read the comics and am familiar with Venom. Being in the entertainment business, I just worry that this movie might lose the casual fan with all of its complexities. I hope I'm wrong on this one!

A cippa chappa chawwa! welcome to the hype! A Cippa Chowwpa Chaapooo!

There are mixed opinions, but for me i think it was great. We got a taste of whats to come and it'll get better. SM3 is looking to be the biggest Marvel film for 07, i'm optomistic.

"To each his own."

Venom wasn't in the teaser nor was he hinted at in the teaser (to the casual audience).

No, because Raimi isn't Schumacher.
• Also, not to be sexist, but casual female fans that want to see where the romance between Peter and Mary Jane goes might be left out of the trailer too. If you remember, part 2's trailer started with Peter and Mary Jane talking about their relationship.

We also saw them passionately kissing in the teaser.

Yes, because your brother and dad are the barometer of the general audience.

Yes, because general audiences are absolutely ******ed and "complexities" that are complex may confuse them. Any one in the "entertainment business" knows this to be the complete opposite. Good day!

oh jeez....Its starting already.

I think it might be wise if i save myself the many headaches and just leave the spidey section untill release..

Anyone CONFUSED by this is a moron. I showed it to my girlfriend and she was like oh so that black stuff takes over his body WITHOUT ME EXPLANING IT TO HER.

I showed a friend of mine the trailer and he said that it was an interesting, yet kinda confusing trailer. I myself don't know a whole lot about the Spider-Man storyline other than what I've read in these forums, and thought that the trailer would be kinda confusing for a person who doesn't know that Peter/ Spider-Man was the first person to be taken by the suit. I guess we'll just have to see how they handle the actual movie.

Venom, like GG and Doc Ock, is well known outside the comic audience.

The symbiote's origin wasn't explained in the trailer...of course the general audience is like WTF!

I would say Venom is probably the most well known.

Of course the teaser is going to be confusing. Questions like "Why is he black?" is going to draw the audience in, not turn them away. I think it's more a of a confusion-curiosity. You can tell your family about the comic version of events, but that doesn't necessary mean that's the route the movie will take. If anything people will want to see how this ties up and what the deal with the new suit is. They'll be intrigued, and this will beat SM-1's record.

i voted for relax, it'll be the best yet, because i think it will be, but i think the general movie going public doesn't know who venom or the symbiote are. i showed my mom the trailer (i take her to every marvel movie opening) and she didn't know what was going on, and a few of my friends, who know who venom is, didn't know what the symbiote is, and asked me what the goop was, and why spider-man has a black suit... so... we'll see what they do with the marketing. i think they'll ahve to explain it a bit.

It's more like the "Adopt a n00b compain." It is where knowledgeable fans of the movie explain to non-fans why things are the way they are.

Precisely!!!! This could be the best yet - but Sony has to market this movie right!

they showed spiderman in his reg costume...people shouldnt get that confused because hes black...parents will think "oh great, more toys to buy"

if someone is not familiar with the comics and the black suit, people are goin to be like "wtf"? people who dont read comics are losers.

they saw the trailer
people are gonna wonder why hes black now and go see it,actually people will probably see it regardless b/c of the success of the past 2 films and the story will explain why hes black now
not a big deal

The Spider-Man movies have never struggled with financial success. They're not going to start now.

This one will be as successful as the other two were.

Excellent reply Ock, I dunno what they're getting all worked up about. It's as though they have a time machine and actually traveled to May of 2007.

Sigh.

imo the trailer LOOks better then 1 and 2 and wen i saw the teaser for 2 it was pretty accurate to the feel of number 2 so ill go off of past experience and say itll be the best.
