The Avengers What if Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers are hits?

That's like saying

Sorry to say this guys but Iron Man won't be a "hit" at all. If the Hulk, who is more known to non-comic people, didn't do that well, imagine how Iron Man will do.

Iron Man is more known than Thor. Notice I said Thor is the one I see as not making a "hit". On the contrary Captain America MIGHT work out since he is a bit more popular.

For some reason regular "joe" didn't like the idea of the Incredible Hulk as it showed on the box office. But for us comic gurus, well for me specially, the IH was fantastic! In the end is the overall revenue these movies will bring in to continue making movies of superheroes as what will matter.

Yeah but Iron Man wasn't as popular as Cap or certainly the Hulk outside the fanbase. It's all about the trailer.

I think Marvel wants Thor to be the next big thing. Let's hope they accomplish this!

To reiterate what another poster said previously, my hope is that it gives Marvel some leverage in regaining the rights to their non-owned film franchises (i.e. X-Men, Spider-Man, et. al.).

I really want these films to be spectacular and make lots of money. That'd be fantastic for the genre and especially Marvel Films.

Its a great thing if they are all good.

If all three are hits, as in Iron/Iron Man 2 size hits....Marvel shall begin world domination. And DC will strike back...but slowly.

DC won't strike back at all, they have no control.

Yeah, but with B3 being Nolan's last Batman film, it makes things easier for them to possibly do a Justice League film.

The funny thing, is that there doesn't need to be a buildup to JL like the Avengers. WB doesn't have to worry about continuity that much. Just an acknowledgement of other heroes like a newspaper reference and that fine for JL. All WB needs to do is keep the actors under contract.

I'll put money on it not happening. Besides, even though JL has the more famous characters in the roster, The Avengers was there first, WB is only ever going to look like ripping off the concept, even though it's not that special a concept in the first place really.

Batman and Superman don't need origins, but I honestly don't think the GA knows THAT much about the others. Ironically, Bats and Supes will be the few who DO get an origin.

As for if Thor, Cap and The Avengers are successful, I think these things will happen:

1. More solo films for Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye, possibly that SHIELD movie
2. Avengers sequels
3. Marvel will try and get Spiderman, Xmen, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Daredevil ex. back
4.Marvel will create solo films for lesser known characters
5. Marvel and Disney will create live-action shows.(Disney owns ABC I believe)
6. A Marvel Universe Theme Park will be built in Disney(much more in-depth than the current one at Universal)
7. A-list actors and A-list directors will be more interested in these films. Not going to make any guarantees they actually get involved
8. Disney Pixar will look into developing a Marvel animated film
9. DC will reboot Batman again to keep Nolan's films separate. These will be more farfetched and more comic booky than Nolan's films. Or they can avoid the reboot and just make a non-direct sequel where it is more comic booky.
10. DC will build on this new Batman franchise and create a DC Film Universe and eventually release a Justice League.

A DC Universe movie will probably spawn from Green Lantern. & I'm 100% sure Disney will build a Marvel park at DW as soon as the Universal rights run out. But the others sound good!

Why not expand from Nolan's series? Joker's not dead (I'm not saying use him in the first post Nolan Batman film though) and there are many more villains to explore. And its not that hard to expand from Nolan's Batman series to more fantastical elements. Despite everything in Nolan's series, I can still easily see and feel that Superman exists in Metropolis in the same universe as Batman.

And I don't even see more weirder villains such as Clayface and Mr. Freeze not fitting to the universe. It can be expanded into that.

It can be and I'd prefer that over another re-boot(especially when it doesn't need one), but for some reason I see them rebooting it for The Batman in the JL movie. I'd prefer them just expand Nolan's universe, but I have a feeling they'll want the Batman in the JL movie to have his own origin movie. I don't know, I hope I'm wrong. And I totally forgot about Green Lantern. lol Obviously I'm not too excited for that one::oldrazz:

It's more a question of if the separate universe thing is working well why mess with it? If the answer is to simply have a team up film then you're not doing it for the right reason. Bat's is obviously off limits, Team Nolan is already on record as saying Big Blue is on his own, and we already know the Superman references that were gonna be in GL have been omitted, me thinks WB is focusing on making the films good first and foremost and not worrying about whether things interconnect, which is the right way to go about doing things. If ever a JL is gonna happen I believe it will be a separate entity to the current and any subsequent solo films in the next few years.

I don't think WB would do that because it would just piss off fans and the GA. I can already imagine people asking "Why does Superman look different?" and "How come Marvel can get big name actors to star their films but not DC?". I just think there would be so many knocks against it and so much backlash (probably similar the cancelled JL film) that I can't see them doing a JL film seperate from continuity, in which Marvel (despite 2 actors getting replaced already) constantly boasts.

They don't need to interconnect though. The Superman reference in GL was too overt anyway. If anything newspaper references or a small mention on the news is what I'm talking about. Maybe a throwaway reference of the Daily Planet or coast city Nothing too much. They probably don't even need to do that though.

What backlash? If they state early on that JL is a separate continuity then I fail to see what backlash there will be other than some noisy bunch of fanboys crying foul because they're not getting what they think they deserve. The GA don't care, you think they're the ones crying over the Norton issue? Of coarse not, they only care about whether the film is good or not. The answer to your question "How come Marvel can get big name actors to star in their films but not DC?" is simple - what Marvel do is their own business. Besides, I'm still convinced a JL movie is years away.

I'm not complaining about Norton. I'm surprised myself that I'm not disappointed over Norton not coming back. When the Avengers trailer hits, People will wonder why Bruce Banner looks different though.I can see the parodies coming.

I definitely agree that JL film is not the thought now and shouldn't be the thought. And its not my question. I just believe that there will be people who ask that question.

I'm just saying that there for as many risks as having the same actors for JL, there also is as many risks for having a separate continuity. Having unknown actors (especially the wrong one) hurts the film's martketability and puts doubts into people's head faith about WB's commitment to a JL film. Having star actors player the role will make people wonder why they couldn't get the original actors.

To be honest, I have no problems at all with what DC is doing. They are completely focusing on getting their heroes known first.

Instead of Justice League, I just want a live-action Batman/Superman film. Can I just get that at least? :yay:

Sorry to say this guys but Thor won't be a "hit" at all. If the Hulk, who is more known to non-comic people, didn't do that well, imagine how Thor will do. Now Captain America MIGHT work only due to the fact that he is a "known" character to the casual non-comic related people. And that is a big Might!

But for the good of us all I hope that they do decent enough where they see profits. That way they will continue making more superhero movies.

And this is why hindsight is awesome. :awesome:

From what I've been hearing, Captain America is most likely going to beat Potter this weekend for #1!

Not *totally* shocking. The people going to see Potter 8 are generally the die hards. People with only a passing interest in Potter, that would wait til the second week, aren't generally 'caught up' with all the films. It's not a huge group. Still very nice though, and far from being a guarantee.

And this is why hindsight is awesome. :awesome:

Lol, indeed. That's messed up though.
