Comics Was it a good idea to destroy the Parker marriage?

Jeez! can we all just agree that this was a cheesy retcon. no matter what way you look at it The mephisto marriage deal was an excuse to rearrange things the way they wanted without thinking hard. i haven't enjoyed spidey since the bagley/larsen days.
Someone wrote (they'll replace fans like me.)
they might just do that,
but the funny thing is I won't be introducing my future kids, or any kids for that matter to this "brand new joephisto day". so try replacing a family *shakes fist*

I barely feel the need to read the next issue now. as way off from the spidey mythos as jms got, at least he kept my interest. the only thing that keeps me reading is the need to know what im talking about on these boards.

Pete and MJ didn't get married, but they still stayed together.

It's kind of like gay marriage in the states:

"You guys can have everything the same as married couples, except you can't call it marriage."

That's what Peters history is. Except, they forgot, that if you live together for 5 years (that's what it's around in Canada, anywho) you're are common law married. So like....yeah.

they're not putting in her the comics a lot because they're trying to put some seperation between her and Pete and the fans.

If they don't show her too much, they think the fans might forget easier that the devil stole their marriage.

this is a fresh (ha!) reboot so they're trying to emphasize the new cast, and not dwell on the large number of people mindwiped that no longer know pete/spidey and were his large cast before.

Yeah, she picked up some of MJ's catchphrases from some TV show she used to be in. That was the whole point of the scene: to establish why someone who isn't MJ would sometimes talk like MJ.

there was no reveal. so it could swing either way.
but if Jackpot is Sarah and they are keeping us in the dark to reveal that...than this will indeed top sins past and omd in terms of bad storytelling.

And if Sara Erhet, or anyone else, is Jackpot, then the reader's response to Marvel will be, "Why in the world do I want to read about a character whose whole shtick is that she pretends she's Mary Jane? What makes you think I want to read about this wannabe over the real thing?"

Marvel has lost there minds. All of the things that they claim "could not have been done with the marriage intact" truly suck.

Now they've jumbled up continuity (which is my biggest problem with BND. why bother creating a continuity if your just going to continue to ignore it? )
just to add crappy story plots that fans will eventually hate or think is lame. I have no clue whats going on with marvel right now.

It seems the problem is Ultimate Spider-man doing better than amazing. Joey Q. seems to think since a 15 year old can break up with a normal 15 year old girl and date a super power 15 year old girl.

that must be what everybody wants to see.

And he stretches. And he's skinny. Now Venom has an archenemy!" Or "Hey, fans are really liking this Ben Reilly clone. Let's tease the readers more about whether or not he's the real deal by stocking the title with even MORE Spider-Man clones." Likewise, it's "Hey, even though we're getting rid of the marriage, fans really like MJ. So let's give them somebody who looks and acts and talks like MJ does but put her in a disco outfit and give her superpowers and have the readers guess whether she is or isn't MJ for months on end. If only to get those crazy Peter/MJ shippers off our backs."

I know you can't please everyone...but a good writer doesn't over expose stuff. sheesh.

But it only gave a possible origin, at the end of the last ezekial arc, Peter was still in most ways not convinced of the magic.

Off-topic:

Last two chapters of One More Day came in mail today, ( finnish Spider-Man has two american issues, and yes, were way behind of you) and I have to say that it truly was worst Spider-Man story I have ever read. I don't think that BND is so bad, but the way it's done is afwul. But I will continue reading Spider-Man because he is so awesome. Now I'll list my personal pros' and con's of BND:

Pros':
Spidey isn't anymore wannabe Batman. IMO Spider-Man shouldn't be dark character.
New writers and artists. JMS was getting dull.
Spider-Man's identity is secret again.

Con's:
No more MJ.
No more (similar) friendship with DD
Unnecessary resurrection of Harry. Why was it done? No one missed him or anything.
Not even Goblin knows Spidey's identity.
Nothing after marriage matters anymore! Sure, people can have false memories that are similar to real events, but still it erases everything from past. I started reading Spider-Man just before Millenium, that means that all the stories I read as a child didn't happen! Thanks a lot, MARVEL.


It felt good to get that from my chest. Thank you for reading.
