Well....Shawn Levy is Directing the Flash

WB had blunder after blunder this past year with Posiedon being the biggest,


But Levy just doesn't feel right. I mean it isn't as though he has ever directed something serious....his resume is all comedy.

Meanwhile Hulk 2 gets the grit of Louis Letierier, and the genious both comic and dark and serious Favreau.

Wheadon would have been spot on for WW..... Goyer may not have been perfect for Flash, but Levy seems Way off the road

Business-wise, they're playing it 'safe' and not trying to take any risks with this property. They want Levy to make another 'Night at the Museum' or 'Cheaper By the Dozen' type film, which will bring in the money. I wish they would not play it so safe though.

Ahhh isn't this debate fun t:....I'm glad DC is finally taking action to get more of their characters on the big screen like Marvel, but this is definitely a serious RISK. Flash might not have the same iconic status as the big two of the DC universe, but they shouldn't mess with it. Its tone is probably much lighter than Batman, and there are lots of directors out there that could still make it a serious film. But Shawn Levy, a guy best known for kiddie blockbusters, that's just going right back to Batman and Robin. So I can understand why so many fans are upset. Comedy and/or light hearted moments are good in moderation as long as it stays loyal to the character, like they've done with Spiderman. This is meant for another thread, but Goyer might do better with Green Lantern because it has the potential to be darker than the Flash.
Not that its gonna be a hit, but I won't go off and badmouth WB just yet. When Michael Keaton was cast as Batman, people were doing the same thing because he was only known for comedy and they didn't want more Adam West campy style. But he pulled it off and is now considered one of the best guys to play Batman in history. And everyone talked about how a movie based on a Disneyland ride like "Pirates" would bomb, but it did no such thing.

Oh my god people like you are acting like I am saying the studio should aim to lose money. I say make all the money you want BUT ALSO MAKE IT A GREAT MOVIE. Is that so hard a goal?? Or has it become that people continue and continue make these **** movies number one at the box office? Yeah that is it **** everyone who wants a fantastic quality film and just make a pile of **** that is marketed out the ass and gets the family audience.

You do know that Goyer was going to direct The Flash, right?
And great movie and Goyer don´t go well in the same sentence, ot have people forgoten one of the worst crappy movie since Batman & Robin, going by the name of Blade Trinity.

Louis Letierer made The Transporter and Unleashed, and all of a sudden he is amazing.
Favreau is, all of a sudden a genius, when the man as not made one piece of crap so far that say that he is anywhere good to handle Iron Man.
Elf and Zathura weren´t it, not even by a fu**ing mile, in fact, they were light comedies like what Shawn Levy makes (i´m not comparing both, so don´t give me that crap).

I wish both the best, hell i wish the three the best, but to call Favreau a genius....

While, I think this is an interesting turn of events. Levy really isn't known for dramas, just mostly comedies. I can't say I was disappointed when Goyer left, because I think his version of The Flash would been much more darker than I'd like for that character. The Flash I remember is a fun, laid-back character and not as broody like Batman or majestic like Superman. (I haven't read any Flash comics, but I did see the '90s show and Justice League.)

Like others said, I'm holding my breath until I hear what the story is about (or who is writing the new script). Besides, The Flash is the sort of character that's right up Levy's alley... who knows, maybe Levy is a fan of the character and jumped at the chance to do the movie. (Hey, if I was offered the chance to direct a Green Lantern movie, I would do it.)

And I did like Cheaper by the Dozen, even though it was manipulative and cheesy. But Just Married was pretty bad, though. Maybe this is the movie that shows Levy's range as a director...

I'm going to agree with this guy. I'm going to wait before I make a judgement on how the film will turn out. That said, I'm not really that enthusiastic about the director of choice here.

I don't know. I have some respect for Goyer, but let's be real, much of his talent is due to the directors he's worked with. Alex Proyas, Stephen Norrington, Guillermo Del Toro, these are guy who can take any "middle-of-the-road" script and make an imaginative, enganging film. They're also great visual storytellers. Goyer doesn't really have that going for him, not based on the films he's directed. Zig-Zag was an okay drama that didn't really require a lot of visual flair, but when the time came to direct Blade Trinity, you could tell he had no real idea what he was doing. People worry about Levy infusing the Flash with too much comedy, Goyer went out of his way to put as many comedic actors as he could in Blade Trinity. Two of which are Christopher Guest regulars!! And for the most part, the comedy is flat and out of place. Reynolds' one-liners got tiresome, but he was at least tolerable. John Michael Higgins DID NOT need to be in this movie!

I'll see what Goyer's done with The Invisible. as that seems to have a pretty edgy tone to it. I'll have to check out the remake if I can.

Who knows how this will end up. This could be a good move but Flash has yet to get off the ground of anything besides trying to write a script. I hope Goyer is going to make a Green Lantern film.

While I agree that this is horrible news for the Flash, I don't really get the word "dark" kept getting brought up. Flash isn't exactly what I'd call dark. "Lighter" doesn't necessarily mean "worse", it's just that the lighter films we've seen (like FF) have been poorly directed, written and acted. Again, I'm in no way backing this guy, but I'm just saying that it's not "light" films that are bad, it's just ****in' stupid ones. A light-hearted, yet touching and real story can be told without being a total piece of crap.

Come on, Chris Evans killed as Johnny Storm. His interactions with The Thing (and the special effects) were the best part of FF.

I'm sure if they get the right person to play Flash, we'd be in for a similar treat. I just don't understand what motivates these studios to give comic book franchises to comedy directors. Favreau getting Iron Man? Tim Story getting the Fantastic Four franchise? Now this guy gets The Flash? It's just weird.

I don't think that Flash was ever really a true dark comic (like Batman). The direction that Goyer was taking it would have only limited the returns at the box office. If you look at films like "Harry Potter", POTC, FF, "The Incredibles", and "Spiderman", they were more family friendly and normally did way better than any equivalent dark film. Just face it. Dark films are a pretty risky proposition if you need to spend a lot of money to produce them. Why not better your chances at getting your money back on the investment by broadening your market size?

I agree. Superman: The Movie (1978) is another example of a light movie.. It did have camp with Luthor, but there were great moment like Krypton and Smallville where Pa Kent died and the earthquake where Lois died thatt were serious.
I am going to wait before passing any kind of judgment. I want more information first.

Its just simple logic...if you want a cake go to a baker. If you want to take a flight talk to a pilot. If you want an Action Packed Superhero Blockbuster...you most definately DO NOT go to the mediocre comedy man.

They're getting it wrong from the get-go. Its like Tim Story the Sequel. I dont want this dude "Practicing" his Action/Adventure directing skillz on my boy The Flash. He deserves a veteran who knows what he's doing.

I wasn't exactly thrilled about him either. I'm tired of seeing his name attached to 2 out of every 3 comic books movies getting announced out there.

but I wouldn't be complaining if it hadn't gone from bad (Goyer) to worst (Levy).
