Voltron: The Movie

Yeah I guess that's what they are going for. But the script still sucks.

The simple solution is to not make Thunderbirds or Speed Racer.

Agreed.. An adult themed Voltron movie is what I'm asking for.

Finally read the script. You were totally right. It was like they wrote that script with a rock!! At this point, they might as well hand it over to Zak Penn or Simon Kineberg.:csad:

Now that other people have read it, I'm glad people realize I'm not making this up to be a hater. This is the unfortunate reality.

Latino Review has NO credibility.

yeah you can tell from the way the article was written that something smells like bs

I do believe El Mayimbe gave the same grade to the Transformers script.

It's been leaked around, but we can't really give out the link.

I've never taken what you've said as just "being a hater." Clearly you were a fan of the show growing up and what it done with justice.

I passed it on to a friend who loved the show too. He even thought it was the biggest piece of crap EVER!! He was more disappointed in the ages of each...He still hasn't really explained why. He was semi-upset that we don't see Voltron til the last 45 minutes.

Producers of The Dark Knight and The International Reform Voltron

Atlas Entertainment is developing a live-action Voltron movie. Producers Charles Roven (The Dark Knight), Richard Suckle (The International) and Steve Alexander have acquired the rights to make a film based on the Japanese anime property after several years in development at various production companies.

The live-action project has been in development since 2004, and interest skyrocketed after the box office success of Michael Bay’s Transformers. Mark Gordon had been developing the project, and geek screenwriter Justin Marks had written a screenplay which adapted the idea as an alien invasion film based on Earth. The project was set up at New Regency but last year was put into turnaround. Relativity Media came on board briefly (One Last Dance helmer Max Makowski was attached to direct), before Atlas acquired the rights.

While talking with Risky Biz, World Events’ Ted Koplar, another producer on the project, compared it to Transformers, saying that “unlike other robotic action movies, ‘Voltron’ is the personification of the human spirit, a quality that will set this movie apart.”

The project has not yet been set up at a studio, but considering that Atlas Entertainment has a overall deal with Warner Bros, its not hard to imagine it ending up there. Warner Bros is also developing another big robot film, Robotech. If both projects do end up at the same studio, it will be interesting to see which one gets pushed into production first (and what that might mean to the second project).

The Voltron concept could be cool if it isn’t dumbed down and geared towards children (worse case scenario is something closer to the Power Rangers). People want to see big giant robots fighting aliens and destroying all that lay in their path. This could be that movie. Plus, unlike Transformers, there is a human element which is already interconnected to the story. I had not read MArks script, but it certainly sounded like good from the descriptions.

It’s not clear if Marks script will be completely abandoned (my educated guess is yes), but it was described as “a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico” which follows “five ragtag survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth’s invaders.” LatinoReview called the script “a ****ing masterpiece” and CinemaBlend called it “a well put together, well intentioned, incredibly faithful Voltron script using modern sensibilities.”

Sorry. Power Rangers would be a more interesting movie than this.

Assuming Atlas works in unison with Warner Brothers (as they have a contract according to /film) it would be smart for them to sell this as the anti-Transformers in the sense that it will still be giant robots and such but with smarter summer movie dialogue and plot that doesn't make the audience want to grab a revolver to their head every time the bots aren't on screen.

This can definitely work and I'm glad its in far better hands than this project was in before.

I mean Marks the guy who wrote Chun Li? Seriously!? No wonder this production was at a stand still.

Far more competency behind this movie now.

What bothers me is that this guy is still in charge of writing the script for "Shadow of the Colossus" a video game adaptation that I think is a really bad idea.

Loved the game but just the fact that Marks was hired immediately informs me that Sony just wants to make some loud action summer monster movie.

He is also writing the script for "Super Max"...

Geesh, why anyone would hire this guy is beyond me.

As long as they get a new writer there is still a chance that this could turn out decent.

I'll wait to see what plans they have for this property before I start assuming it will suck.

They will Throw out Marks Script and get new writers on this.. which will be the best thing for this project

So this Marks guy is the one who also scripted Chun Li and Masters of the Universe? If so he needs to be blacklisted. Sad thing is he's young and grew up with these properties. Shows that just because someone's a fan or fanboy doesn't mean they will do these comic/anime/video game films justice.

i don't think he's a bad writer but more of an average writer who networked through Hollywood via David Goyer. From what I know about Marks (who's like 25), he was working under Goyer and Goyer just gave him a shot.

The problem I have with Marks' writing is that they're all the friggin' same. I've read Supermax, Masters of the Universe, and Chun Li and they ALL have the same structure. I swears it's Writing 101 over in film school with all three scripts. And there's an intense lack of characterization in all of them. Oliver Queen as the Green Arrow should have been one of the most interesting characters in Supermax; but he's not. He's just a blank canvas.

I would love to be in Marks' shoes of course, but he needs to grow. He needs to write some dramas or a smaller project. As of right now, he's becoming a one trick pony.

Marks is a terrible screenwriter and reporters try to sell him as "one of us" by calling him a geek. His only produced screenplay is one of the worst, biggest bombs I've ever seen.

No one wants to see a Voltron movie. The script and concept for the movie is terrible.
