The Dark Knight WB to go with new marketing plan

This whole thing reminds me of the Terri Schiavo case.... Maybe actors and actresses should start writing out living wills before they start shooting a movie about how the studio should handle the marketing campaign in case they pass away during or after filming... :yay:

The stage that I believe that they are at right now is editing and putting music onto the scenes.

Those are always the last bits that they have to do.

Also the other stuff that they might be doing right now is all of the CGI and special effects for the action scenes and stuff.

The movie can be re-edited before it's release.

I honestly doubt that there is going to be any change to the marketing of the movie, i mean look on these boards merchandise is already showing up with heath's face all over it, and to recall all of that would cost a hell of a lot of money, secondly, i don't think warner brothers or 42 entertainment are for one second thinking of dishonouring the fantastic work that heath's done in this role by making him a background player in the marketing campaign, i honestly believe that had he still been here, this time next year we'd probably be seeing heath ledgers name in the oscar nods for this film, from what i've seen and read. But i digress, too much money has been spent already and the fan support is too great for them to turn a blind eye and not use a big selling factor for their movie, as a tribute if nothing more to a wonderful, charismatic actor.

If they keep marketing solely around the Joker, the general public will think the studio is exploiting his death by keeping the marketing focus on Heath.

That's why the general public are considered morons.

I'm not sure if I'm in the minority or not, but I think they should continue with the Joker viral marketing.

I mean, this is probably Ledger's best role... ever. They need to ramp it up, showcase him. He's passed on, but they should show just how brilliant he was.

I think the Joker stuff was getting a tad repetitive anyway. Concentrate on Dent or dare I say it, even Batman in the next round of publicity.

It would be nice to see just a black screen with a double sided coin in the center. During some new contest, the coin flips after awhile and reveals a piece of Harvey's face. Flip the coin enough and you get a full image of him.

Found this interesting...I am sure WB will make an annoucement soon regarding the marketing. That, or they will just move ahead with the marketing as planned and that will be how we know everything is moving along as planned. Anyways, here is the article:

The Fate of The Dark Knight
Searches Surge for Heath Ledger as The Joker
By Molly McCall

For months now, buzz has been building for "The Dark Knight," the next edition of the "Batman" film franchise. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the upcoming movie stars Christian Bale as Batman—and Heath Ledger as The Joker.

Advertising for the blockbuster release, which will hit theaters in July, has focused on Ledger's grisly, battered-looking super villain. Now, as The Wall Street Journal says, "the actor's death puts into question the future of the Joker-centric marketing push... and whether Warner Bros. will change tactics rather than risk a negative response." AFP quoted one source as saying that the dilemma the studio finds itself in is "unprecedented in the modern era."

We don't know how people will respond to the movie's marketing or its release, but the fate of the film and the look of Ledger's bruised bad guy have electrified searchers. After news broke of Ledger's shocking death, queries for "heath ledger" catapulted upwards. The next most sought-out search was "heath ledger joker." Since his death, demand for the actor's portrayal of the criminal mastermind has surged nearly 3,600%.

Over the past week, we've also logged massive spikes in terms like "batman the dark knight joker," "heath ledger joker pictures," and "heath ledger as the new joker." General queries, such as "dark knight movie" and "batman the dark knight trailer," have skyrocketed.

One of the posters for the movie features an image of the Caped Crusader's arch foe scrawling "Why so serious?" in blood. Yesterday, "the dark knight why so serious" surged. For as long as Ledger's death remains in the news, there will surely be intensified focus on the film. What happens after that, and how seriously audiences respond to the summer release and its greasecaked clown criminal, remains to be seen.
"Warner Bros. has announced that The Dark Knight will keeps its release date of July 18th. Sources say that marketing was going to revolve around Heath's character, so that is being reworked."

his death is more important then the movie, i want to make that clear, but i was looking foward to what the WB was going to do with markerting campaign with the joker, the viral stuff has been crazy.

Oh well, life is more important than a 2 hr movie
I'd like to know what reputable source would use the phrase, "...will keeps its release date..."

