Well....Shawn Levy is Directing the Flash

I don't think that Flash was ever really a true dark comic (like Batman). The direction that Goyer was taking it would have only limited the returns at the box office. If you look at films like "Harry Potter", POTC, FF, "The Incredibles", and "Spiderman", they were more family friendly and normally did way better than any equivalent dark film. Just face it. Dark films are a pretty risky proposition if you need to spend a lot of money to produce them. Why not better your chances at getting your money back on the investment by broadening your market size?

Of course he wasn't as dark as Batman but I want to take the character seriously. Goyer was writing it with a realistic, gritty feeling to it and now it looks like we are getting something like Sky High. :( Your acting as if it was going to be rated R or something. I am pretty sure it was going to be just as dark as Spidey 3 is going to be.

So that is what it comes down to eh? Kids make them money so they are going to dumb down and fluff the material just for the dough. Wow how I love Hollywood these days.

This movie will now suck.

Didn't you read the piece in the Hollywood Reporter? Their sources said that he (Levy) 'has no intention of making "Flash" a comedy but is aiming for a lighter movie than previous Warners comic book adaptations, such as "Batman Begins" and "Superman Returns."' It also said that Goyer's Flash was dark-themed.

Kids don't necessarily make the money in the film industry, but it is smart to take less risk by enlarging your market size by including them as a demographic. If you don't recall, POTC beat the pants (or tights) off of "Superman Returns" this past summer and it was because of the fact that the film was more family friendly. Don't be foolish by saying that this shouldn't be for the dough.

It should be for dough but not at the cost of making a **** movie. But it is still early and while this looks awful I am gonna wait until we see and hear more.

It should be for more than the cost of making the movie. Why else would they be doing this? I will agree with you that it is still early and there is always the possibility that things will change, but I still thing that making a family friendly film is a very good strategy.

I said at the cost of making a S H I T movie.

I think you are the only one that is saying that and I don't think that it is true for POTC, FF, SM I & 2, and "The Incredibles". The revenue they brought in is a very good indication of how popular they were.

*SIGHS*

I wasn't talking about those movies. I have been talking solely about the Flash. But like I said while it looks like it is going in a S H I TTY direction it is still real early.

I don't know how you can tell without reading the screenplay.

From the things Goyer was saying, the direction he was taking it, and now the news of WB opting for something lighter and hiring a PG comedy director that is a ****ty direction for me personally and for many others it seems on here.

I think it's too early to tell as of yet and you premature ejaculations are only poisoning the minds of the readers here, making them form the wrong opinion about the film. Wait a few more months before you start drawing conclusions like that. For all we know Levy may just be managing the project (as director) and someone else will be writing. Just wait until the fog clears.

I already said I am going to wait and see mode. But if I and others wanna ***** then we are allowed just as the same as you and others are allowed to praise or look forward to it if you want.

And in the article it says that Levy will oversee the writing of the new draft just for you info.

HAHAHAHAH oh Christ, if this doesn't finally prove that the WB is filled to the brim with ******s who will never learn how badly they've fcked up until it bites them in the ass a la Batman & Robin and Catwoman, then I don't know what will.

Oh man, they are going to be so utterly

and I'm just going to laugh and laugh at them. First Whedon, now this...they'd better get their act together and quick.

Awful news: I'm shattered and going to miss Goyer terribly...this one is the worst rivelation since the Green Lantern spoof with Jack Black!

And look what happens when the writers on Transformers gets pushed aside when comes to directing and CGing: all the great ideas are gone, the classic look that made the Transformers great is gone, even the original voices weren't considered until the third draft, replaced by "cool" and "updated" "PG-minus-13" and laughable figures like there are now. I swear, as a Transformers fan, i need to head back to TA (transformers Anonymous) and then wait till the fog clears.
My point - a @#&-ed-up character that used to be lovable and cheered will get to be laughable and smeared when the movie sucked. Better stay with John Wesley Ship's Flash.

I don't mind Shawn as a director...but I would have wanted a dark Flash.

But then again we need the odd comical comic-book movie to lighten things up.

If it is done well, it will work well. If it is done badly, it won't work.

Let's hope it's done well

The Flash Tv Series was great.

It all depends how family friendly they want to go. Spiderman got it just right. There was dark dramatic bits and light comedic bits. Too much one way or the other and it would mess up the movie.

Reading his resume' it's hard not feel he's a terrible choice, not only is he primarily a comedy director but he is a bad comedy director IMO......still having said that we can only wait and see but i don't blame Flash fans for feeling this is going in a bad direction.

It´s kind weird that the report says Goyer´s script was dark-themed. I remember him saying in an interview that he wanted to do something lighter, more like Spider-Man, which I think would have worked fine. I can´t say I´m enthusiastic about having the guy whose greatest claims to fame are Pink Panther and Night At The Museum...

Hmmm. Something tells me this choice was motivated by the financial success of Night at the Museum and little to do with artistic integrity.

At least now we get to see the Flash get chased by poodles.

I hope Reynolds is still up for the role though.
yeah so do i. he's still my first choice. couldnt think of anyone else good enough to take on the role (well maybe except of Michael Rosenbaum)

have hope Hunter. remember that Peter Jackson wsa know for nothing more than B-movie horror flicks and one indie drama before taking on LOTR, and look at how that turned out. of course i'm not saying that we start expecting and epic Flash movie, just dont underestimate (or oeverestimate) directors based solely on their previous work. part of the reason why i'm a bit hopeful for Levy is that he certainly has the talent to tell a good story with morals but at the same time giving his audience a good time. thats something i'm looking forward to seeing in The Flash. as for the darker themed Fash i want that too, but thats what sequels are for :).

there was a poster on here named saint who stated that goyer was bounced cause he wrote a good script. I thought that, while saint's a good poster, who was overreacting.

i was wrong, and he was pretty damn right.

this movie...will suck. and WB hasnt learned a damn thing

Is there any chance Goyer's script will be released to the public so we can eventually compare his version to Levy's?
