What can DC/WB do now to move forward? Is there hope? - Part 1

Right now things are looking dicey - can you imagine what it'll be like in June if WW is under 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, and opens to less money than MoS?

I'm almost certain it will open to less than MoS, but I'm hoping for a solid RT score as well as good word of mouth to build the film through its first two weeks.

Make no mistake, both JL and WW need to hit it big for the DCEU. If either one fails, it's a huge blow to the confidence in this universe moving forward.

There's never going to be any chance for WB to right the ship if people don't give them the chance to do so.

I swear, it's like people are just not willing to actually wait for the next DCEU film to come out and see if WB learned anything or changed their approach at all. Even the attempts to make sure they're NOT making mistakes are spun into "The sky is falling!"

No amount of internet gawking will prevent 1) WB from getting their act together 2) A good movie from attracting an audience.

The product will speak for itself. If it's good, none of this panic will matter.

This here. Make a great movie, and all will be forgiven. Make a good movie and people will talk about whether the next one will be like the good movie or all the others.

I really don't think it's going to be good. Looks and feels more like Diana: Warrior Princess than WONDER WOMAN.

I just hope that when people inevitably start trashing it, it doesn't re-ignite the 'sexism' argument.

I am getting sort of a '90s Robert Tapert style TV show feeling from this incarnation of Wonder Woman. Right down to the costume. But then I did like the TV show, so maybe I will like this.

MOS opened at about 117mill and if one counts the walmart pre-sale tickets then the film opened at 132 million so if you'll be disappointed at the possibility of WW opening below that then you need a reality check.
If WW opens at anywhere near the 100 mill then it's a big victory for WB.

I'm more of a DC fan than Marvel and as much as I'd like for the DCEU to succeed I don't think Wonder Woman will make even half of what BvS did.

Just my personal opinion I don't care what anybody else matters but I don't care and never liked WW or any period film that takes place during WWII.

So a note for WB, the Justice League better impress the hell out of me.

It's the studio who is supposed to attract the audience. The audience is not supposed to be applauding the studio which constantly disappoints.

Doesn't disappoint me. As long as they're successful enough to keep making them that's all I care about. I've never been the majority target audience ans I got lucky with MCU but with CACW starting to see a drift. Hopefully for me DCEU will continue to take up the slack.

Most of the "mess" with The Batman is just website click bait.
The Batman has a script written by Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck that WB is pleased with.
WB has an excellent director in Matt Reeves that is probably better suited to direct The Batman anyway.
Ben Affleck is still going to star in the movie and is happy Matt Reeves will direct.
And Matt Reeves has joined Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck as the producers
So where exactly is The Batman a mess?

Seems as usual people take there own opinions as gospel. Movies are subjective the DCEU is 3/3 for me.

The original slate was plain and simply meant for investors and then doing movie schedules 5-6 years into the future became this big deal.

I could see that happening. Maybe WW and Aquaman are the ones who would be exceptions, with everything else is essentially Bat-world.

I do think Superman is effectively done for the time being as a solo property on film. I think Between Supergirl, Flash, Arrow etc on tv , I could see WB holding their horses and letting those properties play out longer, before turning their attention to another Superman, Flash, etc film.

I can't think of a single other solo property (from any brand) who necessitates a cinematic universe more than Batman. If a creator comes along who truly wants to tackle the lore from beginning to "end", there's plenty in the source material to propagate that and still be fresh for its conclusion.

I have been talking about how Batman can anchor his own universe for a while now.

all these characters have already proven in the comics that they can carry their own movie:
Batman
Batgirl
Catwoman
Robin
Nightwing
Harley Quinn/Gotham City Sirens
The Joker

I'm sure Batman could support his own cinematic universe, but honestly, I'd just see it as confirming that DC has no idea how to handle characters other than Batman outside of the comics.

Because honestly, there are times it feels that the rest of the DC universe only exists through Batman. We can get a Justice League Dark animated film, but only if Batman's on the cover, and the DC fighter has to have a fourth of the fighters Batman characters and half the stages in Gotham.

I do recall from the Sony leak, prior to doing the Marvel deal Sony wanted to basically create a Spider-man mini universe, with the goal of one Spider-Man based movie per year. I think the Sinister 6, Venom, and even an all female spider-man character team up ala Sirens where all in the cards.

The Sinister 6 where heavily referenced in ASM2, and even got teased in a credits montage.

Exactly. Of course WB/DC are going to invest their time and money in the property most likely to give the best return. As you say, it's business.

Not at all. Batman can certainly support a cinematic universe, but he doesn't need one. I'm tired of everything revolving around Batman.
