That's kind of the overarching point of The Penguin, in terms of who he is VS what he does. He's someone who should never have been able to attain the type of stature that he does. He wants nothing more than to attain that stature, and finds himself hitting a wall, so he turns to other means, like a lot of real criminals. He's Strain Theory in action, and he's also an incredibly driven character.

I...I love you...

I really like the use of Penguin. You've got Bruce Wayne, a rich powerful figure in Gotham who's alter ego Batman is a wanted fugitive. Meanwhile you've got Cobblepot, a rich influential political figure in Gotham who has taken a lead role in being vocal about the capture of this fugitive Batman. His alter ego known as "the Penguin" is secretly smuggling and supplying Gotham's criminal organizations with weapons behind the scenes. Helping to turn Gotham against Batman while being a true criminal himself. He doesn't have to be the main villain but a supporting villain in that capacity.

I like this idea. It puts Penguin as a sort of puppet master. Penguin was always more of a cerebral threat than like likes of most of Bat's rougues gallery. He was able to try to run for mayor in the comics if I could remember correctly (although it seemed REALLY farfetched in Batman Returns...especially the fact that it seemed like he was winning legitly in a way, I mean it was like... "Really Gotham?") Oswald could be playing both sides of the law. The best way to run the show is to let someone else think they are running the show (in this case it would be Black Mask). Plus, if they still go with this freak uprising thing, when Batman confronts Penguin, he would be more calm and collected and possibly offer a way to stop this freak escalation by making Gotham the way it was... corrupt and under mob rule, which would pretty much undo everything Batman has done with the past 2 films. Of course Bat's wouldn't take this, but it would bring up the whole "which is worst scenario.

I see Penguin as a fantasist with a mjor inferiority complex. He's not really that educated or sophisticated. Yet he deludes himself into thinking that he's this dignified, noble man-about town. Oswald Cobblepot! Mover and shaker!
In actual fact he's a short, brutal guttersnipe who has no idea how utterly ridiculous he is.
People make him WAY too weak and effeminate. I can believe in men with freeze-guns or even guys who can turn into a grotesque bat-human hybrid. But a mincing, bumbling coward becoming the leader of the 'old' mob is stupid.
He had to do terrible things to get there, he probably has to do terrible things to stay on top as well.

I love Tim Curry, a brilliant actor who could play a number of roles. Calendar Man, Rupert Thorne, and I could especially imagine him as a really sick and twisted Hugo Strange.

Hugo strange is growing on my everyday...

I mean if he really is going to go nutso and start to think he's batman, what a great way to clear the real bats of all of those murders or keep dents secret quiet (or would this be complicating things) all the while working for the police and their new Batman task force leader:

Sarah Essen.

Her inclusion would give gordon an even more prominent role, as he tries to hide his feelings for sarah, be loyal to the bat, AND all the while knowing her one job is to lead this Batman finding task force...that sounds kinda cool!

Lastly, do you think Nolan may tweak or combine characters...Im thinking if you combine Bane and Deadshot, you get an awesome character. Keep the name Bane but make him a suave guy, like Deadshot was out of costume, and lean the costume overall towards Deadshot (since bane looks like a luchador wrestler) and have him start off as an assassin for hire but over the course of the film, his intentions become clear: to rule gotham's underworld.

Bane could also be combined with Black Mask as well, for great results

Just a though and something i wouldn't put past The Nolan...

Ummmm....no...let's not combine villains that might be the worst idea I've ever heard on this forum, and I've heard alot of bad ideas here.

Um, Nolan combined Ra's Al Ghul with Henri Ducard. And his rendition of Flass is clearly modeled on Bullock visually and in attitude.

There is one villain combo that I think would work well and it is Zsasz and Calendar Man. Calendar Man commiting crimes on days coinciding with the calendar is a brilliant concept but he doesn't kill and is hardly see as a real threat. For that reason, I've always wanted to see him combined with Zsasz where the character murders on holidays and when he kills people he carves marks into his skin. Basically it is just taking the Zsasz character with his sadistic scarring methods and having him kill on Holidays. Sure, the characters work just fine alone but combining them just makes it very zodiac-esque.

Top Choices:
Hugo Strange, Black Mask

Good Alternatives:
Deadshot, Bane, Penguin

I actually think combining Hugo Strange and The Reaper would be kind of cool.

worst idea? really? i mean really?:oldrazz:

glad some people like it...it does make sense and remember its not comics canon, its making the best possible film.

EXAMPLE:

If i LOVED the BANE character and wanted to use him but HATED his backstory or his backstory because it wouldn't fit the world i created in my first two films, i could just make him into more of a Deadshot character. cool as hell and charming outside the costume but all business and homicidal inside. (I'm thinking of deadshot's portrayal in JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED: SUICIDE SQUAD episode)..but you would keep banes thirst to secretly conquer the gotham city underworld. Cool right?

i dont put it past nolan to do this...

It's funny when i watched Tom Hardy in Bronson the thought of a demented version of bane always pop up in my mind

but he also have a good suave look he can pretty much be any body - but I'd say bane would be awesome if he's done correctly.

Seriously? Some of you would like to see Man Bat in this movie?
YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT? I voted for him, buddy! :cmad: I think I may have been somehow inebriated at the time, as I don't remember doing it, but I still stand beside the decision that I apparently made!

I'd like to see something that hasn't been done before combined with something that has.

Hugo Strange, Black Mask, Deadshot

Penguin, Catwoman, Bane, and Zsasz

Something old, something new... Lex Luthor could be something borrowed. And... dammit, if Nolan wasn't against Mr. Freeze, we could have something blue.

If that doesnt work then adjust his history, no need to combine him with another character.

His outfit is pretty basic, no sleeves, mask, boots and pants. I prefer a black, white and red color scheme. I wouldnt mind seeing something like this if Bane where on film, this isnt mind, it was made by a user here it came off his blog, i cant remember the username.

Though personally id like to see his mouth covered

The unthinkable has happened. I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Black Mask as the movie's main villain, because of his rivalary with Catwoman and his potential as a Freak Mob Boss.

If anyone can make a bland character interesting, It's Nolan.

At this point once you use ra's, the joker, and two-face I'm really not to picky with who they choose because those 3 IMO are his best villains. I'm not crazy about black mask but there really isn't much choice left because they are more or less b and c list villains.

Seriously? Some of you would like to see Man Bat in this movie?
I dont mind him in the comics and animated series, but somehow i find the idea of a huge bat terrifying, so i dont think he'll be in PG13 movie. I still remember that giant bat from Batman Forever's cut scenes.

Catwoman has a huge rivalry with Hush as well.

In my humble opinion....I personally cannot understand WHY anyone would be excited if Hugo Strange is the main villain of TDKR....he is nowhere as visually/psychologically interesting as the Joker, Scarecrow, Two-Face....or even Ra's. It seems to me it would be like a step back....

I mean, I loved BTAS episode where Strange discovers' Bruce identity...but hasn't that ground been covered with Coleman Reese?

I'd like to see the return of the Scarecrow...in combination with more "freaks"....and for this to be a VERY personal Batman movie...I'd like to see more ground covering Bruce's parents.....I'd love to see Catwoman....and possibly Bane done correctly, hunting the Batman.

It was done before and I thought it worked very well so I wouldnt mind it. We already had the characters combined like Joker/Joe Chill, Ras Al Ghul/Henri Ducard and Scarecrow/Dr. Arkham

Please. For the love of god. No more villains for Mark Strong! He was the villain in SHERLOCK HOLMES, KICK-ASS, ROBIN HOOD, one of the villains in GREEN LANTERN the villain in JOHN CARTER OF MARS.

And I'm sure I'm forgeting a villain or two...

The Reaper sucks donkey balls. Seriously now!

Please. He's WAY more cinematic than Black Mask. An apparently supernatural slasher would be far more exciting than Black Mask. A wealthy mob guy in a mask. Yay! :whatever:
