Visualizing A Superman Reboot: Pictures Welcome

I like the comic shield, I've always thought it was perfect:O Even though few artist drew exactly like it, I think it's what they were aiming for. Some artist are just horrible at drawing \S/'s....like Jim Lee. But, the Singer \S/ is fine.

The comic S looks like it has been stencilled out to me, Singer's S looks like it can be drawn naturally (And I do find it easier to draw)
Why would Superman's shield be drawn on his costume naturally?
I don't even think you can call that the comic S. Very few artists draw it like that and to be honest Singer's S looks far more like how artists have been drawing it for years.
Wha? Artists draw it like that all the time. Jim Lee seemed to have started a trend where the bottom tip of the S is squared off, but other than that, how has the general shape of the shield been rendered any differently in the comics over the past 20 years?

And for the record, that John Byrne sample in the above graph is crap, obviously taken from the cover of MOS #1, which isn't a good representation of how it actually looks in the comic at all. For a good representation, look at the cover to MOS #5 posted above (albeit it's stretched horizontally) or Curt Swan's shield (Byrne's is bigger in size, but it's the same design).

Don't act like a complete ******. You know what I mean.

Of course it is similar, but very few artists have represented the S in that fashion. Alex Ross is the only one I can think off the top of my head. The chart shows a lot of S's that resemble Singer's S much more.

The Reeve symbol actually looks more like the one above it to me. Also, it should include other comic versions since Byrne's in continuity like Jim Lee's.

Not really, since it makes no sense.

Then you should probably read more Superman comics, and pay a little more attention to the artwork.

Hell, this very cover right here shows the shield done in the way I'm referring to twice; once in the corner and once on his chest:

Yes... but the majority of them are from sources outside of the mainstream (post crisis) comics, which means they don't count for squat, since I was only comparing SR's shield to the one in the comics.

Superman is not a real person. He is a drawing. Are you getting this?

I get it, I disagree, so I must be wrong.

So you are saying pre-crisis doesn't count? 50 years of comics are to be discounted? That's history. Without pre-crisis your precious post-crisis Superman won't be here today.

In fact i'm done arguing with you, because anybody who discounts the very thing that made the character popular in today's culture is not worth my time. Anybody who discounts evidence just because it doesn't agree with his view of a drawing is officially a waste. Any posts in reply to this one shall be ignored.

I still don't get your reasoning behind saying that Superman's shield has to look like it's been drawn "naturally." An artist should take the time to make the emblem look like it was done professionally. What's wrong with that?

Wow, you really take these things personally. You should probably see a doctor or something :csad:. This is just a message board. Are you getting this?

And for the record, it's not about you disagreeing, it's about what's fact in how artists have drawn Superman's shield in the modern comics, as per my original comparison, which you seem to ignore.

Jeez, when did I say that at all?

I make one comparison to a specific period of Superman's history (never once insulting other time periods; in fact, I did mention Curt Swan's art in a positive light), and you start crying about everything. Get a life.

HAHAHAHA!!! Just like in other threads I've seen around here, you really get a kick out of putting words in other posters' mouths to imagine that they typed something that they didn't, just for the sake of you arguing with them. Keep it up, you'll go far.

This is how id love to see the suit look in the movies...

If we're talking about the shield, Wikipedia has an interesting comparison chart:-

Personally, I'd say that out of all those shield's pictured on the chart, the SR 'S' more closely resembles the George Reeves 'S' shield.

great post

nice, but I doubt we're gonna see him in the sequel...

Those are some damn nice manips...but I don't think we'll see Welling in a sequel. I do think we'll see Welling in the suit by the end of Smallville, that will be damn cool.