Ok gangsta.

I'd really like to see more of Heath, but I'll understand if they decide to change the marketing plan.

They should go full steam with what they intended from the start im sure we still want to see more "why so serious" posters and whatnot its the Joker batmans nemesis in TDK you cant just rework the marketing to lessen his appearance it wont make sense imo.

Did Heath Ledger finish vocals on 'Dark Knight'?

Jan 26, 2008, 10:01 PM | by Kristen Baldwin

While the late Heath Ledger's family and friends tend to the sad details of his burial this weekend, a debate is ripping through Internet fan sites about what will stand as Ledger's last completed film, the Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight (due to open on July 17th). The burning question is, how complete was Ledger's post-production work on the maniacal character of the Joker?

On Jan. 25th, E! Online gossip columnist Ted Casablanca posted an item quoting a "studio insider" saying that Ledger had done "zero" post-production looping on the movie. (Typically, an actor re-records many lines for a film long after principal photography wraps, in a process called "automated dialogue replacement," or ADR. It's an especially extensive process when many shots have been filmed on location, since all kinds of incidental noise can interfere with the dialogue's clarity and can require up to three-quarters of the lines to be re-performed on a dubbing stage, with the actor looking up at the film images and matching his or her own mouth movements.) But Ledger's vocals are perfectly clear in the bits of footage so far released—trailers and a prologue bank-robbery sequence shown with IMAX prints of I Am Legend. Fan websites like Ain't-It-Cool-News, Superherohype.com and Batman-on-Film.com are full of assertions contrary to the Casablanca report, saying that in fact Ledger was done with all significant looping. Ledger himself, while promoting the Todd Haynes film I'm Not There last fall, had said he was finished with his work on Dark Knight.

Still, given the way post-production schedules usually run on mega-budget superhero films, it's not out of the realm of possibility that director Chris Nolan might have wanted to call on Ledger for limited additional sessions with more than six months to go before opening weekend. Directors often decide to insert new bits of dialogue in post-production for the sake of clarity and economy. Doing anything like that now with Ledger's Dark Knight role would require hiring another voice actor to emulate his speaking voice, or creating a complicated mash-up from Ledger's existing dialogue tracks. (Both of these alternate approaches have been taken in similar past situations, as when Oliver Reed passed away before the completion of Gladiator and James Dean died before the release of Giant.)

Dark Knight director Chris Nolan and execs at Warner Bros., the studio releasing the film, were not available for comment, and have not issued any public statements about the status of the movie. EW placed a call to Oscar-winning sound designer and sound editor Richard King, who's handling the Dark Knight audio work, but he declined to comment. According to several other sound-mixing experts who also declined to speak on the record, there's no way to tell what the situation is with Dark Knight from the outside, since the amount of ADR required, and the timetable for doing it, varies wildly between films. (In plenty of instances, looping is not completed until very close to the final release date, perhaps as little as a month or two out.) Ledger had been working in London on Terry Gilliam's film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which meant he was close to Dark Knight director Chris Nolan's home turf and might well have been available if needed.

Warner Bros. has temporarily pulled back on some of the promotional material centered on Ledger's creepy whiteface makup as the Joker, keyed to the tagline "Why So Serious"? It remains to be confirmed whether the film's technical wrapup will require a new game plan as well.

AH! What! Sounds like there trying to say hes not done

They are quoting E! So right there they have nothing backing it up. We have sources interviews, and a video of Heath himself saying he was done with the film. Thats why the mods locked that other thread. There is nothing it seems to be worried about.

But is it true that films arent completely done looping until two months before there release?

Of course things aren't finalized until the film gets to theaters, but I'm pretty confident that as of now, they don't need to re-dub Heath's parts.

Maybe Nolan will want to change things in the future, but he might be able to work around it, who knows. It depends on the director. Nolan strikes me as being one of those methodical ones who plans ahead on everything.

I hope your right

I can't believe people are still getting worked up over this rumor.

He was FINISHED. Move on :oldrazz:
