I don't think that Flash was ever really a true dark comic (like Batman). The direction that Goyer was taking it would have only limited the returns at the box office. If you look at films like "Harry Potter", POTC, FF, "The Incredibles", and "Spiderman", they were more family friendly and normally did way better than any equivalent dark film. Just face it. Dark films are a pretty risky proposition if you need to spend a lot of money to produce them. Why not better your chances at getting your money back on the investment by broadening your market size?
Of course he wasn't as dark as Batman but I want to take the character seriously. Goyer was writing it with a realistic, gritty feeling to it and now it looks like we are getting something like Sky High.
So that is what it comes down to eh? Kids make them money so they are going to dumb down and fluff the material just for the dough. Wow how I love Hollywood these days.
