Was anyone else moved by Magneto's love/respect for Xavier?

I loved X3...IMHO not as good as X2 but its close.

One of my favorite aspects of X3 however was how they showed that Magneto despite all of his differences with Xavier STILL had his feeling of brotherhood with him and was legitimately saddened by his death.

Along with the actual death scene, that part where he scolded Pyro for saying that he would've killed the Prof. had Mags given him the opportunity really speaks volumes about their past friendship.

That whole Prof. X death scene when the whole thing was happening, my jaw had dropped...I was shocked and saddened at what I was witnessing...hearing Wolverine call out for Xavier was expected but what really got my emotions going was when you even heard Magneto crying out for Jean to stop...man I really liked that aspect, showing that at the end of the day Mags still cared for Xavier.

Thoughts?

I wept openly.
But when I got as far as clawing at the curtains on the side walls while shouting "Blood is thicker than water" and urinating on myself.... I was escorted out.

Yes....it was a scene I was hoping to see. Magneto's love and respect for Xavier is one of the things that sets him apart from the shallow villains in other movies and comics.

Big time. They weer always friends & Magneto just saw them as at odds but still basically wanting the same thing.

i totally agree, the best thing about X3 (and X-Men story) is how it shows the respect between two old best friends.... moments where Magneto called out for Jean to stop and when he scolded Pyro, those worth the price admission alone

Wow. 2 moments... 10 seconds... to worship a friendship that has lasted over 40 years.
Yup, that's pretty touching.

I think that's another thing this movie did VERY well - getting to the heart of Xavier and Magneto's relationship. I loved the scene in Jean's house and also when Magneto put Pyro in his place when he said "Charles Xavier did more for mutant kind...."

Actually it was probably closer to 10 minutes (BOTH scenes of Jean at home & Pyro's scolding)

And it was 10 minutes more than Singer ever gave the Mags/Xavier relationship...excluding the X1 opening scene...

(I LOVE ALL 3 FILMS)

The idea that Magneto wasn't leaving Charles to his death in X2 is absurd.

While Magneto does have respect for Charles (as opposing generals might) Charles was still in opposition to Magneto's methods and ultimate goals. If Magneto could limit or outright remove Charles, he'll do it for the advancement of his goals.

In X2, Charles was stuck in an illusion by mutant 143 to 'find the humans' and kill them all through Cerebro. Magneto taps his fingers on Charles wheelchair, says "Goodbye Charles," and leaves him in a room he can't physically get out of and an illusion he can't get out of-143 will just try try again and he already succeeded anyways.

Nothing on film translated into Magneto giving Charles a means to escape: there was no amount of time given where all the humans would die and Cerebro made 'useless' and Charles stopping what he's doing, no mention that 143 would stop his illusion making and that Charles would get out of it, Magneto's tone of voice and gesture did not foretell his survival-it was a goodbye, and Magneto closed the frickin' door on him.

Magneto left Charles in a situation that would have led to his death-physically and mentally incapacitiated for all intents and purposes.

Um...the X-men were still there. He only closed the door so Xavier can used Cerebro most effectively.

In X1, Mystique could have killed Xavier, but only incapicated him to prevent him from using Cerebro. Magneto would never be cruel enough to kill Xavier.

I Was Going To Point That Out. Otherwise He Would've Made Damn Sure To Incapacitate The X-men Before Carrying Out That Part Of The Plan, & There Was More Than Enough Metal In The Facility For Him To Do So. The Way I See It, He Figured They'd Rescue Xavier But By Then It'd Be Too Late & The Humans Would Be Gone.

Let's not forget the ending scene. Or his attempts at friendly banter when they met up in X2.

charles x - martin luther king
magneto - malcom x

MLK - civial rights through peaceful means
malcom x - by any means nessasary

I don't think so. He left him in Cerebro which was a safe environment as far as Magneto knew. He wasn't aware of the dam breaking. Once all the humans were dead, that wouldn't have affected Xavier.

So I'm pretty sure he wasn't intending to kill him. 'Goodbye Charles' signified that he thought they would most likely never see each other again if Xavier had actually killed all humans due to Magneto.

I have 1 big problem w/that comparison; Malcolm was influenced by the ministers who recruited him & spoke what they spoke. When he saw the error of his ways & reversed his position they had him killed. Magneto is the originator of his cause-not a follower but a leader, & has never once recanted anything he's said, which would make him more like Elijah Mohammed.

I think those parts were hints that Erik may be rethinking his path after the events of x3. He has utmost respect for him when a kid like pyro comes along and disses him.

I loved the relationship between the two, and was fitting that Magneto was the one to yell for Jean to stop. But like all generals, the show must go on, hence him recruiting Jean, despite her being the murderer

you're right, but malcolm is used more because he's much more iconic than mohammed. while malcolm was just speaking mohhamads words, the people folllowed malcolm. at least thats what i think,

It's a rarity that I say this to you, but you're right. That is why. Malcolm was more in the spotlight while Elijah manipulated from behind the scenes. Still, it's a more accurate comparison.
