The Dark Knight Rises What do you not like about the movie?

I thought him just knowing by looking at him was the worst part of this movie..it was just bad.
That was such a bad reason.
It doesn't even state if he had ever even seen Wayne in Batman garb up close and personal before as a point of reference. Sloppy plot point.

1. No Batman too much Bruce Wayne
2. Story was too bloated and i didn't like how TDKR kept referencing past movies too much
3. Bane's voice
4. Underwhelming action

I agree with first 3, but I thought this movie had the best action. I liked movie overall, but I felt first hour or so was a bit of chore just to get to the climactic ending. The acting and plot was fine for first half, but the movie didn't feel as fun in theater as when I was watching the other 2 movies.

That was what i was thinking. I know Batman was walking around working hand in hand with the GPD in TDK, but Blake would not have been on the force then, so wouldn't have seen batman close up, heard him speak, etc.

This is by far the worst WTF moment in the whole trilogy for me.

Agreed, it was really silly. Oh look, a billionaire with a look on his face similar to mine... he must be Batman! Really?

I'm still digesting the movie and don't have a full opinion yet. But I really didn't like that Alfred basically abandoned Bruce. I understood what he was trying to do by leaving, not wanting to help Bruce kill himself, but it just felt wrong that he didn't eventually return to help in the end.

I HATED that scene! It was a total SM3 moment, for me.

I hate to say it, but a lot of this movie fell flat for me. Most of it, to be real.

If I had to choose one thing that I wasn't a fan of it'd be Bane. Don't even wanna get into it right now haha

I didnt like the Alfred leaving part either, but a lot of characters were swapping being in and out of the movie, kind of wish it was a two-parter

Quite a few things I didn't like (never thought I'd say that about a Nolan movie)

1.) No mention of what happened to the Mayor after his press box exploded

2.) The Stock Exchange scenes going from day to immediate night

3.) The time lapse from fall to winter w/out any explanation of what the cops underground have been doing to survive and what Gotham's citizens have been doing during that 3-4 month period. So frustrating the way this movie was edited

4.) Bane's voice sounding way too synthetic...especially in the prologue (comedic even lol)

I tried to do a list, but it was just too long. In short, way too much exposition and the script was borderline sloppy and just not as tight and cohesive as TDK and BB.

Also, the film tried way too hard to push the push the emotional envelope. Alfred looked like he was going to cry in almost every scene that he was in. It just wasn't organic.

I didn't like Bane and Talia's plan. The process of getting there was great but once his final plan was revealed I was like "huh?"

I felt they should have revealed Tate's true indentity earlier instead of waiting until the very end. Her betrayal had little impact on me(despite knowing the twist for months).

The final brawl between the mercs and cops was a little underwhelming.

Not enough Selina Kyle!

Also I'm torn on the ending about Bruce.

I would have liked to think that Alfred at least went over and talked to Bruce, as opposed to not saying anything as he mentions in his story earlier in the film.

I hated the reason they gave why Bane was thrown out of the LOS. Ra's kicked the man out who had basically saved his daughters life simply because Bane reminded him of the prison? The man is all f'ed up after saving your daughter and that's how you thank him..?

I just don't want to see this continuity end at all, that's my biggest disappointment.

Well he is a villain...

The switch from 35mm to 70mm and vice versa was outrageously jarring. Especially during action sequences. Or, for example, while Bane gave his Blackgate speech and Gordon/Blake were watching from the apartment. It was ridiculous throughout the film.

Wasn't there a report a few months ago that there was a cut that was almost 4 hours long? Nolan always says that there isn't any additional material but we know there is more even if it's just alternate takes.

I took myself away from here around January so I'm not sure, but I'm certain Nolan just likes saying things to be coy. He needs to have some sort of director cut to this, because as good as it was, there was a masterpiece in there somewhere that he just didn't have enough time to fully develop.

I just can't help but think the trailers seemed to promise so much more than the movie, Warner must be given credit for marketing at least!

Yea I agree. WB made this movie seem more epic than it wound up being. :csad:

Is this moment in reference to 8 years ago though? I didn't like it either and it's one of the reasons I didn't like John Blake overall in this film.

A friend of mine said that there are only two reasons why this ending of this film could bring him peace...

1). Blake simply becomes Robin, and fights alongside Bruce when he someday returns as Batman, or:

2). Blake is Batman for a month, and then one day Bruce and Selina get a package in France, and it's John Blake's head in a cowl with a note from the Joker saying "Don't forget our date with forever."

Some of the one liners kind of rubbed me the wrong way and although it makes sense Bane had to die...and I would've been pissed if Batman killed him, I wish it would've been a better ending for Bane.

Overall I did like this film, it has it's great moments...but where BB and TDK were instant classics and perfect 10's...this one felt like a 8 out of 10.

I have very few negative feelings, but off the top of my head:

  • Scarecrow/Jonathan Crane again shafted and given such a small role. I felt he had too little screentime in BB and it was a disappointment seeing him underused again in the next two movies, respectively. Scarecrow is my favorite Batman villain so to see him get the shaft the way he has is pretty irritating.
  • Catwoman disappeared for too long for some stretches and could've been better developed.
  • Batman also felt underused at times but it's forgivable in light of Bruce's character arc as well as how much we saw him as Batman in BB and TDK.
  • Bane's voice was sometimes difficult to hear.
  • Catwoman not having her cowl and whip. I got used to her cowlless look well enough but I still would've preferred it.
  • A few more references to TDK and a mention or two of The Joker would've been nice.

A list of pretty minor complaints.

Bane's voice...it's weird..it's like he's disconnected from the rest of the movie verse, his voice was edited in basically, and you can tell. I heard this was because people had a real hard time understanding his voice in the original cut through the mask, so they edited his voice and you can tell it's voiceover work done in. And thing is he's still kinda hard to understand. But 90 percent of what he says I got.

It is also a real murky film...like the feel is just totally murky and dark. It doesn't drag or anything and the film goes by fast, but The Dark Knight was like an action packed thrill ride and even though this had a more apocalyptic plot it wasn't anywhere near as action packed or a thrill ride. There was just nothing that was like holy ****.

And lastly, I think it tries too hard to be both a sequel and a wrap..what I mean is Nolan wrote this film to make it a wrap and you can tell he's trying to wrap things up, and also unlike the Dark Knight, you absolutely have to watch the Earlier films to understand the plot of this one..it's extremely intertwined with Batman Begins...it wouldn't make a good film all by itlself is what I'm trying to say. Think how much Return of the Jedi is connected to the earlier films, well this movie is like that. It would make 0 sense if you had not seen the first 2 films.

The action wasn't bad but I thought it could have been done better I really liked the chase scene when bats first appears and the first bane bat fight but the action in the climax had too much going on
